GoNoodle is an online resource designed to encourage physical activity among children. The website offers a
wide selection of videos, games, and activities to get children moving inside or outside the classroom. The videos have a duration of anywhere between five to ten minutes. Young Ocean Explorers
Young Ocean Explorers is an online resource that focuses on environmental education and marine conservation. The website provides a wide variety of high-quality videos that teach children about marine life’s beauty and diversity. The website also tackles serious environmental issues like marine life endangerment, water pollution, overfishing, and other marine-related issues head-on. There’s also plenty of documentation on environmentalists doing what they can to save the environment.
DeltaMath
DeltaMath is an online math program designed to help teachers create math problems for exams and practice tests. The website features over 1,200 different topics. Each topic consists of hundreds of randomly generated

In August, Jason M. Allen’s piece “Theatre D’opéra Spatial” — which he created with Al image generator Midjourney — won first place in the emerging artist division’s “digital arts photography” category at the Colorado
State Fair Fine Arts Competition. The definition for the category states that digital art refers to works that use
“digital technology as part of the creative process”.
Allen’s award-winning image has led to debates about what, exactly, it means to be an artist and whether AI
can truly make art. “It felt bad for the exact same reason we don’t let robots participate in the Olympics,” one Twitter user wrote. “This is the literal definition of ‘pressed a few buttons to make a digital art piece’,” another tweeted.
Yet while Allen didn’t use a paintbrush, there was plenty of work involved, he said. First, he played around
with phrasing that led Midjourney to generate images of women in elegant dresses and space helmets, in an attempt
to mix Victorian-style costuming with space themes. Over time, with many slight changes to his written prompt (提 示符), he created 900 different versions of what led to his final image. Then he improved its resolution through
Gigapixel AI and finally had the images printed.
Allen is glad the debate over whether AI can be used to make art is attracting so much attention. “Rather than hating on the technology, we need to recognize that it’s a powerful tool and use it for good so we can all move forward,” Allen said.
Cal Duran, one of the judges for the competition, said that while Allen’s piece included a mention of AI, he
didn’t realize that when judging it. Still, he sticks by his decision to award it first place. “I think the AI technology may give more opportunities to people who may not find themselves artists in the conventional way,” he said.
24.Why has Jason’s work led to debates?
A.It was a copy of a photograph.
试卷第2页,共10 页
B.He challenged the older artists.
C.It was created with the help of AI.
D.He broke the rule of the competition.
25.What can best describe Allen’s creating process?
A.Cooperative.
B.Energy-consuming.
C.Straightforward.
D.Imagination-lacking.
26.What can we learn about AI from the last paragraph?
A.It is a double-edged sword.
B.It attracts conventional artists.
C.It strikes art judges as no surprise.
D.It may open a new world to artists.
27.What is the text mainly about?
A.A trend to be AI artists.
B.An AI-generated art contest.
C.Responses to a winning AI artwork.
D.Curiosity about an image generator.

