    A

For millions of people sitting in a traffic jam or standing on a crowded train, the daily commute(通勤) probably isn’t the best part of their day. But cars and trains aren’t the only travel options.

    Electric vehicles

For those who have a short commute, you could consider getting an electric bike or scooter. An electric scooter has the advantage of being highly portable (轻便的): small and light enough to carry to your office. You’ll just need to check if it is allowed to be used in your area.

Take RYNO for example. It’s a single-wheel electric scooter, whose highest speed is about that of a bicycle. And like other electric vehicles, it can be charged anywhere.

    WalkCar

If you want transportation for short distances, the WalkCar might be perfect for you.

The WalkCar looks like a laptop and only weighs three kilograms. It’s also incredibly easy to use---stand on it and it will start to move; move your weight to one side and it will change its direction. The WalkCar will take you at a speed of up to 10 kilometers per hour and can travel 12 kilometers on one charge.

    Jetpacks

Weighing around 200 kilograms, jetpacks aren’t exactly portable, but they’re sure to have a lot of fun and attract a lot of attention. Running on petrol, the jet engines allow the users to lift off from the ground and fly in the air.

The world’s first jetpack is the Martin Jetpack. Once you’ve attached this tiny personal jet plane onto your back, you’ll be able to travel up to 50 kilometers at a height of 1,000 meters. With a price tag of about $150,000, this is probably the most expensive option, but it will almost certainly be the coolest!

    21. What do Electric vehicles and WalkCar have in common?

    Being portable.             Being rechargeable.

Being widely used.          Being suitable for short distances.

    A. ①②③

    B. ①②④

    C. ①③④

    D. ②③④

    22. What might be the reason for customers to choose jetpacks?

    A. The price.

    B. The appearance.

    C. The weight.

    D. The flight performance.

    23. Which column is the text probably taken from?

    A. Education.

    B. Art.

    C. Entertainment.

    D. Transport.

    B

Bubble tea(珍珠奶茶 ), also called boba, is becoming harder to find as the COVID-19-related shortage takes hold. The blockage of the Suez Canal by a large cargo ship in March 2021 is causing delays in the global supply chain, which is a big part of the reasons for the shortage.

“This is an industry-wide shortage,” the owners of Hayward, California-based US Boba Company said on their Boba Guys Instagram page. “Some boba shops are already out. Others will be out in the next few weeks. 99% of boba comes from overseas. ”

Oliver Yoon, vice-president of sales and marketing for Boba Tea Direct, a Chicago-based nationwide supplier of bubble tea products, told Business Insider that the shortage started about a month ago and wasn’t likely to end until the end of April at the earliest.

Alex Ou, owner of Tea & Others in San Francisco, said that 70% of her customers prefer boba drinks. “Some people will not buy drinks if we’re out of boba,” Ou said. “They’re simply here for the boba.”

“We have storehouses on both East and West Coast, so compared with other boba brands, there is little impact on us,” said Mai Shi, manager of Kung Fu Tea. “From this industry-wide shortage, we see the increasing demand for the entire bubble tea category as people want fresh, made-to-order drinks. We are using this as an opportunity to improve our products to attract more customers,” she said.

And despite the shortage, Kung Fu Tea is still planning to celebrate its annual National Bubble Tea Day when it gives its app users a free drink with a $ 4 credit to use on their next order.

    24. What is the main reason for the boba shortage?

    A. The popularity of boba.

    B. The rising cost of shipping.

    C. The lack of proper storehouses.

    D. The traffic jams on the Suez Canal.

    25. What can be inferred from Alex Ou’s words?

    A. The demand for boba is increasing.

    B. The boba shortage will last for a while.

    C. Boba is popular among its customers.

    D. The boba shortage leads to a loss of 70% of the customers.

    26. What is Mai Shi’s attitude towards the future of bubble tea products?

    A. Positive.

    B. Cautious.

    C. Indifferent.

    D. Worried.

    27. What will Kung Fu Tea do for its National Bubble Tea Day?

    A. Offer its customers free refills.

    B. Replace boba with other drinks.

    C. Hand out free drinks to its app users.

    D. Run advertisements with a wider reach.

    C

As I look up at the hundreds of fireworks in the sky, I hear the bells ringing in small temple welcoming the coming of the Chinese New Year. Though I may not believe in or understand many of the New Year traditions here, the similarities between the coming of this New Year and the beginning of my new life in China are not lost on a big boy like me.

My first few days in China were a cultural shock to say the least. Having arrived late in the semester, I immediately had to begin my beginners’ Chinese classes, along with the newest class of overseas students. Being surrounded by a language that isn’t your own is unbelievably annoying. Due to the picture-based fashion of Chinese writing, it’s not like you can have a guess, or work it out through whatever knowledge you have from other Latin-originated languages. If you don’t know what it says, then that’s it. However, with time passing, I have found myself progressing, though painfully and slowly. The first time I called a taxi by myself, the driver actually understood where I wanted to go, which is hugely rewarding (有益的). Although it is never long before my lack of language skill is exposed (暴露的) and I come crashing back to earth.

Gaining a language is a huge valuable skill. However, it is not the only thing I will gain in China. After this year of learning Chinese, I aim to gain my Master’s degree here at University of Jinan. Opportunities do come around rather often: from being offered jobs teaching English, to being asked to appear on game-shows for Shandong TV. So, for now, I am just looking forward to expanding my cultural horizons (眼界) and enjoying my time here. I take some time to get used to everything, but that’s part of the adventure and, most of all, employment. So, much like the Chinese New Year that I am lucky enough to be part of, I am just looking forward to a fresh start and a new journey in China.

