Paris is the city of dreams. If you plan to head for Paris for a study period, perhaps a little reality check is in order. But my experience is a romantic one.
I paved(铺路) my path to Paris through an exchange programme. On arrival in Paris, I was constantly reminded of the official processes I had to complete—forms to fill in, meetings to attend—the list seemed endless.
Then the real work began. Once classes were underway, I found myself volunteering to do oral presentations and assignments first rather than last. This method proved to be very helpful.
Once I had finished classes for the week, I had an ever-increasing list of museums to visit, neighbourhoods to explore, and cafés to sit in. Maybe you can read books about Paris and talk to locals and other foreigners living there. But the one thing that reading a book or talking to someone cannot do is to provide you with the experience of wandering(闲逛) Paris on foot. The people, the sounds of the city, and the colours as the seasons change, they all add to the ecstasy that I experienced in Paris as an exchange student.
After spending five months’ wandering through the charming neighbourhoods, I fell in love with the atmosphere that came out from every open door and every spoken word. There is something comforting about walking to the market each Sunday to enjoy the beautiful display of fruits, vegetables and dairy products. There is warmth in saying “Bonjour” to the passers-by.
On my last day in Paris, I confidently said “Bonjour Monsieur” as I passed the little store down the street. I guess the best part about going on exchange in Paris is falling in love with the city in your own way. And I know mine is unique and special to me—my own little pieces of Paris.
24.What does the underlined word “ecstasy” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
    A.Courage. B.Imagination.
    C.Happiness. D.Depression.
25.According to the passage, what left the author the deepest impression?
A.The friendly people he met in Paris.
B.The special culture he experienced in the city.
C.The academic achievement he made in his study.
D.The presentations and assignments he did in class.
26.Why did the author like walking to the market?
    A.Because of the romantic locals.
    B.Because of the pleasant weather.
    C.Because of the fresh vegetables.
    D.Because of the warm atmosphere.
27.What does the passage mainly tell us?
    A.An exchange student’s experience.
    B.Charming neighbourhoods.
    C.An exchange programme.
    D.A travelling experience.
    C
Processed foods like chips, sodas and frozen pizzas are full of salt, sugar and fat. Now, scientists are trying to understand if there is something else about such foods that may be bad for humans.
Scientists have already lined low-cost, packaged foods to rising obesity rates around the world. Obesity increases the risk of many health problems. Three recent studies offer more clues on how our increasingly industrialised food supply may be affecting our health.
The researchers created a system that places foods into four groups. The system says highly processed foods are made mostly of industrialised materials and additives(添加剂). Sodas, packaged cookies, instant noodles and chicken nuggets(鸡肉块) are some examples of highly processed foods. But also included are products that can seem healthy, such as morning cereals, energy bars and some kinds of yogurt.
Researchers conducted a four-week study involving 20 people. They found that people ate about 500 more calories a day when fed mostly processed foods. That is compared to when the same people were given less processed foods. The researchers permitted the 20 participants to eat as much or as little as they wanted. They were taken to a medical centre so their health and behaviour could be observed. In another study, researchers in France found people who ate more processed foods were more likely to have heart disease. A similar study in Spain linked eating more processed foods to a higher risk of death in general.
When fed less processed foods, people in the study produced more of a hormone that controls hunger, and less of a hormone that causes hunger. The reason for the reaction is not clear. The scientists also found that people ate processed foods more quickly. Kevin Hall is one of the researchers who led the study. He said that processed foods were usually “softer and easier to chew and swallow”. Hall noted the source of nutrients might make a difference. For example, fiber from fruit and vegetables may be better for making people feel full than fiber added to packaged foods such as energy bars and yogurt.
Avoiding processed foods can be hard, especially for people with limited time and money. Processed foods can also take many forms. In addition, companies continually reengineer products to make them seem healthier. The newest studies may provide more reasons to avoid processed foods. But, they also call attention to the difficulty of coming up with ways to do that.
28.What kind of food do energy bars belong to?
    A.Fairly health-friendly foods.
    B.Especially beneficial foods.
    C.Relatively high-cost foods.
    D.Highly processed foods.
29.What can we know about eating more processed foods in paragraph 4?
A.It does harm to people potentially.
B.It can often result in death.
C.It makes people get less calories.
D.It makes little difference to people’s health.
30.What is more likely to make people feel full?
    A.Fiber added to packaged foods.
    B.Fiber from fruit and vegetables.
C.Highly processed foods like instant noodles.
D.Foods made mostly of industrial materials and additives.
31.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
    A.Different Kinds of Processed Foods
    B.Recent Studies on Processed Foods
    C.How Bad Processed Foods Are
D.Advantages and Disadvantages of Processed Foods

