People are often surprised by my fear of blood and needles. Working in a public health unit, I probably have more daily interaction with syringes (注射器) than the average person. But the truth is, having my blood drawn scares me.
When I was 9, I had an extremely high temperature. A nurse rudely stuck the needle into my arm, causing a sharp pain. I avoided having blood taken from my body for the next years. A few months before I turned 30, my doctor ordered a blood test as part of my physical exam. I panicked. Sensing my fear, she gently suggested I see a psychiatrist “Dr. M helped my other patients with the same fear,” she said.
When Dr. M called to set up an appointment, I hesitated. Talking about personal problems to a medically licensed stranger was uncommon in my family. “A psychiatrist?” Mother asked. “He’ll just put you on drugs. Can’t you get over this yourself?” I almost listened. But I went to Dr. M’s clinic finally. “Phobias (恐惧症) are pretty easy to treat,” he said. I wasn’t convinced of his words. But despite my doubts, I was running out of options.
We started with basic exposure treatment. I watched videos of blood being drawn every day. As I started to feel more at ease with needles, Dr. M suggested drawing blood. As he gently pressed the needle into my flesh, I felt dizzy and breathed deeply. After a few minutes, I looked at the needle. It wasn’t so bad. I didn’t pass out. “You’re doing well,” Dr. M said.
I still find it unpleasant getting blood drawn, but thanks to several months of treatment, I’m less scared. I hate to admit it, but Dr. M is right — phobias can be treated. Sometimes, we have to leave our comfort zone and face our fears. And this can lead to freedom in the end.
4. What caused the author’s phobia?
A. Her sensitivity to pains.
B. Her anxiety about the blood test.
C. Her bad medical experience.
D. Her regular contact with syringes.
5. What was the author’s mother’s attitude toward her appointment with Dr. M?
A. Conservative. B. Disapproving.
C. Supportive. D. Objective.
6. What can we know about the author’s treatment?
A. It cost the author a great deal of money.
B. It eased the author’s pain totally.
C. It centered on watching videos.
D. It was smoother than expected.
7. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Bravery brings us a happier life
B. Walk toward what scares us
C. Ups and downs make one strong
D. Nurse our mental health carefully
C 5. B 6. D 7. B

Book clubs are no longer limited to living rooms, and bookstores offer much more than just books with a new opening up for gatherings centered around reading.
When entering Hearthfire Books and Treats in Evergreen, shoppers are greeted by a bright green wall of frozen yogurt machines and a topping bar.
Owner Kappy Kling believes she has created more than just a store but a space for community. Kling sees many bookstores modifying their business models to attract new customers. “Bookstores over the years, with changes, have adapted by adding different things for engagement, especially smaller ones,” she said. “So for us, the frozen yogurt was a big one of those.”
Hearthfire attracts a big afterschool crowd from the local schools, and Kling enjoys providing a safe place for kids to hang out, have a snack and read.
Creating reading community is also a central focus at BookBar on Tennyson Street in Denver. Nearly nine years ago, Nicole Sullivan was wishing she could have a book club meeting anywhere besides someone’s living room, and from that thought, BookBar was born. The popular bookstore offers wine, coffee and small plates to enjoy while leading and browsing books. Beyond just book club meetings, Sullivan says the shop sees a lot of girls’ nights, professional meetings and remote work.
While he may not have changed his business model, Topp does devote much of his time to reading to his customers. Topp founded Read Me a Story, Ink after reading to children in public schools for nearly 30 years. His website features recordings of Topp reading stories aloud and over a thousand stories for others to read and children can make comments and exchange opinions. He also has a podcast (播客) available on major platforms that feature him reading stories fit for the classroom, bedtime and more.
8. What does the underlined word “one” in paragraph 3 probably refer to?
A. Thing. B. Customer. C. Change. D. Model.
9. What was Sullivan’s earlier dream?
A. Reading more books.
B. Opening a reading club.
C. Setting up a reading website.
D. Getting more collectable books.
10. What do the three bookstores have in common?
A. They begin to sell e-books.
B. They offer free coffee and tea.
C. They’re changing their business model.
D They are trying to create reading community.
