    [2023·山东省高二上联考]Scial media use has been linked t depressin, especially in teenage girls. But a new study argues that the issue may be mre cmplex than experts think.
    The research invlved interviews with 10,000 teenagers in England. “Our results suggest scial media itself desn't cause harm, but that frequent use may disrupt activities that psitively impact mental health such as sleeping and exercising, while increasing expsure f yung peple t harmful cntent, particularly cyberbullying (网络欺凌),” study c­authr Russell Viner said in a statement.
    Bb Pattn, a lecturer f the University f Surrey, said this means strategies fcusing nly n reducing scial media use t imprve mental health might nt help. He said, “Building strategies t increase resilience (适应力) t cyberbullying and prmte better sleep and exercise is needed t reduce psychlgical (心理的) harm.”
    The research was cnducted by interviewing teenagers nce a year. They wuld reprt the frequency f their using scial media. Mre than three times daily was cnsidered “very frequent”. The researchers nted that they did nt capture hw much time the participants spent n these websites, which was a limitatin f the study. “Fr bys, the impact n their mental health may result frm ther reasns,” the authrs said.
    The researchers fund that, in bth sexes, very frequent scial media use was assciated with greater psychlgical harm. The effect was especially clear amng girls: The mre ften they checked scial media, the greater their psychlgical harm was.
