Imagine flying from Tokyo to Paris, enjoying first-class travel,a four-course dinner and a city tour—all without leaving the ground. This is the future of air travel according to Japanese company First Airlines, which has used the power of virtual reality to create dream vacations.
Passengers avoid the costly airport transfer, the baggage fees or busy airport terminal(航站楼)—and instead enjoy the privileges of business or first-class travel and an expensive tour of Paris—all while remaining motionless in Tokyo. As well as Paris,First Airlines also offers the virtual destinations of New York,Rome and Hawaii.
After boarding, guests can settle down for the two-hour flight on their advanced Airbus seat-surrounded by decoration that is modeled on the inside of an aircraft, for maximum realism. There is flight service and VR,foods, music for every destination.Passengers will be served a delicious meal by air stewards, alongside drinks and other desserts. The menu depends on the destination of choice—Manhattan clam chowder(蛤蜊杂烩汤) and cheesecake for New York and salmon and onion soup for Paris. After landing at the destination, guests can enjoy a 360-degree tour of the destination—all thanks to projection(投影) mapping and video.
It makes for a supposedly stress-free vacation, perfect for those whose ability to travel abroad is limited by cost or health.Virtual reality is becoming increasingly present everywhere at all times in the world of travel—allowing travellers to appreciate the wonders of the world, all without leaving their houses.
At just 4,980 yen($46) for business class and 5,980 yen($56) for first class—these two-hour flights are far more affordable than their real-life flights.

There’s no doubt that one of the greatest human achievements is space exploration.Ever since Yuri Gagarin became the first person to be sent into the orbit around the moon in 1961,scientists have been pushing the boundaries further and further. But until now the exploration into the unknown has been dominated(主导) by men.
Of course,in the past, women were also included in the space projects and played an active role on the ground and behind the scenes. For example, they worked as seamstresses(女裁缝师),sewing vital spaceflight components. In fact, many of NASA’s key works would never have been possible without them.Hollywood produced a movie to focus on a group of American female mathematicians, especially the black women, who helped NASA send the first American into space. But this was not women’s only contribution.Back in 1963,Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to be sent into space. However, after that, space flight programmes were slow to employ women. In the USA,NASA didn’t accept applications from women to become astronauts until 1978.
But attitudes have changed. The leading officials at NASA say that the first person to set foot on Mars should be a woman. The space agency aims to have a sex-balanced workforce but can only achieve that if equal numbers of men and women are trained for science and technology jobs.As Allison McIntryre said,“My director is a woman. We have female astronauts. We haven’t put a woman on the moon yet.And I think that perhaps the first person to step on Mars should be a woman.”
4.What did Yuri Gagarin do in 1961?
A.He landed on the moon in success.
    B.He discovered many new boundaries.
C.He led scientists to explore the moon.
D.He made the first journey into space.
5.Why does the author mention a movie?
A.To show women are the true heroes of NASA’s first launch.
B.To stress that black people have won equal rights in NASA.
C.To prove women can do as well as men in NASA’s projects.
D.To present women’s contributions to NASA’s space programmes.
HollywoodproducedamovietofocusonagroupofAmericanfemalemathematicians,especiallytheblackwomen,whohelpedNASAsendthefirstAmericanintospace.”
6.What is Allison McIntryre’s attitude toward women astronauts?
    A.Uncaring. B.Disapproving.
    C.Supportive. D.Disappointed.