There was a time when parents raised their children without relying on expert advice. In those days aunts and grandmothers were available to help. But during most of this century families have been increasingly separated from their extended families. Because child rearing seems to be a risky experiment, many parents have turned to experts. Unfortunately, that expert advice has been interpreted in the context of social trends and changed into child rearing fashions that later have been cast aside along with the reputations of some unreal experts whose names have been associated with those child rearing eras.
Early in this century, John Broadus Watson warned parents against spoiling their children with unnecessary
displays of affection and recommended placing regular habits on them in order to instill self-discipline. The ideas of Sigmund Freud led the next era toward reasoning with children to help them become insightful individuals, capable of enjoying leisure as well as work. After World War Ⅱ, permissiveness (宽容) with children was inferred from the writings of Dr. Benjamin Spock, who enjoined parents to trust their intuitions (直觉) as they tried to meet
their children’s needs.
Now we can choose from a variety of experts. On the “conservative” side are those who encourage firmness
and “tough love” with children. On the “liberal” side are those who minimize confrontation (冲突) and stress negotiating with children.
Now parenthood has almost become professionalized so that many parents seek “the best way” to raise their
children. Child rearing no longer is something that can be done by tradition, or common sense. There is a “right way” to put a child to bed, to leave a child with a sitter, to get a child started in school, and to have a friend over. Because being a parent is a career, like any career the harder we work at it the more we gain. The result is the
general feeling that we cannot do enough for our children. Certainly we should raise our children better than we
were raised.
28.What can be inferred from Paragraph 1?
A.Traditional child rearing wastes much money.
B.Parents are easy to be misled in child rearing.
C.Family members are major roles in child rearing.
D.Parents want to have their way of raising children.
29.What’s the point of the “conservative” side?
A.Children should have more free space.
B.Parents should treat children with equality.
C.Parents should become strict with children.
D.Parents should be careful to avoid conflicts.
30.What’s the author’s attitude towards present parenting?
A.Intolerant. B.Doubtful.
C.Unclear. D.Favorable.
31.What is the suitable title for the passage?
A.The Road to Creative Parenting B.The Challenge to Bringing Up Kids
C.The Best Way to Be Clever Parents D.The Significance of Parents’ Companion
D
“Does my smile look big in this?” Future fitting-room mirrors in clothing stores could subtly adjust your reflection to make you look—and hence feel—happier, encouraging you to like what you see.
That’s the idea behind the Emotion Evoking System developed by Shigeo Yoshida and colleagues at the
University of Tokyo in Japan. The system can manipulate, or in other words, control your emotions and personal preferences by presenting you with an image of your own smiling or frowning face.
The principle that physiological changes can drive emotional ones—that laughter comes before happiness,
rather than the other way around—is a well-established idea.
The researchers wanted to see if this idea could be used to build a computer system that manipulates how you feel. The system works by presenting the user with a web-camera image of his or her face—as if they were looking in a mirror. The image is then subtly altered with software, turning the corners of the mouth up or down and changing the area around the eyes, so that the person appears to smile or frown.
Without telling them the aim of the study, the team recruited 21 volunteers and asked them to sit in front of the
screen while performing an unrelated task. When the task was complete, the participants rated how they felt. When the faces on screen appeared to smile, people reported that they felt happier. On the other hand, when the image was given a sad expression, they reported feeling less happy.
Yoshida and his colleagues tested whether manipulating the volunteers’ emotional state would influence their
preferences. Each person was given a scarf to wear and again presented with the altered webcam image. The volunteers that saw themselves smiling while wearing the scarf were more likely to report that they liked it, and those that saw themselves not smiling were less likely.
The system could be used to manipulate consumers’ impressions of products, said the researchers. For
example, mirrors in clothing-store fitting rooms could be replaced with screens showing altered reflections. They also suggest people may be more likely to find clothes attractive if they see themselves looking happy while trying them on.
“It’s certainly an interesting area,” says Chris Creed at the University of Birmingham, UK. But he notes that
using such technology in a shop would be harder than in the lab, because people will use a wide range of expressions. “Attempting to make slight differences to these and ensuring that the reflected image looks believable would be much more challenging,” he says.
Of course, there are also important moral questions surrounding such subtly manipulative technology. “You
could argue that if it makes people happy, what harm is it doing?” says Creed. “But I can imagine that many people may feel manipulated, uncomfortable and cheated if they found out.”
32.What’s the main purpose of the Emotion Evoking System?
A.To see whether laughter comes before happiness.
B.To see whether one’s facial expressions can be altered.
试卷第5页,共10 页
C.To see whether one’s feeling can be unconsciously affected.
D.To replace the mirrors in future clothing-store fitting rooms.
33.What can we learn about the web-camera image in the study?
A.It gave the volunteers a false image.
B.It attempted to make the volunteers feel happier.
C.It recorded the volunteers’ performance in the task.
D.It beautified the volunteers’ appearance in the mirror.
34.What does Creed mention as a limitation of the technology?
A.It only works in clothing stores.
B.It only makes subtle changes to people’s expressions.
C.It only changes the areas around the mouth and the eyes.
D.It only deals with a limited number of facial expressions.
35.What does Creed’s comment on the moral issues with this technology imply?
A.Nothing is more important than happiness.
B.Technology is unable to manipulate people.
C.People should neglect the harm of the technology.
D.People should have the right to make decisions independently.

