Srikanth did not disappoint his parents. The now twenty-four r year old man is the founder and CEO of Bollant Industries.

Sure enough, the young boy soon rose to the top of his class, earning awards in speech and debate competitions. But Srikanth was prevented from studying science when he reached 10th grade, because it was thought too dangerous for a blind Student. Not wanting to give up, Srikanth took legal action and became the first blind student in the country allowed to study science.
Later, after graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Srikanth setup Boll ant Industries in 2012. For just four years, it has become a powerhouse with over 450 employees, 70% of whom are physically challenged.

People perform graceful moves, all while standing on a bamboo strip in the river. You may think it's a scene from an art movie, but actually it is a form of intangible cultural heritage: bamboo drifting(独竹漂) .
Bamboo drifting dated back to over 2, 000 years ago in the Chishui River area of Guizhou. During the Qin Dynasty, the Bozhou district of Zunyi city was known for its high-quality nanmu. It was in great demand by the royal court more than 2, 000 kilometers to the north. With no transportation along the Chishui River, people had to stand on one log(原木) to drift down the river. Later, local people began to compete along the way and the game of wood drifting was born. In the Qing Dynasty, wood drifting became bamboo drifting because of bamboo slower price.
Now, communities in Guizhou t hold bamboo drifting competitions every year during Dragon Boat Festival Due to the great strength and balance it takes for one to get the hang of this act, bamboo drifting was included in the national intangible cultural heritage list.

Yang also produces new ideas when spreading the culture of bamboo drifting. For example, she connects dance with bamboo drifting to make it more graceful and wears hanfu when performing, creating a beautiful feel. Hidden in the trees, behind the leaves, look closely and you’ll see eyes staring back at you. This is Sloth Bot, a robot inspired by the famously slow animal—sloth(树獭).
For the next several months, visitors to the Atlanta Botanical Garden will be able to observe the testing of the new high-tech tool in the battle to save some of the world's most endangered spec is Researchers are testing the SlothBot near the Garden's popular Canopy Walk
Built to take advantage of the low-energy lifestyle of real sloths, Sloth Bot demonstrates how being slow can be ideal for certain applications. Powered by solar panels and using innovative power management technology, Sloth Bot moves along a cable strung between two large trees as it monitors temperature, weather, carbon dioxide levels, and other information in the Garden’s 30-acre midtown Atlanta forest.
“slowness is a design principle of Sloth Bot,” says Magnus Egerstedt, professor and chair in the Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “That is not how robots are typical l designed today, but being slow and energy-efficient will allow Sloth Bot to stay in the environment to observe things we can only see by being present continuously for months, or even years.”
About three feet long, SlothBot's imaginative 3D-printed shell helps protect its motors, gearing, batteries and sensing equipment from the weather. The robot is programmed to move only when necessary, and will locate sunlight when its batteries need recharging.
“The most exciting goal we’ll demonstrate with Sloth Bot is the union of robotics and technology with conservation,” says Emily Coffey, vice president for conservation and research at the Garden. “We do conservation research on endangered plants and ecosystems around the world, and Sloth Bot will help us find new and exciting ways to advance our research and conservation goals.”
“SlothBot could do some of our research remotely and help us understand what's happening with pollinators(传粉者), interactions between plants and animals, and other phenomena that are difficult to observe otherwise,” Coffey adds.
32. What do the researchers expect Sloth Bot to do?
A. Guard the garden. B. Attract visitors.
C. Protect real sloths. D. Help endangered species.

A. Sloth Bot. B. Slowness. C. A design principle. D. A low-energy style.
34. What can we know about Sloth Bot?
A. It always stays still. B. It can pollinate the plants.
C. Its shell provides protection for it sell. D. Its design will be used to study the ocean.
35. What maybe the best title for the text?
A. A Slow-moving Sloth Begins Life in a Garden
B. A New Robot Helps Raise Endangered Animals
C. A New Study Aids Conservation Efforts in Atlanta
D. A Conservation Robot Slowly Monitors Endangered Species

I couldn't believe what Neil, my landlord(房东), was telling me on that warm April night. Thad tears in my eyes, and so did he. I had lived in his Staten Island house for more than twelve years
Neil had never raised my rent, which was $750 a month, very cheap for New York City. This was a big comfort when I was laid off from my newspaper job and couldn't find any work for two years. He promised me that I would always have a home, even if I had a hard time paying the rent. But now, I was going to have to find a new apartment and pay more.
Although he gave me six months to find a new place, I was still astonished and worried. So I called Jon, my best friend, to complain about my bad experience. But Jon surprised and annoyed me.
“Look on the bright side,” he said. “Maybe you will find a place you like better. Do you remember you complained all the time about the crowded bus to and from the house? Why don't you find a place where you don't have to take that bus?”
“How can you say that?” I shouted at him. “This is way out of my comfort zone!”
“Come on, Lisa. Did it ever occur to you that change could be good?” Jon said
“No!” I screamed and hung upon him
I felt upset for the next few days about our argument. But what if Jon was right? Why did I assume that every change would be bad? Maybe my life needed to be shaken up.

