Wang Shuang was just five when her parents divorced, dropped her at her uncle’s and left. Football, as it often is, became an escape.
At seven, she was spotted by coach Xu Yilong, who found Wang quick in her playful behavior. As the only girl in the boys’ team, Wang’s performances were impressive, earning her the nickname “Iron Girl”. And soon, she sensed the sport’s power. Football allowed her to “release herself” and realize “whatever happens, football never leaves you alone”.
However, life was never smooth sailing. The constant jibes (嘲讽) from some people, who always tried to push her down and destroy her hopes, affected her so deeply that she lost confidence. “They were saying I had no talent at all. Gradually, I felt really so,” Wang once wrote. But never did she stop playing. When she was called up at the age of 17, Wang thought, “Me? Are you sure?” When a world-famous club wanted to sign her, she was excited that an excellent coach thought she was good. It was only then that she felt confident in her abilities. “I felt recognized. Perhaps I had a bit of talent after all.”
Not any “bit of talent”; the genius is praised as China’s once-in-a-generation player.
China is a pioneer of women’s football in Asia and has won the continental championship nine times, including seven straight titles between 1986 and 1999. That was their golden age. Gradually, though, the dynasty declined (衰退). It is hoped that Wang will inspire the women’s football of the country to its former height.
Coaches are almost always hesitant to speak about individual players. But when coach Shui Qingxia was asked about Wang before the match against Vietnam, she couldn’t stop mentioning her influence on the team. Unfailingly performing on the big stage, Wang did not let her team down. When they lacked a quality ball, she delivered two high assists that finally led her team into the quarterfinal(四分之一决赛).
“Nobody knows how hard it was,” declared Wang after the match. “We overcame difficulties. We also showed our strong spiritual power. I am proud of my team. ”
    1. What can we infer about Wang from the second paragraph?
    A. She earned a living on her own.
    B. She was released from the team.
    C. She was laughed at by the boys.
    D. She found a sense of belonging.
    2. How did Wang regain faith in her abilities?
    A. By winning recognition.
    B. By obtaining inspiration.
    C. By playing in the national team.
    D. By ignoring other people’s jibes.
    3. What’s the best title for the text?
    A. Wang Shuang: A Steel Rose
    B. Wang Shuang: A Child Genius
    C. Wang Shuang:A Football Pioneer
    D. Wang Shuang: A Golden Age Creator
根据文章第二段内容“At seven, she was spotted by coach Xu Yilong, who found Wang quick in her playful behaviour. As the only girl in the boys’ team, Wang’s performances were impressive, earning her the nickname “Iron Girl.” And soon, she sensed the sport’s power. Football allowed her to “release herself” and realize “whatever happens, football never leaves you alone.”(7岁时,她被教练徐一龙(音译)看中,徐一龙发现王霜活泼好动。作为男队中唯一的女生,王霜的表现令人印象深刻,为她赢得了“铁妹”的绰号。很快,她就感受到这项运动的力量。足球让她“释放自我”,并意识到“无论发生什么,足球永远不会让你孤单。”)”可知,王霜认为足球能让她释放自己,意识到,无论发生什么,足球永远不会让她孤单。由此可推知,王霜从足球身上感受到了一种归属感。故选D项。
    【2题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第三段中的“When she was called up to the national team, aged 17, Wang thought, “Me? Are you sure?” When a world-famous club wanted to sign her, she was “excited that an excellent coach thought I was good.” It was only then that she felt confident in her abilities. “I felt recognized. Perhaps I had a bit of talent after all.”(17岁那年,当她被征召进国家队时,她想:“我?你确定吗?”当一家世界著名的俱乐部想要签下她时,她“很兴奋,因为一位优秀的教练认为我很出色。”直到那时,她才对自己的能力充满信心。“我觉得自己被认可了。也许我还是有点天赋的。”)”可知,在被招进国家队,自己的能力被认可时,王霜才对自己的能力充满信心。故选A项。
A项“Wang Shuang: A Steel Rose(“铿锵玫瑰”王霜)”更符合文章主题。故选A项。
    B
In the South China Sea, there is a group of Jiaoren, or Chinese mermaids (美人鱼), whose teardrops become pearls after they fall. To the north of Kunlun Mountains, there’s a monster called Xiangliu, which has nine heads with human faces but the body of a snake.
