In 2018,a major new exhibition opened at New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).The show brought together more than a hundred works by a single Brazilian artist:Tarsila do Amaral.Although widely celebrated in her native country, the artist was relatively unknown outside Brazil. So who was Tarsila?
Born in 1886, Tarsila do Amaral is considered the mother of modern art Brazil. She first developed a love for art after her parents sent her to study in Spain She returned to Europe a few years later, and settled in Paris. Several artists there including Picasso, were beginning to experiment with new forms-less realistic and more abstract. The new approaches continued to influence Tarsila after she returned to Brazil.
Approaches to art in Brazil at that time were relatively conservative(保守的).Traditional European styles dominated, with works mainly featuring natural, religious, or historical scenes in soft colors. Tarsila decided to take a different direction: “I want to be the painter of my country,” she wrote. Her images began to reflect Brazil's diverse identity-a mix of native, African, and European peoples. She used strong, vivid colors to paint real-life scenes of the nation's farmers, countryside, and wildlife. This had never been done before i Brazilian art.
One of Tarsila's most famous works is Abaporu (1928),which means “Mar Who Eats People." The painting has a playful quality, but its look and feel are distinctly Brazilian. The work later inspired a Brazilian art movement called antropofagia. Brazilian artists began to take in styles from other cultures and mix them with local influences. The result was something uniquely Brazilian.
Tarsila do Amaral died in São Paulo in 1973,age 86.But her artwork and legacy live on in her native Brazil. “For Brazilians, her recognition is off the charts," says James Rondeau, director of the Art Institute of Chicago. “She is the Picasso of Brazil." Now, with the MoMA exhibition, Tarsila's art is being appreciated by a new audience of admirers around the world.

Babies born during the first Covid-19 lockdown reached fewer developmental milestones at the age of one, compared with those born before the pandemic-although they may have been faster to crawl(爬),a recent study suggested.
About 600,000 babies were born in Britain during 2020 when Covid restrictions put a stop to many social activities, including antenatal(出生前的)group outings and meeting grandparents. Since then, parents and psychologists have thought about the impact of the lockdown on the social development of babies.
Dr Susan Byrne,a pediatric neurologist(儿科神经学家)said,“During the first six months the families studied in Ireland were in contact with only four other people outside the family unit on average, and by the time the babies reached 12 months, one in four of them hadn't met another child their own age.”
To investigate how this affected development, Byrne and her co-workers asked the parents of 309 "pandemic " babies to assess their babies' ability to crawl, pick up tiny objects with a thumb and index finger, express at least one definite and meaningful word, and meet seven other developmental milestones once they reached 12 months. The babies were all born between March and May 2020.
The study suggested the pandemic lockdown had a small but measurable effect on babies' language and communication skills; compared with pre-pandemic babies, these were less likely to have one definite word (89% v 77%), to point at objects (93% v 84%), or be able to wave bye-bye(94.5% v 88%).However, more could crawl(91%v 97.5%),perhaps due to spending less time in a pushchair.
Byrne stressed that the differences were small, and there was plenty that parents could do to help toddlers(学步儿童)catch up. “Babies are resilient(有复原力的)and curious by nature."
28.What's the purpose of the study?
A.To advocate family activities with babies.
B.To find out the impact of lockdown on babies.
C.To make out babies' developmental milestones.
D.To confirm the public assumption about Covid-19.
29.What does “this" underlined in paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Lacking contact with others.
B.Coming down with Covid-19.
C.Stopping visiting grandparents.
D.Meeting babies of the same age.
30.How did Byrne get the findings?
A.By doing an online survey.
C.By referring to previous data.
B.By making assessments.
D.By making comparisons.
31.What may Byrne suggest parents doing?
A.Using a pushchair more often.
B.Socializing with other families.
C.Helping babies do more exercises.
D.Monitoring children's development.

Digging out potato tubers(茎块)is one of the greatest rewards gardens have to offer. Children in particular are surprised at seeing these tubers that almost magically become chips, mash(泥)or baked potatoes.
Happily, potatoes are very easy to grow. Seed tubers are placed in good garden soil, ideally with some compost(堆肥)for every square meter,in a sunny spot, about 10cm deep at 30cm intervals in rows 60-70cm apart.
Seed tubers are offered as curliest and second earliest and maincrop. The second earliest and maincrops can be stored for winter use but earliest are usually consumed in summer.
Seasoned potato growers buy early seed potatoes in February and place them in a cool, reasonably light place and let them sprout(发芽).It takes six weeks for small sprouts to form.
Early potatoes are typically planted from middle March in the South, but are likely to emerge before the first season finishes in May. The shoots are frost-sensitive requiring protection on cold nights with either earth or newspapers.
Second early and maincrop potatoes are planted in middle April-the frost risk will be low,but not absent,by the time they cmerge. As the stems(茎)grow, soil should be drawn around them until the leaves meet in the row in early summer. At this stage, the potato field is a series of ridges(脊,垄).The tubers form in the ridge, protected from light that turns them green. Covering with black plastic or a thick layer of compost is also accessible instead of ridging, but plastic is not sustainable and slugs(鼻涕虫)can multiply in compost.
Once the flowers are fully open, it is time to dig plants when the tubers are the size of a hen's egg. They grow rapidly but gradually lose their juicy new potato flavour,so harvest freely.
32.What's the writing purpose of paragraph 1?
A.To describe a magic process.
B.To recall a childhood memory.
C.To raise a potato-related topic.
D.To introduce a gardening award.
33.What can we learn about seed tubers?
A.The closer the intervals are,the faster they will grow.
B.The warmer the weather is,the better they will grow.
C.The earlier they are planted, the healthier they will grow.
D.The deeper they are planted, the stronger they will grow.
34.What helps potatoes grow in the long term?
A.Frost.
B.Plastic.
C.Ridges.
D.Slugs.
35.What's the text mainly about?
A.How to cook potatoes.
C.How to harvest potatoes.
B.How to grow potatoes.
D.How to preserve potatoes.

