My favorite Spring Festival

    The Spring Festival, falling on the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar, is the most important festival for all Chinese people. Although I have experienced it many times, it is still an enjoyable and exciting experience.

    Days before the Spring Festival, I helped my parents clean the room completely, decorated my house with papercuts, prepared delicious food, and stuck couplets, eagerly waiting for the coming of the New Year’s Eve .

    On the Eve of the festival, my family members enjoyed getting together to have a  big meal, including the tasty dumplings, fish and so on as we watched  the Spring Gala, which was really a feast for the eyes. My parents gave me some lucky money in red paper and I was so excited that I stayed up to welcome the new year.

   Although feeling tired, I was extremely happy because the Festival provides a valuable chance for us to enjoy as well as be proud of our customs. I’m looking forward to the coming of the next  Spring Festival.

The Lantern Festival

After the Spring Festival, here comes the Lantern Festival. In China, people celebrate it on the fifteenth day of the lunar month, which is also called “Yuan Xiao Festival”. On that day, everyone enjoys themselves with the company of their family members.

It’s history can date back to as early as the Western Han Dynasty(206BC-AD25). Emperor Mingdi ordered all people to hang lamps to show respect to the Buddha. Because they believed that the power of Buddha can dispel darkness. Nowadays, it is just a day people enjoy their times with their families.

People all celebrate this festival with plenty of food and fun. The most important and traditional food is Tang-yuan. The Lantern show as well as guessing riddles written on lanterns is the most interesting part of the Lantern Festival. Besides, people can also watch some wonderful folk performances, the Dragon Dance, the Lion Dance and Yangko Dance.

The Mid-Autumn Festival

    August 15th in Chinese Lunar Calendar is the Mid-Autumn Day. It is one of the most important traditional festivals in China.

    On that day people usually go back home to have a family reunion. Family members get together to have a big dinner. The most popular food is moon cakes. There are all kind of moon cakes, which are delicious. They are round and look like the moon.

    The moon is the brightest that night. People eat the tasty mooncakes while they are enjoying a beautiful full moon in the open air. At that time, some old people would like to tell many past events and tell the children a story about the rabbit on the moon. The children really believe that there is a rabbit on the moon. They hope to go to the moon and have a look one day.