参考答案、提示及评分细则
听力部分录音稿
(Text 1)
M: I'd like to book a single room with a view of the river, please.
W: OK, sir. It's 150 pounds a night. For how many nights would that be?
M: Three nights.
(Text 2)
M: It's almost one o'clock. I'm going out to get a sandwich. I can get one for you, too, if you like.
W: That's very kind of you. Could you get me a cup of coffee, too? I have to finish this report.
(Text 3)
M: Diane, do you think you'll get the report finished by five o'clock?
W: By five? No way. There's too much to do.
M: Would you mind staying late to finish it? Our boss will need it tomorrow morning.
(Text 4)
M: Hello, I would like to sign up for some fitness classes.
W: Great! What would you like to do? We have a lot of classes, yoga, boxing, and...
(Text 5)
M: I don't see the value of these paintings. They look like the kind of pictures my four-year-old daughter paints.
W: I agree. I would never put them in my house.
(Text 6)
W: Hey, Sean. I hear you moved home last week. Congratulations!
M: Thanks. It's a smaller place than I was in, though. And it's more expensive.
W: But don't you find it's more convenient to be in the city?
M: Yes, that's why I moved. I love the countryside, but it used to take 40 minutes to get here on the train. Now I walk to work!
(Text 7)
W: Hold on a minute, Dad. Didn't we walk by those two trees about an hour ago?
M: Hm. Yes, I’m afraid we did.
W: Oh, no! We've gone so far into the forest.
M: Stay calm, Gina. I know how to get out. When I was young, your grandpa taught me that if I was ever lost in the forest, I should just walk downhill As long as you're going downhill, sooner or later you'll find a village or town where you can ask people for help.
W: That makes sense. But which way is down? It's hard to tell when there are trees everywhere.
M: Well, there's a river over there. Have you ever seen water flows uphill?
(Text 8)
M: How quickly time passes! It seems like only yesterday that my son Jason was born, and now he's 20 and about to leave us. He's got a job in Spain, so he's moving there.
W: My son Richard's the same. He's 21, and he looks very much like his dad now. He also has the same character as his dad.
M: Did he move out?
W: Yes, Richard's already left home. We only see him several times a year.
M: It's sad when your dearest ones move away. Our daughter lives in the US, and we hardly ever see her. It's hard not being able to visit your own children often.
W: Yes. But then, you know, our family always prefer being independent. We never live in each other's pockets. I think it's a good quality.
(Text 9)
M: Did you see that quiz show on Channel 5 last night?
W: No. Was it any good?
M: It was great. Charles Hamilton always makes me laugh. He's good at presenting this show anyway.
W: Sounds good. I'll see what this quiz show's like. When is it on?
M: It's on at 8: 00 pm every Friday. I'm sure you will like it.
W: So are all the questions really easy and just about pop music and movies?
M: No, they're general knowledge questions. Actually, they start off a bit easy but they get harder and harder as the show goes on. You have to really think about them. The last few ones are really challenging.
W: Usually I'm not bad at general knowledge questions—especially ones about history or literature. I shouldn't have much of a problem.
M: Great. I'm good at maths and science. We should have a quiz at school some time. Maybe I can ask Mr. Kingsley, my geography teacher, to organize it. I'm sure he could get quite a few other people to take part, too.
W: That sounds like fun.
(Text 10)
M: OK, everyone. It's just before nine, so we should beat our first stop very shortly—Windsor Castle. A few reminders: Entry into the castle is included in your tour ticket, so stick with me when we get off the coach. I’ll get you straight in. You'll have almost two hours to look around. Remember, we'll meet back at 10: 50 at the same place we drop you off at—just outside the visitor center. At 11 o'clock, we'll watch the Changing the Guard Ceremony. Then at 11: 30 we're off to our next destination, Big Ben, where we'll stop for an hour. That is enough time to walk around the place and get some good photos. Then this afternoon after lunch we'll go to the lovely city of Bath. Today's going to be a full day. Tomorrow morning, we will visit Stonehenge. Right. In just a few minutes we'll be pulling up at the entrance, so make sure you have all your valuables with you. And please don't be late getting back. If you have any problems, just call me.

One possible version:
Finally, that October, I spotted the apartment of my dreams in a new home in a nice neighborhood. The place had a stainless-steel refrigerator and a microwave oven. It also had central air-conditioning. What's more, the new place was close to the train and the express bus. Thus, although the apartment was a little expensive, I decided to move in. It took me a few weeks to get the place fully in order, but I remember how proud I was to show my new house to my friend, Jon, one Saturday night when he came over for dinner.
As time went on, I found myself doing more things out of my comfort zone and feeling more positive about life. I started to address being overweight. Iran regularly, which helped me lose eighty pounds. I also started to get out of my comfort zone professionally. As change upon change built up in my life, I felt like I was a different person. My life had improved in so many ways, and it all started when I moved out of my old apartment, took a risk and found a new place to spread my wings.