Summer is a wonderful season filled with lots of fun in the sun. But what if your job requires you to spend several hours outside each and every day? 36 But today I'm sharing some easy ways to protect my skin from the sun's harmful rays.
Time of Day is Important
The sun is at its most intense(强烈的)level and UV is at its strongest between the hours of 10 a.m.and 4 p.m.We typically try to complete our outside chores(家务) before 10 a.m. 37 Sometimes after 4 p.m. we're back outside to finish up the mowing(割草),fencing or cattle working and can often work until dark. I’ve learned that the shorter your shadow underneath you, the stronger the UV rays can be. 38
Cover Arms and Legs
When my husband mows the yard, he wears heavy jeans and a long-sleeve shirt. Although he was initially very hesitant to wear a long-sleeve shirt, he was actually cooler than he would have been otherwise because that hot sun was not shining directly upon his skin. 39 It's good to remember: When possible, wear the tightest-weave fabric you can.
Gloves Serve Double Duty
40 Most of the time I like to wear lightweight garden gloves with special fingertips to allow me to operate my smart phone without removing the gloves. Wearing gloves not only helps me hold things more securely, but they also prevent the skin on my hands from the sun.
A.I typically wear gloves when working outside.
B.A hat that shades your face and ears is a smart move.
C.Sun cream has its place in people's skin-protection choices.
D.These tips get me through most days of our work outdoors.
E.When the sun starts getting high in the sky, we come inside.
F.So it's best to be outside when your shadow is longer than your height.
G.I've learned that the tighter the weave, the more protection is received.

Last September was my first month of middle school, which was completely overwhelming(不知所措的).Every day in the passages,I felt lost and not very smart. Everyone at school seemed to know who they were and what they were doing, but not me. I was desperate to find my place at school.
And then there was the school play. Hmm, costumes might be kind of fun. I added my name to the sign-up sheet for props and costumes. That’s the real beginning of this story, I guess.
I'd had an enjoyable backstage making sure all the actors had their shoes and figuring out how to make a fake pocket watch out of a bicycle chain for the Train Conductor. But then, on opening night, Mr.Bash, the director, rushed up to me.
"There you are,Maisy,”he panted(气喘吁吁).“I need you to step in for Bailey tonight. He broke his leg during lunch."
I started sweating. “I..."I stammered(结结巴巴地说),shaking my head.
"Listen, I know this is short notice,"Mr.Bash said.“ But we can't do the show without Lost Cow. You know the cues(暗示)because you’re always waiting to take the halter rope(缰绳)from Bailey and give him the straw hat."
“But...”
"Just go onstage, get the rope from Train Conductor,do the shrug(耸肩),and walk off. After all, no one will even know that it's you."
That stopped me short. If I had to go out there and recite a bunch of lines, I might faint. Or else throw up. But what if I were wearing the cow head, and my name wasn't in the program, and no one could really even see me?
Right then, I decided I'd try. Maybe it would be fun?
So fifteen minutes later, I was waiting behind the curtain." ready, Lost Cow?" said a voice beside me .It was Mr. Bash.
"No one knows it's me, right?" I asked.
“No one,"Mr.Bash said.
注意:
1.写作词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Students in our school spend much time reading in our spare time, and our interests vary. According to my survey, 55% of the students enjoy literature, 22.3% prefer life-related content, 15% students turn to academic books, while 47% read for entertainment.
It’s encouraging to see such various interests, as reading enriches our mind. I hope we can explore different genres beyond our comfort zones. Together, we can create a vibrant reading community that broadens our horizons and develops intellectual curiosity.
第二节(满分25分)
I took a deep breath and stepped onto the stage. I did a ridiculous shrug at Train Conductor. I made the two Farmhand actors giggle when I bumped on purpose into the hay-wagon set. And I playfully whirled my tail as I exited the stage, whipping Train Conductor in the leg. Hearing people laugh and yell “Wooo!”, I grinned inside the cow head. It wasn’t so scary after all. Instead, it was so cool that I was pretty sure I had finally found my place at school.
“Awesome job, Maisy,” Mr. Bash said, grinning. “Did you enjoy it?” “Sure I did! It was just easy because I didn’t have to be me. It was just a character in a costume, you know?” “Well, that works out,” Mr. Bash said. “You’re so brave—I never could have done that when I was your age.” It felt different now, saying yes to putting myself out there. It turns out that I’d just needed some time to figure out what was true.