7.What is the best title for the text?
A.Will the first person to step on Mars be a woman?
B.Great achievements have been made in space exploration
C.Why men played an important role in exploring the unknown?
D.Men and women have made equal contributions to NASA’s projects
    答案:A
TheleadingofficialsatNASAsaythatthefirstpersontosetfootonMarsshouldbeawoman.Thespaceagencyaimstohaveasex-balancedworkforcebutcanonlyachievethatifequalnumbersofmenandwomenaretrainedforscienceandtechnologyjobs.” 故选A项。

If you are ever planning to buy a telescope and want to get yourself involved in astronomy,it is always a good idea to know a bit of the sky.Get acquainted with a few constellations(星座) so that it will be easier for you to spot the constellations when you are using your telescope.
It’s a good idea to buy a few magazines on astronomy to help you to get familiar with the constellations in the sky and also read a few reviews on the different types of telescopes in the market. This will help you gather all the information about telescopes and what people have to say about them.
It’s advisable to go in for a pair of binoculars(双筒望远镜) before you buy your first telescope so that you can get used to spotting constellations before your view of the sky is narrowed down. This will also help you know if you really want to get involved in astronomy. Many people buy a costly telescope and then discover that they’re not actually interested in astronomy.
Experience has no substitute, and there certainly is nothing better than using different telescopes before you buy one. This will help you to get the feel of all the types of telescopes and you will know which one is easier for you to use.A large aperture(光圈) refractor(折射) may give you an excellent image but you may not be able to keep a steady hand while using it resulting in an unclear image.
There are three types of telescopes that are available in the market. If you want a more elegant looking telescope you can always choose to buy a fine brass telescope. It’s good to become acquainted with each type before going for the plunge of a first telescope. The first type of telescope is the refractor telescope, which uses lenses(镜片) to gather light to a focus at the eye piece. The use of lenses helps the telescope have a superior image.A refracting telescope is not as portable as the other two types of telescopes and so you will have to buy one with a small aperture.
The second type of telescope is the Reflector. This telescope functions by focusing the light back at the front of the tube, which is where the eyepiece sits,by using parabolic(抛物线的) mirrors and another smaller mirror to deflect the light. There is no added colour in the image caused by refraction of light since this telescope does not use lenses. These are the cheapest of all telescopes and are more portable than refractors.
8.According to the text,a telescope is intended to be bought for .
    A.getting experience
    B.watching stars
    C.studying the climate
D.learning about a bit of the sky
9.What can we learn from paragraph 2?
A.One must know something about astronomy and telescopes.
B.One can’t buy a telescope without buying several astronomy magazines.
C.One should check the telescopes in the market and try to find a better one.
D.One must be familiar with new information of astronomy and space instruments.
    答案:A

C.It has clear images without any lenses.
D.It is not convenient to take along for its size.

A home science experiment took the world by storm. Two teens from Toronto,in Canada, sent a Lego man rising above Earth and captured their tiny astronaut’s trip on film.
Mathew Ho and Asad Muhammad used a weather balloon to launch their plastic lego model 16 miles above Earth. This is inside a part of Earth’s atmosphere.
The two teens were inspired by a similar project performed by students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT).The MIT students had launched a weather balloon with a camera into near space and taken many unusual images of Earth.Mathew and Asad then spent four months figuring out how to launch their own spacecraft into space.
Travelling to space is expensive for NASA,but Mathew and Asad worked hard to keep their costs down. They bought much of their equipment used and even sewed the Lego man’s parachute(降落伞) by hand.In total, the project cost only $400.
“We had a lot of anxiety on launch day because there were high winds when we were going up,” Mathew told reporters. They had to pump extra helium(氦) into the balloon so that it would rise quickly and avoid being blown too far off course by the strong winds.
The toy astronaut’s journey lasted 97 minutes before the balloon broke and he fell back to Earth.Mathew and Asad then spent two weekends looking for their spacecraft. It had landed 76 miles away from the launch site.
“I guess the sky is not really the limit anymore,” Mathew told reporters.“We never knew we’d get this far. It’s been a lesson for us that hard work pays off.”

