Every bject tells a stry. Even the mst rdinary bjects can present t us pwerful images. Smetimes it is the rdinary nature f these bjects that actually (21)________(make) them s extrardinary. Such is the case with an ld leather she in a museum in Alaska. At first glance it des nt lk like much. It is a wman's she f a style ppular in the 1890s. But what is unique(独特的) abut this she is (22)________ it was fund. It was discvered n the Checkut Pass, the famus trail used by the peple seeking gld in Alaska. Wh it belnged t r why it was left there (23)________ (be) nt knwn. Was it perhaps drpped by accident as the wman climbed up the 1500 stairs carved utface? Or did she thrw away gds that she didn't need in rder t travel (24)________(light)?
Over 100, 000 peple with "gld fever" made this trip hping t becme millinaires. Few f them understd that n their way they wuld have t crss a harsh wildness. Unprepared fr such a dangerus jurney, many died f starvatin and expsure (25)________ the cld weather.
The Canadian gvernment finally started requiring the gld seekers t bring ne tn f supplies with them. This was thught t be enugh fr a persn t survive fr ne year. They wuld carry their supplies in backpacks(背包) each (26)________ (weigh) up t fifty punds; it usually tk at least 40 trips t get everything t the tp and ver the pass. Whever drpped the she must (27)________ (be) a brave and determined wman. Perhaps she was successful and made (28)________ t Alaska. Perhaps she had t turn back in defeat. N ne will ever knw fr sure, but what we d knw is that she tk part in ne f the greatest adventures in the 19th century.
    Sectin B
Directins: Cmplete the fllwing passage by using the wrds in the bx. Each wrd can nly be used nce. Nte that there is ne wrd mre than yu need.
SCIENTISTS study it. An increasing number f self-help bks tell us the way t find it. In fact, ___29___ happiness has been called the ultimate gal in life by cuntless talks, TV shws and newspaper and magazine clumns. Hwever, happiness, as it was befre, is still hard t find.
US psychlgist Ed Diener, authr f Happiness: Unlcking the Mysteries f Psychlgical Wealth, may have the answer:“a cmbinatin f life satisfactin and having mre psitive than negative emtins”. This may sund straightfrward (易懂的) enugh, but it still desn’t explain what can ___30___ peple’s happiness. And as The Washingtn Pst ___31___ in an article last mnth, creating a definitin f happiness that is true fr peple arund the wrld can seem as difficult as being happy.
Fr example, wh is happier: smene wh has enugh mney t buy a new mbile phne r smene wh has a family dinner after years away frm hme?
Nevertheless, as many surveys suggest, ne f the mst imprtant parts f happiness is wealth. The UN’s Wrld Happiness Reprt 2015 shws that cuntries with the highest levels f happiness are develped nes, with Switzerland, Iceland and Denmark ___32___ up the tp three. But n the ther hand, Bhutan, ne f the prest cuntries in the wrld, was ___33___ as the happiest cuntry in Asia and the eighth happiest in the wrld in research by Business Week in 2012.
Perhaps the biggest prblem is hw the idea f “happiness” varies in ___34___ cultures and languages.
As The Washingtn Pst nted, the wrd “happy” can refer t different things in English. It might mean a brief md yu feel when smene surprises yu with a gift r yu think f friends and family. Or it culd refer t ___35___ with yur life. But nt all languages refer t happiness the same way. In Danish, fr example, happiness is ften translated as “lykke”, a term that can describe everyday well-being that might cme frm a nice cup f cffee r a slice f bread with cheese.
In Chinese, the wrd fr happiness is xingfu, which is used t describe a gd life r a ___36___ that makes peple feel free frm wrry. Fr a gd md, hwever, kuaile is used mre ften.
Anther difference in the ___37___ f happiness, as The Washingtn Pst put it, is that Western cuntries tend t have quite an “individualistic view f human life”. In China and many ther Asian cuntries, scial relatinships, with family in ___38___, are ne f the mst imprtant factrs in a persn’s well-being.
S, are yu happy? And what makes yu happy?