Auckland is New Zealand’s largest urban area with a population of just over a million. It is not the capital, although it was at one time, until the capital was moved to Wellington. Auckland is the centre of commerce and industry, and is perhaps the most energetic, prosperous and multicultural city in New Zealand.
The city’s landscape is decided by volcanos, the twin harbours, bays, beaches and islands. Its nickname “the city of sails” is very suitable. Auckland has more boats for each person than anywhere else in the world.
Auckland has many volcanos, many of which currently afford great views of the city. And Auckland’s shiny waters seem to attract people from every point. It is a water-lovers’ best place, with some of the best beaches, for swimming, diving, fishing, sailing, windsurfing and water sports in the country.
Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand. It is also the cultural, administrative and political centre of the country. Two aspects of the city that will immediately strike any visitor are the harbour and hilly landscape. Everywhere you go, the sounds and the smell of the ocean hang in the air, and green hills and valleys wrap you in a bear hug. At night, Wellington offers a spectacular, shimmering cityscape that is unlike almost anywhere else in the world. Even after seeing it for a hundred times, it still takes your breath away.
Wellington is a scenic, windy and diverse place. It has some of the best museums, art galleries, restaurants and coffee houses in the country. It is the storehouse for the nation’s historic, cultural and artistic treasures. Being the first place where European settlers arrived, it also boasts lots of historic streets and buildings.
Wellington plays host to an excellent festival of the arts every two years.

    第二节(共5小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分)
    阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Imagine that you are in a remote village somewhere with no medical clinic. 36 Once the doctors get to you, they examine you and take blood samples, but they won’t be able to help you until they take the samples back to the hospital to find out what is wrong. 37 Thanks to engineer Andy Ozcan, many people may never be in this situation. He has invented an app that turns your mobile phone into a diagnostic(诊断的) tool.
Ozcan’s invention is important because it is very accurate and easy to use. In many remote places, even if doctors have microscopes and other instruments to help them make diagnoses, there may still be other problems. Many doctors, for example, don’t have enough training to accurately interpret what they see. 38 With Ozcan’s mobile phone app, health workers can take a special photo of a blood sample and send it to a central computer at a hospital. The computer will then automatically interpret the photo and send a diagnosis back in a few minutes.
39 His technology only requires a mobile phone and an Internet connection. As more than four billion people already have cell phones, the cost of establishing the diagnostic system is fairly low.
By inventing a medical tool that uses existing technology, Ozcan has developed a medical tool that is both practical and economical. Therefore, it can be applied effectively almost anywhere. 40
A.As a result, they may diagnose illnesses incorrectly.
B.People are trying to reduce the cost of this new medical tool.
C.This tool has become much more popular all around the world.
D.Another reason why Ozcan’s invention is important is that it is inexpensive.
E.Ozcan’s simple and effective tool might just save millions of lives around the world.
F.Even though you may only have a simple infection, you might die because of the delay.
G.You become very sick and must wait days until a mobile medical unit arrives to help.

Alexis, a teenage girl, sat quietly in the passenger seat of her father’s car. She lazily scanned the landscape for wildlife. Then a deer came into view about 200 yards in front of them.“Dad, there’s a deer there!” Alexis said.
As the car moved closer, Alexis saw that the deer’s head was bent towards the ground. Then she heard a scream. Alexis realised the deer was attacking a person. Sue, a 44-year-old mother, had been out for her morning run. The deer followed her and edged closer.“I know I am in trouble,” Sue said. She went to pick up a stick for self-defense, and the deer charged. It lifted her with its antlers(鹿角) and threw her into the air. Sue could feel blood flowing down her leg. Within seconds, the deer had pushed her off the road.
Before Alexis and her father pulled up, the deer was throwing Sue like a doll. Alexis saw the woman’s terrified eyes, and asked her father to stop the car. The teenager jumped quickly out of the car and ran towards the deer.“I am kicking it to get its attention,” Alexis said. Then her father, who had followed his daughter, pushed the deer away from the woman.
Alexis helped Sue get into the car, and then applied a piece of cloth to Sue’s injured leg. Suddenly

