high和tall都表示“高”。
1) tall身材的高度
*一般用于人和动物
*反义词: short
e.g. Li Ping is taller than Wei Fang. 李平比魏芳个子高。
2) high一般表示物体的高度
*反义词: low
3) tall与high指tree, building, tower (塔)等的高度,但mountain只能用high。
e.g. Can you see the high wall? 你能看见那堵高墙吗?
The big tree is about ten meters high. 那棵大树约有十米高。
3. Sally is thin and of medium height. Sally很瘦,中等身材。
thin adj. 瘦的
• 反义词: fat 胖的
• thin 薄的 (反义词为thick “厚的”)
e.g. She looks very thin and weak.
她看上去很瘦, 而且虚弱。
There is a thin book on the desk.
课桌上有一本很薄的书。
4. We’re meeting at seven, right? 我们七点见,对吗?
right对吗,是吧,用来表示对此前陈述内容进行确认和核实。全句
为Is that right? 口语中常用不完整的句子表达意见或想法。
5. …, but I may be a little late. ……,但我可能得晚点。
adj. 小的;年幼的,幼小的。
e.g. a little box; my little brother
不定代词,少量的。与不可数名词连用,表示否定意义,e.g. little money 几乎没钱。
【拓展】a little 一些;少许, 后跟不可数名词。
e.g. There’s a little meat in the bowl. 碗里有一点肉。
few adj. 后跟可数名词复数,表示否定意义。
a few有些;几个,后跟可数名词复数。有肯定意义。
e.g. few students 几乎没有学生;a few people 少数人。
【语境应用】写出划线部分的汉语意思。

glass作“玻璃”讲时,是不可数名词;作“玻璃杯”讲时, 为可数名词;而glasses则是“眼镜”之意。
e.g. Glass is broken easily.
玻璃很易碎。
There’s no water in your glass.
你的杯子里没有水了。
Does she wear glasses? 她戴眼镜吗?
7. He isn’t tall or short. 他不高也不矮。
英语在受到否定概念限定的部分中一般不用and, 而用or。
e.g. I don’t have any brothers or sisters.
我没有兄弟和姐妹。
在以上这种用法中,or相当于and not。
e.g. Sophie never cleans or even offers to wash the dishes.
=Sophie never cleans and does not even offer to wash the dishes.
索菲从不打扫房间,甚至从不主动洗碗。

一、描述人物外貌的问句
询问人物外貌时,我们常用“What + do / does + 主语+look like?”这一句型。 其中,助动词用do还是does取决于主语人称和数的变化:当主语是第三人称单数或单数名词时,用does;当主语是其他人称或复数名词时,用do。如:
What does your sister look like?
你姐姐长什么样?
What do her parents look like?
她父母长什么样?
二、常用来描述人物外貌的句型:
① 主语 + is / are + 形容词. (用以描述身高、体格)
常见的词: height: tall, short, of medium height
build(体格): thin, heavy
② 主语 + has / have +名词短语.(用以描述头发、脸型、五官)
常见的词: hair: short, long, straight, curly, long straight, curly short, blonde,
black, brown …
③ wear+名词 (用语描述眼镜、配饰、衣着)
三、选择疑问句
选择疑问句是指说话人提出两种或两种以上的情况,让对方做出选择的疑问句。其表现形式可以是一般疑问句形式,也可以是特殊疑问句形式,选项之间要用连词or连接。
e.g. —Are you a Chinese girl or a Japanese girl?
你是中国女孩还是日本女孩?
—I’m a Chinese girl.
我是中国女孩。
一般疑问句形式的选择疑问句:一般疑问句 + or + 一般疑问句。后一问句常用省略结构,省去意义上与前句相同的部分。其答语不能用yes或no,而要做出具体答复。
e.g. 1. —Is your bike new or (is your bike) old?
—It’s new.
2. —Can he come today or (can he come) tomorrow?
—He can come today.
特殊疑问句形式的选择疑问句:特殊疑问句 + 选项A + or + 选项B。其答语也是要根据选项做出具体答复。
e.g. 1. —Where are you from, America or England?
—I am from America.
2. —How can we get to the post office, by bus or by bike?
—By bus.