11. What is mainly talked about in the text?
A. Traditional bookstores are still popular.
B. Many bookstores appear in the world.
C. Book clubs are appearing in a new form.
D. Bookstores focus on new ways to reach readers.
A 9. B 10. D 11. D

根据第三段“Owner Kappy Kling believes she has created more than just a store but a space for community. Kling sees many bookstores modifying their business models to attract new customers. “Bookstores over the years, with changes, have adapted by adding different things for engagement, especially smaller ones,” she said. (店主Kappy Kling认为,她创造的不仅仅是一家商店,而是一个社区空间。Kling看到许多书店修改了他们的商业模式以吸引新顾客。她说:“多年来,书店随着变化而适应,增加了不同的东西,使之参与进来,尤其是较小的书店”。)”可知,此处描述书店增加了不同的东西来吸引顾客。由此可推知,one指代“那些新增的东西中的一个”。故选A。

It’s uncertain when many offices may reopen, but it’s clear the virtual work revolution that began with the pandemic isn’t going away.
Alexia Cambon, research director at Gartner, says finding the right combination of in-person and virtual work will take creativity and experimentation. Managing director Deborah Lovich stresses that companies should consider that flexibility is not only about location, but also about the hours employees work.
Alexia also points out the importance of finding solutions for a whole team. “What COVID-19 taught us is that flex work cannot be for an individual. It has to be for the team,” she says. “When the whole team is together online versus a whole team together in person,it works.”
Progressive organizations are also reconsidering their workplace culture. “They’re thinking about changing culture and leadership to be much more trust-based, impact-based, instead of input-based,like,I see you,so I think you’re productive,’ compared to, ‘Wow, I see what you’ve accomplished, and I know you’ve been productive,””Lovich says.
Lovich sees remote work as a “win-win” for cmployees who get more flexibility and employers who can hire people from anywhere in the country or even the world. She views it as creating equality in terms of allowing small towns to attract talent and offering more opportunity for women to climb the corporate ladder without having to relocate their families, something that she says often takes a back seat in a dual-career houschold.
Companies that require a return to a fully on-site model could lose one in three employees.Lovich agrees that employers need to be careful. “It’s an employee’s market right now. The world is short of workers, and because of that we should really think about what we need and feel confident and courageous to speak up. And a lot of companies are getting that, and so it’s a real opportunity to either shape the place you work to be the place it needs to be or go someplace else that does,”Lovich says.“For decades,we’ve been contorting(扭曲)our lives to fit around work, and COVID-19 forced work to fit around lives.”