The standard research reprt, regardless f the field r the intended reader, cntains fur majr sectins:

There shuld be an explanatin f the ___40__-- scial, ecnmic, medical, psychlgical, educatinal, etc. -- f the questin; ___41___, why the investigatin was wrth cnducting. Thus, we must explain that the questin is thught t have significant relevance t certain prblems and might ___42__ sme srt f regulatins n them. As a part, a review f past researches is recmmended, which cnsists f summaries f the __43____f previus researchers with sme assessment f the value t yur recent research.
Prcedures Sectin. This sectin___44___ , with as much data as pssible, exactly hw the study was carried ut. It usually includes descriptin f any necessary equipment, hw the subjects were selected, hw many ___45___were made and when, what statistical technique was used t ____46___ the findings, etc. The gal f this sectin is t allw the reader t red the experiment if such were desired t ___47___yur findings.
___48___ Sectin. The third sectin, perhaps the mst imprtant, is the presentatin f what is btained frm the investigatin. The basic rule in this sectin is t give all the data relative t the research questin __49___ asked. If the experiments undertaken fail t prve anything, r if the data was inadequate r ___50____expectatins, the reprt shuld be hnestly written and as cmplete as pssible, just as it wuld be if the hypthesis(假设) were ttally prven by the research.
Discussin Sectin. The final required sectin f a research reprt is a discussin f the results btained and a statement f any cnclusins drawn frm them. Of primary imprtance is the cnclusin fr future decisin making.__51____, the discussin sectin must assess the research results fully: were they validly btained, are they cmplete r limited, are they ___52__ ver a wide range f circumstances? The discussin sectin shuld als pint ut what questin remain___53___ and perhaps suggest directins fr further research.

Make sure yu check in with yur ppnents s that they are nt carrying the emtin f the battles beynd the battlefield. Break the tensin with smiles and humr t reinfrce the idea that this is friendly discurse and that all are wrking tward a cmmn gal.
Reward all thse invlved in the debate sufficiently when the gals are reached. Let yur sparring partners (拳击陪练) knw hw much yu appreciate their cntributin. The mre they feel appreciated, the mre they’ll be willing t get int the ring next time.

"There is ne and nly ne scial respnsibility f business" wrte Miltn Friedman, a Nbel Prize-winning ecnmist "That is, t use its resurces and engage in activities designed t increase its prfits." But even if yu accept Friedman's premise and regard crprate scial respnsibility(CSR) plicies as a waste f sharehlders's mney, things may nt be abslutely clear-act. New research suggests that CSR may create mnetary value fr cmpanies at least when they are prsecuted fr crruptin.
The largest firms in America and Britain tgether spend mre than $15 billin a year n CSR, accrding t an estimate by EPG, a cnsulting firm. This culd add value t their businesses in three ways. First, cnsumers may take CSR spending as a "signal" that a cmpany's prducts are f high quality. Secnd, custmers may be willing t buy a cmpany's prducts as an indirect may t dnate t the gd causes it helps. And third, thrugh a mre diffuse "hal effect" whereby its gd deeds earn it greater cnsideratin frm cnsumers and thers.
Previus studies n CSR have had truble differentiating these effects because cnsumers can be affected by all three. A recent study attempts t separate them by lking at bribery prsecutins under American's Freign Crrupt Practices Act(FCPA).It argues that since prsecutrs d nt cnsume a cmpany's prducts as part f their investigatins, they culd be influenced nly by the hal effect.
The study fund that, amng prsecuted firms, thse with the mst cmprehensive CSR prgrammes tended t get mre lenient penalties. Their analysis ruled ut the pssibility that it was firm's plitical influence, rather than their CSR stand, that accunted fr the leniency: Cmpanies that cntributed mre t plitical campaigns did nt receive lwer fines.
In all, the study cncludes that whereas prsecutrs shuld nly evaluate a case based n its merits, they d seem t be influenced by a cmpany's recrd in CSR. "We estimate that either eliminating a substantial labur-rights cncern, such as child labur, r increasing crprate giving by abut20% result in fines that generally are 40% lwer than the typical punishment fr bribing freign fficials." says ne researcher.
Researchers admit that their study des nt answer the questin at hw much businesses ught t spend n CSR. Nr des it reveal hw much cmpanies are banking n the hal effect, rather than the ther pssible benefits, when they cmpanies get int truble with the law, evidence f gd character can win them a less cstly punishment.
61.The authr views Miltn Friedman's statement abut CSR with_________.
    uncertainty B. skepticismC. apprval D.tlerance
    62.Accrding t Paragraph 2, CSR helps a cmpany by_________.
guarding it against malpractices B. prtecting it frm cnsumers
    C. winning trust frm cnsumers. D. raising the quality f its prducts
    63.The expressin "mre lenient"(line 2,Para.4)is clsest in meaning t __________.
less cntrversial B. mre lasting C. mre effective D.less severe
    64.When prsecutrs evaluate a case, a cmpany's CSR recrd________.
    A. cmes acrss as reliable evidence
    B. has an impact n their decisin
    C. increases the chance f being penalized
    D. cnstitutes part f the investigatin