each既可作形容词,也可作代词,一般指两个或两个以上的人或物中的“每一个”。
作形容词时,用于单数名词前,后接单数动词。
作代词时,可跟of连用,后接复数名词或代词,但谓语动词通常用单数。

every“每个”,只作形容词,指三个或三个以上的人或物中的“每一个”。
“every one of+复数名词或代词” “……中的每一个”。
【语境应用】选词填空
every, each, is, has

3. Many people don’t always see things the same way so they may describe the same person differently.
人们并非总是以同样的方式看待事物,所以他们会将同一个人描述得不一样。
1) same和different是一对反义词,前者表示“相同的,同样的”,后者表示“不同的;有区别的。”
same作为形容词时往往用在名词前,且之前往往有定冠词the。例如:
the same way
相同的方法;同样的路子;同样的方式
the same person
同样的人;同一个人
2) differently是different的副词形式,在句中修饰动词,表示“不同地;有区别地”。
3) people和person
people表示“人,人们”,为复数名词;person为单个的人,有复数形式。
two persons 两个人

他是一个非常不错的人。
There are a lot of people in the park on the weekend.
周末公园里有很多人。
4. Also, they don’t always remember well.
而且他们的记性并不总是牢靠。
当also用于句首时,其后往往有逗号与 句子其他部分隔开。这时,also用于修饰整个句子,相当于汉语的“同时;还;而且”。
e.g. Mr. Feng’s class is interesting. Also, he makes it easy to understand.
冯老师的课很有趣,而且非常好理解。
also也常表示“也”,往往位于be动词或情态动词后,行为动词前。
e.g. My father can speak English. He can also speak French.
我爸爸会说英语,也会讲法语。
5. Another woman says, “He is tall and thin, and he has curly blond hair.
另一位妇女说:“他又高又瘦,长着卷曲的黄头发。”
another adj.,指的是不确定数目中的“另一个”, 意为:①“另一;不同的”,如another time (其他时间);②“再一;又一”,如another apple (再来一个苹果)。
【链接】
other adj. “另外的;其他的”,后常接复数名词,表示泛指。
the other 两个之中的“另一个”,常与one搭配使用。

作形容词时,用于单数名词前,后接单数动词。
作代词时,可跟of连用,后接复数名词或代词,但谓语动词通常用单数。

3. Many people don’t always see things the same way so they may describe the same person differently.
人们并非总是以同样的方式看待事物,所以他们会将同一个人描述得不一样。
1) same和different是一对反义词,前者表示“相同的,同样的”,后者表示“不同的;有区别的。”
same作为形容词时往往用在名词前,且之前往往有定冠词the。例如:
the same way
相同的方法;同样的路子;同样的方式
the same person
同样的人;同一个人
2) differently是different的副词形式,在句中修饰动词,表示“不同地;有区别地”。
3) people和person
people表示“人,人们”,为复数名词;person为单个的人,有复数形式。

周末公园里有很多人。
4. Also, they don’t always remember well.
而且他们的记性并不总是牢靠。
当also用于句首时,其后往往有逗号与 句子其他部分隔开。这时,also用于修饰整个句子,相当于汉语的“同时;还;而且”。
e.g. Mr. Feng’s class is interesting. Also, he makes it easy to understand.
冯老师的课很有趣,而且非常好理解。
also也常表示“也”,往往位于be动词或情态动词后,行为动词前。
e.g. My father can speak English. He can also speak French.

5. Another woman says, “He is tall and thin, and he has curly blond hair.
另一位妇女说:“他又高又瘦,长着卷曲的黄头发。”
another adj.,指的是不确定数目中的“另一个”, 意为:①“另一;不同的”,如another time (其他时间);②“再一;又一”,如another apple (再来一个苹果)。
