Those novels (小说) help her do well in writing. She thinks the classics are part of her life. She can’t live without them. She has read 25 classics. As for me, I have read Alice in Wonderland, Tom Sawyer and Robinson Crusoe.
-John, 13 years old
Reading the classics is good for us. Some classics such as Oliver Twist, Treasure Island, Tom Sawyer and Little Women are good books. I have read all of them. But if students spend too much time reading the classics, they won’t get good grades, either.

Dear friends,
I have a younger brother. I like him, but sometimes I feel unhappy when my parents give him more attention (注意力) than me. Though younger children need more care, I also want my parents’ attention. Am I wrong for feeling this way?
Li Ping
Dear Li Ping,
Having a younger brother or sister is not easy. It is common for older brothers or sisters to feel this way, just like you. However, younger children do need more care. As your little brother grows older, this will change and your parents will treat (对待) you the same. But for now, he will need a little more attention from your parents.
Think of this as a chance (机会) to become more independent. You can learn to live without getting as much attention from your parents—you’ll move out of the home someday anyway, so you might get used to it as well.
Mike
Dear Li Ping,
I’m 13 years old. Our family welcomed a baby girl three years ago—I got a younger sister! From then on, I was not the only child of my family anymore. But believe it or not, I’m happy about that, because I have more freedom (自由) to do things on my own. Maybe you can look at this the same way as I do. Brothers and sisters should help each other and play together. I often take care of my sister when my parents are not at home. It teaches me how to be a good brother.
Zhang Ming
49. Why does Li Ping feel unhappy?
A. Because she is always wrong. B. Because she does not like her brother.
C. Because she has to take care of her brother. D. Because she gets less attention from her parents.
50. Which may Mike agree with?
A. Younger children need more care. B. Younger children should take care of each other.
C. It is common to have a younger sister or brother. D. Parents should take care of older children more.
51. Why does Zhang Ming feel happy to have a sister?
A. Because he doesn’t have to study hard. B. Because he feels free to do his own things.
C. Because he can get more attention from his parents. D. Because he can become the only child of his family.

书面表达 Sample one:
Should We Take After-school Classes ?
Good morning, everyone! I think it’s necessary for us to take after-school classes.
Firstly, most of us can’t make good use of our time. We usually watch TV or play computer games. That’s a waste of time. Secondly, when we have problems doing homework, nobody can help us at home. Thirdly, it’s important to get into a good university. We can learn more knowledge to get into a good high school and later a good university.
Thank you!
Sample Two:
Should We Take After-school Classes?
Good morning, everyone! In my opinion, it is not good for us to take after-school classes.
Firstly, it can cause a lot of stress for us. We are very tired at school. We should have time to relax. If we have too much pressure, it will be bad for our development. Secondly, our parents usually compare us with others. I think it’s normal for parents to want successful children, but it’s even more important to have happy children. So I don’t think it’s good for us to take after-school classes.
Thank you!
