(山东省临沂市2022届高三下学期2月一模考试)A letter written to a 12-year-old girl in Lithuania was delivered in December, almost 51 years after it was sent by a pen pal in Poland. “I thought that someone was pranking me,” said Genovefa Klonovska after being handed the letter, which included a handmade colored rose and two paper dolls.
The letter, together with 17 others, fell out of a ventilation hole(通风口) this summer, dirty and wrinkled, as a wall was taken down in a former post office on the suburb of Vilnius. Jurgis Vilnius, owner of the building immediately called the post office. “I’m so happy they got interested,” said he.
Street names and their numbering have changed in Vilnius, and post office workers spent months looking for the right houses and talking to current renters and neighbours, tracking down where the recipients moved to. Only five were found. In several cases children of late recipients were handed a lost letter.
“We felt a moral duty to do this,” said Deimante Zebrauskaite, head of the customer experience department at Lithuania Post.
One lady compared the experience to receiving a message from a bottle thrown into sea. People were emotional. “Some felt they saw a part of daily life of their deceased parents,” Zebrauskaite said.
In the letter to Klonovska, sent from Koezary in Poland and stamped in 1970, a girl named Ewa complains buses no longer reach her village, so she has to walk in minus 23 degree Celsius cold, and asks for pictures of actors.
Now in her 60s, Klonovska has no memory of Ewa. She probably wrote Ewa after finding her address advertising for pen pals in a newspaper, and the relationship ceased after the letter got undelivered.
“So good that the letter didn’t matter much. The loss was not life-changing,” said Klonovska.“What if they delivered a lost letter from a suitor(求婚者) to his love, and their wedding never happened.”
5.What does the underlined word “pranking” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Brightening. B.Embarrassing.
C.Tricking. D.Pleasing.
6.What happened to the letters in Paragraph 2?
A.They were accidentally found.
B.They remained well-preserved.
C.They were delivered by the former post office.
D.They were hidden by the owner of the building.
7.Which of the following best describes the present post office in Vilnius?
A.Generous. B.Dutiful.
C.Honest. D.Cautious.
8.What can we learn from what Klonovska said?
A.Klonovska refused a suitor.
B.Klonovska stopped the wedding.
C.The undelivered letter ruined the relationship.
D.The undelivered letter maybe made little difference to her.

根据画线词前的“A letter written to a 12-year-old girl in Lithuania was delivered in December, almost 51 years after it was sent by a pen pal in Poland.” 结合选项和女孩的话“I thought that someone was pranking me”可推知,画线词pranking的意思是“欺骗;捉弄”。
根据第三段的内容及第四段中的“We felt a moral duty to do this.”

(2022届广西南宁市高三毕业班摸底测试)Being an Olympian(奥运会选手) demands focus, determination, and a competitive spirit. Plus, representing your country is a lot of pressure. However, two athletes recently showed the world another quality that is definitely worth championing.
Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim and Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi were competing in the high jump on Sunday when they reached a stalemate(僵局). Both men had managed to jump over a surprising 2.37 meters with no faults along the way. However, after three attempts neither managed the next level of 2.39 meters.
An Olympic official suggested a jump-off between the two friends and rivals(竞争对手) to determine who would get the gold medal. But Barshim had another plan to reward their efforts.
“Can we have two golds?” he asked the official.
The official agreed and the two men jumped for joy. This was the first time a gold medal had been shared since 1912. “He is one of my best friends, not only on the track, but outside the track. We work together. This is a dream come true”, shared Barshim.
The decision to share the medal was particularly meaningful to Tamberi. The Italian had suffered an ankle injury that prevented him from competing in the Rio Olympics in 2016, and it nearly put an end to his career altogether. So this year he brought along his cast to this year’s Olympics with “Road to Tokyo 2021” to inspire him along the way.
For Barshim, the gold has topped off his already impressive medal collection, having received a bronze and a silver medal in 2012 and 2016 respectively.
Despite all the glory of receiving a gold medal for their countries, their achievement means so much more. These two individuals, trying to do their very best for their countries, have provided a wonderful example to all those competing in sports. They’ve summed up exactly what it means to take part in a global event with a generous and compassionate spirit.
9.What happened to Barshim and Tamberi in the competition?
A.They ended in a tie.
B.They quit the competition.
C.They set a new record.
D.They ran out of strength.
10.What does the underlined word “jump-off” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Debate. B.Vote.
C.Celebration. D.Extra round.
11.Why was the gold medal particularly meaningful to Tamberi?
A.It could bring him a lot of money.
B.It may make up for his regret in 2016.
C.It was a glory for his country.
D.It could complete his medal collection.
12.What does the author mainly want to convey in the text?
A.The importance of sharing.
B.The glory of winning gold medals.
C.The valuable and special team spirit.
D.The considerate and sharing Olympic spirit.

根据第二段中提到两人打成平局和第三段中的“to determine who would get the gold medal”可知,奥运会官员建议他们“jump-off”,即加赛决胜负。故选D项。

(2022届广东省实验中学9月月考)Beginning with Chinese efforts to explore and connect with Central Asia, the Silk Road consisted of massive small routes and was named after the silk cloth the Chinese produced. 1 Through these routes, Chinese silk, porcelain, lacquer work and ironware were shipped to the West, while pepper, flax, spices, grape and pomegranate entered China.
2 They promoted flow of knowledge as well. Arab astronomy, calendar and medicine found their way to China, while China’s four great inventions and silkworm breeding spread to other parts of the world. 3 For example, Buddhism originated in India, blossomed in China and was enriched in Southeast Asia. Confucianism, which was born in China, gained appreciation by European thinkers such as Leibniz and Voltaire. Herein lies the appeal of mutual learning.
The ancient silk routes witnessed the busy scenes of visits and trade over land and ships calling at ports. Along these major routes, capital, technology and people flowed freely. 4 The ancient prosperous cities and ports developed, so did the Roman Empire as well as Parthia and Kushan Kingdoms. The Han and Tang Dynasties of China entered the golden age. The ancient silk routes brought prosperity to these regions and contributed to their development.
Some regions along the ancient Silk Road used to be a land of milk and honey. Yet today, these places are often associated with conflict, crisis and challenge. 5 Now, the Belt and Road Initiative intends to build an open platform of cooperation and a broad community of shared interests. It will not only achieve economic growth and balanced development, but also connect different civilizations. Mutual understanding, mutual respect, and mutual trust among different countries will be boosted.
A.More importantly ideas were also exchanged.
B.The ancient silk routes were not only for trade.
C.Goods, resources and benefits were widely shared.
D.Such state of affairs should not be allowed to continue.
E.However, silk was just one of many goods traded on these routes.
F.Large empires provided stability and protection for the trade routes.
G.The Silk Road was never an actual road, or even a single massive trade route.

2.B 后一句“as well”表示递进关系,“not only”与“as well”相关联。 They指代 “the ancient silk routes”。
3.A 空后举例Buddhism(佛教)、Confucianism(儒家思想)说明丝绸之路上观念的交流。
D项中“such state of affairs”指代上一句中陈述的状况。