12. What does Alexia emphasize according to the text?
A. How to make virtual work go away soon.
B. How to create virtual work cooperatively.
C. How to combine virtual work with science.
D. How to find the best location for virtual work
13. Why do progressive organizations change their workplace culture?
A. To take control of the development of virtual work.
B. To compare company culture with firm leadership.
C. To make employees feel trusted and develop positively.
D. To persuade more companies to choose virtual work soon.
14. What does Lovich think of virtual work?
A. It is attractive to all employees. B. It is just beneficial to employers.
C. It is popular among small firms. D. It benefits both bosses and workers.
15. What does the author mainly want to tell us?
A. Virtual work is here to stay. B. Advantages of virtual work.
C. Be far away from flexibility. D. A“win-win“ change for business.
B 13. C 14. D 15. A
根据文章第三段“Alexia also points out the importance of finding solutions for a whole team. “What COVID-19 taught us is that flex work cannot be for an individual. It has to be for the team,” she says. When the whole team is together online versus a whole team together in person,it works.”(Alexia还指出了为整个团队寻找解决方案的重要性。“COVID-19告诉我们,弹性工作不适合个人。必须是为了团队,”她说。“当整个团队在网上进行交流,而不是整个团队面对面交流时,效果会更好。”)可知,Alexia强调了整个团队找解决方案的重要性,即就是“如何合作创建远程工作的重要性”。B项“How to create virtual work cooperatively.”(如何合作创建远程工作。)
根据文章第四段“Progressive organizations are also reconsidering their workplace culture. “They’re thinking about changing culture and leadership to be much more trust-based, impact-based, instead of input-based,like,I see you,so I think you’re productive,’ compared to, ‘Wow, I see what you’ve accomplished, and I know you’ve been productive,””Lovich says.”(进步组织也在重新考虑他们的工作场所文化。 C项“To make employees feel trusted and develop positively.”(让员工感到信任并积极发展。)
根据文章第五段“Lovich sees remote work as a “win-win” for cmployees who get more flexibility and employers who can hire people from anywhere in the country or even the world. ”(洛维奇将远程工作视为一种“双赢”,既有更灵活的员工,也有可以从全国甚至世界任何地方雇佣员工的雇主。)可知,洛维奇认为远程工作对于老板和员工都有利。D项“It benefits both bosses and workers.”(这对老板和工人都有利。)
浏览全文,根据文章中的“It’s uncertain when many offices may reopen, but it’s clear the virtual work revolution that began with the pandemic isn’t going away.”(许多办公室何时重新开放尚不确定,但很明显,始于疫情的远程工作革命不会消失。) A项“Advantages of virtual work.”(远程工作工作将继续存在。)
My Favorite Money Saving Tips
One of the things that many folks want to do is better money habits. I’m pretty good about my saving, and fairly responsible in my spending. So as many of you all probably want to “save more money” or “spend less money”, I wanted to share my saving tips with you.
Manage your debt. ____16____ If you have credit card debt, pay this down before you start doing any other savings. If you have several cards with debt, try the laddering technique. Start by paying down your debt on the highest interest card you have. Once that balance is at zero, go to the next highest percent card and so on.
____17____ Life can throw at you unexpected expenses that can easily add up quickly. One of your main savings goals should be to build an emergency fund. You should have ready-to-go-in liquid cash, 6-9 months of living expenses for a rainy day. ____18____ But don’t invest the money. Make sure you can access this money in an absolute emergency.
Spend your cash. Seems crazy but it’s true! This is especially helpful to those who tend to be impulsive (冲动的) shoppers. Figure out your monthly budget, and divide it by 4. Add this amount to your wallet each week and only spend the cash. ____19____ Studies have shown that you are less likely to break large bills or to spend less cash when you have to physically pull the cash out.
Keep your extra cash in a high yield savings account. Though it’s rare to find a bank that provides a large interest rate on savings, right now you can get 0.5% and 0.1 to 0.25% on checking. ____20____
A. Get an emergency fund.
B. Avoid unnecessary expenses.
C. Don’t touch the credit cards.
D. You must make this a priority.
E. But remember to check it from time to time.
F. It’s a great way to add a little extra income to your money.
G. This amount should be kept in your high-yield savings account.
D 17. A 18. G 19. C 20. F
由前文“Manage your debt.(管理您的债务)”和后文“If you have credit card debt, pay this down before you start doing any other savings.(如果您有信用卡债务,请在开始进行任何其他储蓄之前先偿还)”可知,横线处的句子要引出下文,指出优先处理自己的信用卡债务。D选项“你必须优先考虑这一点”中的it指代上文内容,make this a priority对应后文的before you start doing any other savings,符合语境。
根据后文“Life can throw at you unexpected expenses that can easily add up quickly. One of your main savings goals should be to build an emergency fund.(生活可能会给你带来意想不到的开销,这些费用很容易迅速增加。您的主要储蓄目标之一应该是建立应急基金)”可知,本段建议准备好流动现金以备不时之需,A选项“获得应急基金”可以作为主旨句,emergency fund是关键词。故选A项。