    D. It has brught much benefit t the banking industry
    Sectin C
Directins: Read the fllwing passage carefully. Fill in each blank with a prper sentence given in the bx. Each sentence can be used nly nce. Nte that there are tw mre sentences than yu need.
Mst peple say “I’m srry” many times a day fr a hst f trivial affrnts — accidentally bumping int smene r failing t hld pen a dr. These aplgies are easy and usually readily accepted, ften with a respnse like, “N prblem.” Hwever, when “I’m srry” are the wrds needed t right truly hurtful wrds, acts r inactin, they can be the hardest nes t say. ________66________.
_______67_________. After learning that a neighbr wh had assaulted me verbally was angry abut an versight I was nt aware I had cmmitted, I wrte a letter in the hpe f ending the hstility. Withut ffering any excuses, I aplgized fr my vernight in etiquette and respect. I said I was nt asking fr r expecting frgiveness. Then I delivered the letter with a jar f my hmemade jam. Expecting nthing in return, I was greatly relieved when my drbell rang and the neighbr thanked me warmly fr what I had said and dne.
Accrding t psychlgist Harriet Lerner, aplgies fllwed by ratinalizatins are “never satisfying” and can even be harmful. When “but” is tagged nt an aplgy, it’s an excuse that cunters the sincerity f the riginal message. ________68__________,”she wrte in her new bk Why Wn’t Yu Aplgize?
Nr shuld a request fr frgiveness be part f an aplgy. The ffended party may accept a sincere aplgy but still be unready t frgive the mistake. Frgiveness, shuld it cme, may depend n a demnstratin ging frward that ffense will nt be repeated.
_________69_________. Histry can be used as an explanatin, nt an excuse. It shuld invlve a cnversatin that allws the hurt party t express anger and pain if an aplgy, hwever sincere, is t heal a brken cnnectin,” Lerner said.
“I’m srry” are the tw mst healing wrds in the English language. Knwing hw t say “I’m srry” is an ability t take a clear lk at hw ur behavir affects thers and t assume respnsibility fr acting at anther persn’s expense.
    IV. Summary Writing
Directins: Read the fllwing passage. Summarize the main idea and the main pint(s) f the passage in n mre than 60 wrds. Use yur wn wrds as far as pssible.
I used t jke that I spke French like a 3-year-ld. Until I met a French 3-year-ld and culdn’t keep the cnversatin. This was after a year f intense study, including at least tw hurs a day with self-instructin sftware and weekend classes, fllwed by tw weeks f an immersin prgram at ne f the tp language schls in France.
My failure was in fact quite unremarkable. Despit advertising claims, learning a freign language is a challenging task fr any adult. In the end, thugh, it turns ut that spending a year “nt learning” French may have been the best things I culd have dne fr my 57-year-ld brain.
In the last few years. I was unable t hld a list f fur grcery items in my mind. S t reassure myself that nthing was wrng, I tk a cgnitive assessment just befre tackling French. The result were anything but reassuring: I scred belw average fr my age grup in nearly all f the categries, especailly n the cmpsite memry test and the visual memry test.
After a year f struggling with the language, I retk cgnitive assessment, and the results shcked me. My scres had imprved, placing me abve average in 7 f 10 categries, and average in the ther three. Studying a language had been like drinking frm a mental funtain f yuth.

When it cmes t the different studying attitude between China and America, everyne has his wn preference. Just as the picture 1 and picture 2 vividly indicate, the studying pattern varies greatly.
T begin with, defining a tp student is cmpletely different. Cmpared with China, whse criteria f a tp student is nthing but gd grades and bedience, a tp student in America includes mre requirements in extra-curricular activities, such as a captain f basketball team, a science maniac and an artistic yuth. As fr picture 2, mst Chinese students spend mst f their time in required curses and the rest time in extra activities, the cnsequence f which is that they create cuntless bkwrms instead f quick minds. While in America, students spend equal time in requires curses, ptinal curses and club activities, which is f great benefit t students’ all-arund develpment. It’s high time that ur cuntry shuld give it a secnd thught t educatin refrm. What ur cuntry need is a man wh has his wn character.
T sum up, there’s n denying that each educatin system enjys his wn benefits, nevertheless, I’m mre inclined t the America educatin system.A. argued B. cntent C. determine D. diverse E. particular
    F. identified G. awareness H. pursuing I. persuasin J. circumstance K. making
I learned that a prly wrded aplgy can result in lasting anger.
Righting a wrng can be especially challenging when it invlves family members, wh may be inclined t cite histry as an excuse fr hurtful behavir.
I suggest aplgizing fr yur wn part in the incident, hwever small it may be.
I recently discvered that a sincere aplgy can be a pwerful medicine with surprising value fr the giver as well as he recipient.
The best aplgies are shrt and dn’t include explanatins that can und them
And even when an aplgy is ffered with the best f intentins, it can be seriusly undermined by the way in which it is wrded
