Step1: Self-study | Assignment before class: Preview the text and think about the questions below the material. Write the answers down on textbook P54. | Read the text carefully and answer the questions. | This step is aimed at helping students get more familiar with the writing material and accelerating the class process. | ||||
Step2: Cooperation and instruction | Lead-in: In the reading part we have learned a terrible earthquake that happened in China. It’s an earthquake on the land. But do you know that there are also earthquakes happening in the sea? What terrible results will be caused by the earthquakes happening in the sea? | Think about the questions and some of students are invited to answer the questions individually. | Connect the writing part with the reading part. Arouse students’ interest in getting to know more about the class. | ||||
Pre-writing Understanding the text: Divided students in groups of 4. Students are to check and discuss about the comprehension questions below the material. Step3: Practice | While-writing:
| Write a summary of the text “The Night the Earth Didn’t Sleep”, following the guidance on textbook, including all the main points and strictly obey the writing features. | The step is aimed at helping students put the theories they have learned into practical use. | ||||
Step4: Editing | Post-writing Edit your summary first and then hand it to me. | Edit the summary according to the checklist in Part3 on P55. Then hand it to teachers for further polishing. | This step is designed to develop students’ ability to examine language accuracy and polish their writing product. | ||||