These magic creatures from the ancient book of legends Shan Hai Jing, which inspired J. K. Rowling for her Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series, are now brought back to life by a young Chinese girl in her photos.
Chen Xin, who learned painting as a child, said she started the photo series to commemorate (纪念) the days she spent with her grandma.
Every night before she went to sleep, her grandma told her stories in Shan Hai Jing. “I remember, especially in the summer nights, my grandma stayed outside to enjoy the light wind,” Chen said. “She sat on a rocking chair while I counted the stars and listened to her stories.” These stories opened her mind to an imaginative world with fantastic creatures.
To design the makeup and look of these creatures, Chen checked documents and combined the images with the appearance of animals. She used various means and materials to make the items look like horns or tails. “I used real yak horns (牦牛角). It’s difficult to fix them onto the head and face of models, as they will drop. So it takes a long time,” Chen said. She also chose places whose geographical conditions met the descriptions of the creatures for photos. “For example, some creatures live in areas surrounded by rocks, so I will try to find such a place,” she said.
Recently, Chen has been working on another two photo series about the 24 solar terms and Chinese food. “I’m happy that more and more people are now paying attention to and falling in love with Chinese traditional culture,” she said.
    4. Why does the author write the first paragraph?
    A. To amuse the readers.
    B. To recommend an ancient book.
    C. To introduce the topic of the text.
    D. To stress the diversity of Chinese culture.
    5. Why did Chen start the photo series?
    A. To become famous.
    B. To show off her talent.
    C. To spread traditional Chinese culture.
    D. To remember the happy days with her grandma.
    6. What opened Chen’s mind to an imaginative world?
    A. Chen’s carefree childhood.
    B. Those peaceful starry nights.
    C. One of J. K. Rowling’s books.
    D. Stories told by Chen’s grandma.
    7. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 5?
    A. How to draw creatures from Shan Hai Jing.
    B. The efforts Chen made to bring legendary animals to life.
    C. The makeup and look of creatures from Shan Hai Jing.
    D. Where to find a place to match the creatures from Shan Hai Jing.
C 5. D 6. D 7. B
根据第一段“In the South China Sea, there is a group of Jiaoren, or Chinese mermaids (美人鱼), whose teardrops become pearls after they fall. To the north of Kunlun Mountains, there’s a monster called Xiangliu, which has nine heads with human faces but the body of a snake.”(在中国南海,有一群美人鱼,她们的眼泪掉下来就变成了珍珠。

根据第三段“Chen Xin, who learned painting as a child, said she started the photo series to commemorate the days she spent with her grandma”(从小学习绘画的陈馨说,她开始拍摄这一系列照片是为了纪念和奶奶一起度过的日子)可知,陈开始拍摄系列照片为了纪念和奶奶在一起的快乐时光。故选D。
根据第五段“To design the makeup and look of these creatures, Chen checked documents and combined the images with the appearance of animals. She used various means and materials to make the items look like horns or tails. ‘I used real yak horns (牦牛角). It’s difficult to fix them onto the head and face of models, as they will drop. So it takes a long time,’ Chen said. She also chose places whose geographical conditions met the descriptions of the creatures for photos. ‘For example, some creatures live in areas surrounded by rocks, so I will try to find such a place,’she said.”(为了设计这些生物的妆容和外观,陈查阅了相关文档,并将图像与动物的外观相结合。
    C
Human activity has shrunk (缩小) the size of wild animals worldwide, and yet recent research has found many mammals (哺乳动物) living near cities have gradually become larger, both in length and in weight. The findings are unexpected. Spreading urban environments can grow much hotter than natural habitats, and warmer temperatures usually benefit mammals that have a smaller, more energy-saving figure—a principle of biology known as Bergmann’s rule.
As the world grows warmer, scientists have worried that mammals living near cities are going to grow smaller, possibly reducing their fitness and the fitness of their predators (捕食者). Even with climate change that might not happen. As it turns out, there is another factor affecting a mammal’s size that might exceed temperature, and that is food. In and around places with dense populations, where high-calorie human foods are more widely available and predators are fewer and farther in between, new research discovered that most of the mammal species studied appear to be growing in size, not shrinking. According to careful measurements of more than 100 species from North America, gathered from museum collections over the past 80 years, the main reason is not a city’s temperature. Instead, the greatest increases in weight and body length appear to lie among those mammals that live near humans, regardless of how hot their surroundings are.