The human personality is a rather complex and bewildering thing to study. In order to gain a better understanding of the subject, people have attempted to find increasingly reliable ways to measure and classify personalities. _____36_____
Personality tests pose a series of questions or ambiguous images that are meant to help assess the test taker’s
personality. Once completed, the collected answers will indicate what “type” of personality the test taker has.
_____37_____ They’re used to assess theories, evaluate the effectiveness of therapies, diagnose psychological problems, examine personality changes, and even screen job candidates. Personality testing has become a multibillion-dollar industry, and it is used by individuals, schools corporations, and even government agencies around the globe.
The majority of the tests that are used by experts today are based on the “Big Five” personality model. This
theory suggests that the human personality can be measured across five broad dimensions: extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to change. _____38_____ Some even break these dimensions further into smaller “subtraits” or divide the traits differently.
Essentially, the personality tests we use today fall into two categories: self-report inventories and projective
tests. The first category typically involves having the test subject read a number of multiple-choice questions or statements and then rating how well the described qualities or characteristics apply to them. The biggest advantage of self-report inventories is that they are standardized and use established norms(准则). _____39_____
The second category involves presenting the test subject with ambiguous scenes, objects, or scenarios(设想)
and then asking them to give their interpretations of the test items. These descriptions are then used to assess the individual’s unconscious fears, desires, and challenges. This type of personality test is usually used in psychotherapy settings, where it allows therapists to gather a great deal of information about their clients in a relatively short amount of time. _____40_____ Different people may provide different interpretations of the responses given.
A.However, its subjective nature can be a problem.
B.Nowadays, these tests are conducted for a wide variety of purposes.
C.Personality tests are likely to become a more useful tool for employers.
D.These eventually gave rise to the modern personality tests that we use today.
E.Therefore, they’re easy to carry out and tend to have much higher reliability and validity.
F.Some people have high levels of openness to experience or score high in conscientiousness.
G.Some tests refer to these five dimensions by different labels or focus on one of them more than the others.

As a young boy, I was carefree. Every vacation I looked forward to two things—seeing my grandpa and hearing his wonderful stories. My grandpa was a very good storyteller. He had worked various odd jobs when he was young and wove his adventures and misadventures into fantastic tales. These wonderful tales colored my

childhood.
As I grew up, I had to admit that Grandpa’s stories went on a little long, even a little boring and gradually lost their magic. However, not wanting to upset him, my brother and I would sometimes take turns sitting in the living room, listening to grandpa tell his stories.
When my grandpa was approaching 91, he suffered from serious memory-loss. It was kind of what doctors
called dementia (痴呆), probably the earliest stage of Alzheimer’s disease. Following the doctor’s directions, we moved him into a Sunrise Assisted Living Community, where he could get a better care. After that, grandpa hardly came to our house.
One weekend before my grandpa’s birthday, I came to visit him. Seeing grandpa sitting in his armchair, dull-looking, I was consumed with mixed feelings. I wheeled grandpa to the sunshine in the courtyard, talking to him. He couldn’t express himself clearly and spoke in short bursts, but I listened to him patiently and carefully just as I used to be a little boy.
It was then that I noticed a shadow box with some old and yellowish photos in it. I picked one up, in which my
brother, several boys in our neighborhood, and I were playing basketball with grandpa cheering us on twenty years before. My mind flashed back to those beautiful memories. Back then, Grandpa was in good physical condition and we were all wearing basketball jerseys, playing and laughing with abandon. I presented the photo to my grandpa, pointing at each member and reminding him of their names. Incredibly, grandpa could speak out the name of every player. I even caught a soft light in grandpa’s eyes and a smile on his lips.