    (Text 2)
W: Excuse me. Here’s a 10-dollar bill. Give me two tickets for tonight’s show please.
M: Sure. Two tickets and $1.60 change.
    (Text 3)
M: It was clear just half an hour ago. What’s the matter with the weather?
W: Don’t worry. It will stop pouring in a moment. The radio says it will be cloudy tonight.
M: The weather here is really unusual.
    (Text 4)
M: What can I do for you, madam?
W: Yes. I’d like to cash this check.
M: OK, please write your account number and sign your name on the back of the check.
    (Text 5)
M: Good morning! How are you feeling today, Jane? Did you have a good night’s rest?
W: Yes, thank you. I’m feeling much better.
M: Our boss, Mr Whiteman, sends his best regards.
    W: Thanks.
    (Text 6)
    W: I hear you’re going home, aren’t you?
M: Yes. I wanted to go on Tuesday, but I failed to get a ticket for that day. The earliest possible ticket is for Saturday.
    W: The day after tomorrow?
    M: Yes.
W: Why are you in such a hurry? You must have something urgent, don’t you?
M: My mother is ill. She is now in hospital.
W: I’m sorry to hear that. How did you get the news?
M: My sister called me this morning. And my father asked me to go back.
W: Oh, I see. Then how long are you going to stay at home?
M: Perhaps three or four days.
    (Text 7)
W: Fred, how is your knee today? Is it still giving you trouble?
M: No, it feels a lot better today.
W: Great. But why don’t you take it easy today? Maybe just practice throwing. Don’t do any running.
M: OK. Do you have any news about Michigan and what we can expect in Saturday’s game?
W: Yes, I have some films showing Michigan in the last three games. They’re in my office. If you want to see them after practice, you can get them.
M: Oh, that would be great. I’d like to see what we’re up against.
W: Michigan has a strong team. We’re in for a tough one. They’re one of the top football teams in the country now since they beat Iowa last weekend. Come to think of it, why don’t you go ahead and check out the game films right now? And just rest that knee this afternoon. I want you to be well in three days.
M: All right, I’ll be back tomorrow afternoon for full practice.
    (Text 8)

M: Only a hundred and seventy dollars.
W: OK, I’ll take it. And I’d like the blue jacket on the right. How much is it?
M: It’s two hundred and twenty dollars.
    W: Oh, it’s too expensive, I don’t want it.
    (Text 9)

W: OK. Uh, let me see, there are several part-time jobs for you to choose. Cleaner in a business building, teacher of a middle school student, salesman in No.1 Market and guide in a zoo. Which one do you prefer?

W: Of course. The Centre Zoo is employing students to work in vacations. The pay is 13 pounds a day.
M: 13 pounds a day? It is good. How many days do I have to work per week?
W: You need to work from 5:00 p.m.to 9:30 p.m.on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. And you have to work from 9:00 a.m.to 6:30 p.m.on Saturday and Sunday.
    M: It sounds acceptable.
W: By the way, are you planning to work during the whole vacation?
    M: Yes.
W: Good. Another question, are you interested in continuing to do the job next term?
M: No, I’m afraid I won’t take any job next term, for I need to concentrate on my schoolwork.
    (Text 10)
W:Hello, everyone! May I have your attention, please? I have an announcement to make. As you know, we have twenty girls and fifteen boys from America, England, Canada and France visiting our school. In order to help them have a good time here, the Students’ Union has decided to organise a European music week. It will be held during the last week of September. Now it is the beginning of September, and we still have more than twenty days to prepare. You can sing pop songs and play musical instruments, so you don’t forget to bring along your musical instruments if you have any. There will also be an interesting music contest. During the competition, the visiting students will sing part of a song and you will be required to guess where it comes from. Please come to the school hall to sign up before September 15 if you want to take part in the activities. The music week will be held in the garden. I hope you all will have a great time. That’s all! Thank you.

    写作
    第一节
Mr Zhang, aged 50, is my favourite English teacher. He is so knowledgeable, humorous and responsible that I respect and love him so much.
Honestly speaking, his great patience and assistance have a great impact on me. It is Mr Zhang who made me realise the importance of learning English well. Had it not been for his guidance and encouragement, I couldn’t have won first prize in the English Contest. Without his aid, I wouldn’t have boosted my integrated skills in English. I’ll definitely remember his kindness and help forever.
Mr Zhang is a very respectable teacher indeed! I do thank him for what he did for me.
    第二节
Alexis helped Sue get into the car, and then applied a piece of cloth to Sue’s injured leg. Suddenly she heard her father shout loudly. He had been knocked to the ground. Alexis took hold of a hammer from the car and ran to where her father lay on his back. She beat the deer’s head and neck, but the blows didn’t scare it away.“I am losing faith,” she said. “More strikes, Alexis,” said her father,“You can do it.”Turning the hammer around, Alexis closed her eyes and beat the deer’s neck with all her strength. When she opened her eyes, the deer was running away. Alexis got into the car and sped towards the nearest hospital.
After Sue was treated, she tearfully thanked Alexis’ rescue.“You expect a teenage girl to get on her phone and call for help,” she said,“not to beat up a deer.” Alexis’ father was also proud of his daughter, for she was so brave.