As climate change grows worse, there is, of course, the possibility that that might change, but at least for now, it seems wolves, deer, bats, and other mammals in North America could be affected more by city populations than city climates.
If we want to protect mammals that exist today for the future, it’s important we know how human civilization is influencing their size, behavior, and well-being. In a rapidly changing world, that knowledge could mean the difference between ongoing life and dying out.
8 Why are the findings unexpected according to Paragraph 1?
    A. The temperature in cities is hotter than that in nature.
    B. Mammals around cities grow against Bergmann’s rule.
    C. The animals living in nature become bigger in size.
    D. The city temperature makes animals become smaller.
    9. What does the underlined word “dense” in Paragraph 2 mean?
    A. Large. B. Young. C. Working. D. Educated.
    10. Which of the following best supports the main idea of the text?
    A. Human activity has shrunk the size of wild animals.
    B. Climate matters most in determining the size of mammals.
    C. Mammals become larger with more food near cities.
    D. Living in hot surroundings shapes the size of mammals.
    11. What will the passage most probably talk about next?
    A. Human’s impact on the mammals’ development.
    B. Different ways to rescue the endangered city animals.
    C. How to help mammals adjust to the climate change.
    D. What healthy food can be given to city mammals.
B 9. A 10. C 11. A
根据第一段的“Human activity has shrunk (缩小) the size of wild animals worldwide, and yet recent research has found many mammals (哺乳动物) living near cities have gradually become larger, both in length and in weight.(人类活动缩小了世界范围内野生动物的体型,然而最近的研究发现,许多生活在城市附近的哺乳动物在长度和重量上都逐渐变大。)”和“Spreading urban environments can grow much hotter than natural habitats, and warmer temperatures usually benefit mammals that have a smaller, more energy-saving figure—a principle of biology known as Bergmann’s rule.(不断扩张的城市环境比自然栖息地要热得多,而温暖的气温通常有利于体型更小、更节能的哺乳动物——生物学原理被称为伯格曼法则。)”
根据第二段的“where high-calorie human foods are more widely available and predators are fewer(在那里,高热量的人类食物更容易获得,而捕食者更少)”可知,高热量的人类食物更容易获得,这说明这里人口多,因此“places with dense populations”是人口较多的地方,因此dense populations的意思是“人口很多”,即large populations, dense和large意思相近,故选A。
通读全文,尤其是第一段的“recent research has found many mammals (哺乳动物) living near cities have gradually become larger, both in length and in weight(最近的研究发现,许多生活在城市附近的哺乳动物在长度和重量上都逐渐变大)”和第二段的“In and around places with dense populations, where high-calorie human foods are more widely available and predators are fewer and farther in between, new research discovered that most of the mammal species studied appear to be growing in size, not shrinking.(新的研究发现,在人口密集的地区及其周边地区,高热量的人类食物更容易获得,而捕食者更少,距离更远。研究发现,大多数被研究的哺乳动物物种的体型似乎在增长,而不是在缩小。)”可知本文主要讲的是研究发现,随着城市附近食物的增加,哺乳动物的体型变得更大。故选C。
    【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段的“If we want to protect mammals that exist today for the future, it’s important we know how human civilization is influencing their size, behavior, and well-being.(如果我们想要保护现存的哺乳动物,了解人类文明是如何影响它们的体型、行为和福祉的,这很重要。)” 故选A。
    D
Jack has a very effective technique when he’s determined to get his way and he’s using it now staring at Suzannah, trying, she feels, to see into her soul. He doubtless can, of course, seeing as the very first day they met. He walked over to her and in that quiet yet confident way he had told her exactly what she was thinking.
“Look, Sure,” Jack says, in the soft, persuasive tone she’s never been able to resist, “we’ll only be borrowing it for two days. There’ll be no problem.”
Suzannah trembles inwardly. Jack wants to borrow her father’s car for the weekend while her parents are away, so they can take a group of friends to a party in a town 200 kilometres away. He won’t be insured to drive the car, and their no-doubt drunken friends will urge him on to drive ridiculously fast. He’s far from a safe driver.