    28. Why couldn’t the author guess the meaning of the Chinese language?

    A. Because of his late arrival.

    B. Because of his lack of the Latin language.

    C. Because of his experience of cultural shock.

    D. Because of the unique way of Chinese writing.

    29. What does the author want to show through his taxi experience?

    A. He is poor at using public transport.

    B. He finds it easy to call a taxi in China.

    C. He is good at chatting with the taxi driver.

    D. He feels pleased to have made progress in Chinese.

    30. What is the author’s present expectation?

    A. To settle down in China.

    B. To broaden his cultural horizons.

    C. To become a famous host on TV.

    D. To be an excellent teaching assistant.

    31. Which can be the best title for this passage?

    A. Exploring Chinese: valuable skills mastered

    B. Learning Chinese: adventurous but enjoyable

    C. Studying in China: challenging but rewarding

    D. Coming to China: more opportunities promised

    D

We have heard some interesting ways that 5G technology might change our lives in the future, making our lives more convenient.

5G promises Internet speeds 50 to 100 times faster than current 4G systems. While 5G is set to be used in some limited areas of America this year, much of the world is not expected to receive widely available service until 2023.

One project in Britain, however, is already testing this superfast technology on an unlikely group of Internet users—cows. The project was developed by American technology company Cisco Systems. It also receives money from the British government. Cisco says the program aims to explore the future of 5G connectivity in rural (乡村的) areas around the world.

Testing areas are set up on farms in three rural areas of England. The cows are equipped with 5G-connected devices that link up with a robotic milking system, which uses sensors and machine learning to fully automate (使自动化) the process. System designers say technology will start when a cow feels ready to be milked and walks toward an automatic gate. The device is designed to recognize each individual cow. It then places the equipment to the right body position for milking. During the process, machines release (释放) food for the cow as a reward.

Other 5G technology tools include automated brushes that turn on when the cow rubs against them. Sensors also control the amount of light to the cows’ living areas depending on the weather. And, an automatic feeding system makes sure the animals always get enough to eat.

Duncan Forbes, head of the project, tells Reuters that the project shows the farm’s cow industry can be greatly improved with 5G technology and that the experiment provides strong evidence that 5G technology can be widely used in the future, not just on farms in Britain, but in rural communities across the world.

    32. What is the purpose of Cisco Systems’ program?

    A. To win financial support from the British government.

    B. To test the effects of 5G technology on animals.

    C. To promote its technological development in Britain.

    D. To expand the future use of 5G in rural communities.

    33. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 3 refer to?

    A. The project.      B. The company.     C. The technology.     D. The group.

    34. What can we learn about 5G according to the text?

    1. It is no worse than 4G in terms of speed.
    2. It is already widely available in the world.
    3. It enables cows to control their own milking.
    4. It is based on sensors and machine learning.

    35. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?

    A. Entertainment.    B. Lifestyle.        C. Education.         D. Technology.

    第二节 (5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5)

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

There are things you can do to make the language learning process faster and easier for yourself. Language teachers try to keep these techniques secret because once you know them, you’ll be able to learn any language super fast. The professionals don’t want you to know the secrets. 36.__________.

    Learn the right words

One essential trick to learn a language fast is to accept that you will never know every single word in the language---nor do you need to. Do you know every single word of your native language? No, 37.________. Use an app like Anki which will show you the essential words to learn and will also help you to learn them quickly.

Force yourself to use the language

A way to force yourself to use the new language daily is to change your cell phone or social media language setting to the new language. The device you choose will help you navigate around, 38.________, without even thinking about it.

    Cut your native language completely

If you learn by first translating the words in your head into your native language, you’ll become an adept translator, 39.________. Only by thinking in the new language can you truly be fluent. So instead of looking at something and naming it in your native language and then translating that, look at it and name it in the new language.

    40.________.

Saying you want to be fluent in a month is likely to lead to disappointment. Instead, start with goals such as “be able to follow a simple conversation” and slowly build up to being completely fluent.

    第二节 (满分25)

    阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头续写两段文字,150词左右,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

“ Mommy, don’t go, ” my three-year-old son screamed as I walked to the door. My fifteen-year-old leaned against the kitchen counter with his arms folded across his chest, not screaming, but glaring at me as I pulled his little brother off my legs.

“Are you angry with me, too?”

“You spend all your time taking care of other people’s kids, but what about us?” Dylan left angrily .

I was shocked and a little hurt. How could my own child not understand that the work I was doing was saving lives? Then the answer hit me. He didn’t know, because he had never seen what Healing the Children actually did. Dylan had heard the stories of sick children, but had never once looked into the eyes of a child and understood the hard truth---that without our help, the children would likely die.

“Get dressed. You are going with me.” I said.

I spent the drive explaining the case of Hector to my son, who pretended to ignore me the entire time. “He’s seven, only weighs thirty pounds and is very sick. He has a heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot, which could kill him. It is a miracle (奇迹) that he is still alive.”

I went on to explain that it took a team of volunteer medical staff to get Hector to the hospital from his remote village and care for him while he was there. Still, Dylan seemed unimpressed.

We stopped at a convenience store for water and snacks. Dylan had one large and one small Slurpee (思乐冰饮料). He said the small one was for Hector. I doubted whether the little guy would be able to drink it, but remained silent. This was the first interest Dylan had shown in being there. I wasn’t about to ruin it.

I stopped at the nurses’station to check on Hector’s progress while Dylan went to his room. Our patient was recovering physically, but the nurse was concerned that Hector was struggling emotionally. She said, “Kids usually recover fast, but he hardly speaks and never smiles.”

    Paragraph 1:

Imagine my surprise when I heard laughter from Hector’s room.

On the way home that night, Dylan asked me several times whether Hector would be OK. _________________________________________________________________