Making predictions is tricky, especially about the future,as physicist Niels Bohr joked. In science fiction, you can’t escape that 22 though.Since its birth in the 19th century, writers have 23 imagined the things to come:devices that humankind will invent to make life easier. But in so many instances, those promises have not come to pass. The biggest 24 are in travel—jet packs, hoverboards and flying cars are yet to fill the skies.Air travel has become significantly cheaper and wide-reaching,but only using distinctly 20th-century technology:commercial aeroplanes are much the same as they were 50 years ago.
25 is what science fiction frequently delivers, but its arrival in the real world has been unpredictable.Domestic robots with a degree of intelligence are yet to 26 ,though robotic vacuum cleaners are commercially available—even if they are fairly hopeless.Video calls have now arrived—sort of—but conferencing on Skype is still dissatisfying. In mobiles, video call technology is now available,so when your dad rings to update you on his vegetable patch,he’ll be able to 27 your look of boredom.
The truth is that we quickly 28 the astonishment of invention:our wonderment is soon replaced with the feeling of nothing new.We should try to stay in that period of 29 .It is astonishing that the contents of every book ever written can be stored in a small box.Or that you can carry 10,000 albums on an object kept in your pocket.Or that almost all the information in the world can be accessed almost anywhere at any time. All these 30 are dependent on the emergence of the microchip and its place in computers.Yet science fiction didn’t 31 the dominance of the computer in running our lives.
But the real area where 32 far outstrips(超越) predictions is medicine.Sure, fiction would describe humans as “disease-free” but without going into detail.“Disease-free” humans are still absent, but the progress made in 33 life is breathtaking. With relative ease,we can sequence anyone’s genome(基因组),giving a read—out of our entire genetic code. This means we can find out the underlying genetic cause of thousands of diseases in minutes.
Photosensitive implants now exist that can replace damaged cells in the retina(视网膜) and can, thus 34 sight to the blind. While the inventions of science fiction can show great ideas we’d like to happen, nothing 35 the inventiveness of people in the real world.

Recently our class had a heated discussion about whether it is important to protect the cultural heritage. We hold different views on it.
80% of us think it important to protect the cultural heritage. The cultural heritage is a symbol of splendid ancient civilisation which can make us feel proud of our nation. However, the others don’t think so,arguing that protecting the cultural heritage cannot promote the development of society. They think that it is a waste of time and money.
In my opinion,it’s our duty to take more effective measures to protect our cultural heritage and we can benefit a lot from the cultural and historical inspirations it conveys.

As people lose weight, their moods improve.Or in turn—as their moods improve, they lose weight. As their moods improve and they lose weight, they cut their risk in half for a whole host of illnesses, from heart disease to diabetes(糖尿病),in part because they are more positive in taking good care of themselves. Moreover, the link goes further than that:increase their happiness and lower their stress, such as hydrocortisone(皮质醇),and the inflammatory(炎症性的) processes associated with disease.Lower stress means people sleep better, think more clearly and have more energy, which are all factors that help them lose weight and stay happy.
Additionally, people with sunny outlooks are more likely to choose healthy foods, which in turn fuel their good moods. They are less likely to get sick;they recover more quickly if they do get sick;they live longer—more than 7 and possibly up to 10 years longer—and they are healthier in those extra years than people who are either depressed or overweight. It works in turn, too.People who choose foods known to improve mood find it easier to lose weight, cope with stress and sleep better.
The opposite is also true. When people are overweight, they are most likely to feel dull, tired and depressed. They turn to food—typically the wrong ones, which add more weight and stress, disturb their sleep and drop their mood even further.Poor sleep habits,in turn, increase the risk for being overweight. Some studies found that the risk has increased by up to 70%.It’s no surprise that people who are sad or downright depressed are twice as likely to be overweight;people who are overweight are twice as likely to become depressed and anxious. They are more likely to suffer other mental health problems. For example,a potbelly(大肚腩) at age 50 are more than triples the risk for dementia, which hits the senior years! Those people are also at highest risk for atherosclerosis(动脉粥样硬化),diabetes, high blood pressure, memory loss, osteoporosis(骨质疏松) and dementia.

When we lose weight, our spirits will become high, which in turn inspire us to become more slim.Because of the high spirits and good figure,we seldom get ill.On the contrary,if we are overweight,we will become unhappy and turn to junk foods, which contribute to our overweight. It further results in illness.
