教学重点: 1.To tell the meaning of the word – misadventure by presenting the meaning of the word directly. 2.To make Ss understand the meaning of expressions in the word cloud and passage by giving sentences. 教学难点: How to make Ss translate the given sentences correctly and then master the meaning of expressions in the word cloud and passage. |
教学过程 |
Step 1 The teacher will present the word “misadventure” and its English and Chinese definitions to make Ss understand the meaning of the word. And then the teacher will introduce the topic-for today - Misadventures in English Expressions. Step 2 The teacher will give the expressions in understanding ideas and tell the meaning of them one by giving examples. 1. Ring a bell 1) James Bond - the name rings a bell, I must have heard it before. to sound familiar 听起来熟悉 2) Andre tells me that I have met his little brother, but that doesn’t ring a bell with me. ring a bell with sb.=remind sb. of sth. 使某人想某事 2. toilet water a light perfume that does not have a very strong smell 淡淡的香水,花露水 3. What's up? “Hey ,man. What's up?”, I said to him. “Nothing much,” he answered. What’s going on? 你好/出了什么事? 4. Small potato (BRE) small beer sb./sth. that is unimportant or insignificant小人物;微不足道的事情 I can't make final decisions, because I’m only a small potato here. 我无法做决定,我只是一个小人物。 5. at sixes and sevens My room is at sixes and sevens. in a confused, badly-organised, or difficult situation乱七八糟,混乱的 6. pull up your socks If you want to gain promotion, you will have to pull up your socks. 如果你想升职,你必须加紧努力。 to make an effort to improve your work or behaviour because it is not good enough 鼓起勇气; 加紧努力 7. green fingers. My mother has green fingers. natural ability in growing plants园艺高手 Step 3 The teacher will present the Four misadventures in the post one by one. 1. have a frog in one’s throat unable to speak clearly for a short time because your throat is dry or blocked(声音嘶哑) 2. On the first floor (UK) the floor of a building above the one at ground level(二楼) (US) the floor of a building at ground level (一楼) 3. wicked morally wrong and intending to hurt people; (邪恶的) (informal) very good, fantasti(极好的) 4. Not bad pretty good, better than you expected(很好;不错) Step 4 The teacher will ask a question: What caused their misunderstandings? Coming from different cultural backgrounds Not truly understanding the meanings of English words Having few experiences of talking to people from other countries Step 5 Homework Finish the tasks in the list.
