Online prgrams t fight depressin are already cmmercially available. While they sund efficient and cstsaving, a recent study reprts that they're nt effective, primarily because depressed patients are nt likely t engage with them r stick with them.

A team f researchers frm the University f Yrk cnducted a randmized (随机的) cntrl trial with 691 depressed patients frm 83 physician practices acrss England. The patients were split int three grups: ne grup received nly usual care frm a physician while the ther tw grups received usual care frm a physician plus ne f tw cmputerized CBT prgrams.Participants were balanced acrss the three grups fr age, sex, educatinal backgrund, severity and duratin f depressin, and use f antidepressants (抗抑郁药).
After fur mnths, the patients using the cmputerized CBT prgrams had n imprvement in depressin levels ver the patients wh were nly getting usual care frm their dctrs.
“It's an imprtant, warning nte that we shuldn't get t carried away with the idea that a cmputer system can replace dctrs and therapists,” says Chris Dwrick, a prfessr f Primary Medical Care at the University f Liverpl. “We d still need the human tuch r the human interactin, particularly when peple are depressed.”
“Being depressed can mean feeling lst in yur wn small, negative, dark wrld,” Dwrick says. Having a persn, instead f a cmputer, reach ut t yu is particularly imprtant in fighting that sense f islatin. “When yu're emtinally fragile, yu're even mre in need f a caring human being,” he says.