“It’s not a good idea,” she resists weakly. “Imagine if we had an accident.”
“Suze. Trust me.” Again, the deep, warm look into her eyes and she’s near to giving in even though she knows she shouldn’t. She wants to please him. She’s about to agree when suddenly a small voice speaks up inside her.
“Suzannah,” the voice says, “you can’t allow this.” And she knows that for once she’s going to have to say no and do what’s right.
“No, Jack,” Suzannah says, surprised by how firm her voice sounds. “Just no.”
His eyes widen and he looks at her carefully. There’s a long pause and then his face breaks into a huge smile.
“Good girl,” he says, “you made the right decision,” and he kisses her gently on the forehead.
And with the warm kiss she knows that there is, after all, real hope for them.
    12. What can we learn about Jack and Suzannah’s relationship?
    A. Jack loves Suzannah deeply.
    B. Jack is dishonest to Suzannah.
    C. Jack controls Suzannah inwardly.
    D. Jack is respectful to Suzannah.
    13. How does Suzannah feel when she first hears Jack’s request?
    A. Excited.
    B. Frightened.
    C. Surprised.
    D. Disappointed.
    14. Why is Suzannah finally able to turn Jack’s request down?
    A. Because she loses her temper.
    B. Because she follows others’ advice.
    C. Because she listens to her feelings.
    D. Because she is tired of obeying Jack.
    15. What message does the author seem to convey in the text?
    A. Honesty helps to promote love.
    B. Love should be selfless for lovers.
    C. Ups and downs make a good relationship.
    D. Being brave to say “no” is vital for lovers.
C 13. B 14. C 15. D
根据第一段中的“Jack has a very effective technique when he’s determined to get his way and he’s using it now staring at Suzannah, trying, she feels, to see into her soul. He doubtless can, of course, seeing as the very first day they met.(当杰克下定决心要达到目的时,他有一个非常有效的技巧,他现在就在用这个技巧盯着苏珊娜看,她觉得,他想看透她的灵魂。毫无疑问,他可以,就像他们第一天见面一样)”及第二段““Look, Sure,” Jack says, in the soft, persuasive tone she’s never been able to resist, “we’ll only be borrowing it for two days. There’ll be no problem.”(“听着,当然,”杰克说,用的是她从来都无法抗拒的温柔而有说服力的语气,“我们只借两天。不会有问题的。”)”可推知,杰克似乎可以窥视苏珊娜的内心,他的话语对她颇具说服力,在意识上控制着苏珊娜的内心。故选C。
    【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Suzannah trembles inwardly.(苏珊娜内心颤抖)”及“He won’t be insured to drive the car, and their no-doubt drunken friends will urge him on to drive ridiculously fast. He’s far from a safe driver.(他不会为开车买保险,而且他们那些喝醉酒的朋友肯定会怂恿他开得快得离谱。他根本不是一个安全的司机)”可推知,苏珊娜在听到杰克的要求时,心中非常害怕。故选B。
    【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第六段““Suzannah,” the voice says, “you can’t allow this.” And she knows that for once she’s going to have to say no and do what’s right.(“苏珊娜,”那个声音说,“你不能允许这样。”她知道这一次她必须说不,做正确的事)”可知,苏珊娜听从了她内心的声音,拒绝了杰克的借车请求。故选C。
    【15题详解】
    推理判断题。根据整个故事可知,苏珊娜以前受杰克的意识控制,而这一次她听从了自己的内心的声音勇敢地对他说不,这并没有影响他们感情的延续。由此推知,作者在文章中似乎传达的信息是“勇敢地说“不”对恋人来说是至关重要的”。故选D。

    【20题详解】
上文“No ordinary people would have been allowed or would even have dared to come within close proximity to these buildings.”(普通人不允许或甚至不敢靠近这些建筑。)提到以前普通人是不允许或不敢接近故宫的,F项“Although”引导的从句承接上文,提到以往故宫是不可进入的宫城,主句转折,介绍如今故宫成为了开放的博物院,引出下文“The collection, displayed in gallery halls throughout the complex, is becoming increasingly more accessible with digital technologies.”(人们通过数字技术可以接触更多故宫展厅中展示的藏品。)

故删除from。