根据前文“You should have ready-to-go-in liquid cash, 6-9 months of living expenses for a rainy day.(你应该有现成的流动现金,6——9个月的生活费,以备不时之需)”和后文“But don’t invest the money. Make sure you can access this money in an absolute emergency.(但不要投资。确保您可以在绝对紧急情况下获得这笔钱)”可知,横线处的句子承上启下,并且和下文为转折关系,可推测横线处的句子告诫人们要把应急的钱存到银行,用的时候可以取出而不要用于投资,G选项“这笔钱应该存入你的高收益储蓄账户”符合语境,this amount指代上文 6-9 months of living expenses for a rainy day。故选G。
由前文“Figure out your monthly budget, and divide it by 4. Add this amount to your wallet each week and only spend the cash.(计算出您的每月预算,然后将其除以 4。每周将此金额添加到您的钱包中,只花现金)”和后文“Studies have shown that you are less likely to break large bills or to spend less cash when you have to physically pull the cash out.(研究表明,当您必须亲自提取现金时,您不太可能打破大额账单或花费更少的现金)”可知,横线处的句子要承接上文只花现金,不用信用卡。
由前文“Though it’s rare to find a bank that provides a large interest rate on savings, right now you can get 0.5% and 0.1 to 0.25% on checking.(虽然很少能找到一家银行提供高额储蓄利率,但现在你可以在结账时得到0.5%和0.1%到0.25%的收益) ”可知,横线处的句子要承接上文让人们把钱存进银行,虽然利息不多,但是毕竟也是在增加收入,F选项“这是给你的钱增加一点额外收入的好方法”中的a great way对应前文提到的方式,符合语境。

A total of 29 provincial regions是主动关系,应用现在分词形式。
故填which。
本句前面出现了the former(前者)与其对应的表达是the latter(后者)。故填the。
故填to be tested。
本分句中 high school and university officials said后面跟了两个宾语从句第一个是 they think the changes encourage students to learn more about the different subjects,省略了that;第二个是education officials have made progress in testing students based on their abilities,从句成分和意义都完整应用that引导,并且在宾语从句中,有两个及以上宾语从句时,第二个以及上不能省略,所以此处不能省略that。 故填that。
空后面是介词短语作后置定语,修饰前面的名词students;students with exceptional ability in the sciences and sports意为“在理科和体育方面有特殊才能的学生”。 故填with。
故填have undertaken。

Ms Hart stood in front of her class on the very first day of school and told the children a lie. Like most teachers, she looked at her students, saying that she loved them all the same, treating them all alike. And that was impossible because there in front of her, right on the third row, was a little boy named George.
Ms Hart had watched George the year before and noticed he was seldom engaged in school games, that he always wore torn dusty clothes and that he constantly needed a bath. As a whole, George was unpleasant.
When Ms Hart was required to review each child’s records, she put George’s off until last. But his file turned out a surprise. His first-grade teacher wrote, “George is a bright child with a ready augh. He is a joy to be around.”
Another teacher wrote, “George is an excellent student well-liked by his classmates, but he is troubled because his mother has a serious illness and life at home must be a struggle.” The next wrote. “George continues to work hard but his mother’s death has been hard on him. Since his father doesn’t show much interest, his home life will soon, affect him if some steps aren’t taken.”
The last record wrote, “George is silent and doesn’t show much interest in school. He doesn’t have many friends and sometimes sleeps in class. He could become a problem.”
By now Ms Hart realized the problem and Christmas was coming fast. Her children brought her presents, all in beautiful ribbon and bright paper, except for George’s, which was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper of a scissored grocery bag. Ms Hart took pains to open it in the middle of the other presents. Some of the children started to laugh when she found a toy bracelet with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that was one-quarter full of perfume. She stopped the children’s laughter when she declared how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and wearing some of the perfume behind the other wrist.
George stayed behind just long enough to say, “Ms Hart, today you smelled just like my mom used to.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
After George left, Ms Hart decided to care for him like a mother.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Many years later Ms Hart attended George’s wedding, wearing the very bracelet he gave her.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After George left, Ms Hart decided to care for him like a mother. From then on, Ms Hart paid particular attention to George. As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the faster he responded and he showed much interest in study. By the end of the year, George had become one of the excellent children in the class, which gave Ms Hart a surprise.
Many years later Ms Hart attended George’s wedding, wearing the very bracelet he gave her. She used the bracelet and the lovely perfume which were the Christmas present of that year. At the wedding ceremony, she met the man with good manners. He said to her, "Thank you, Ms Hart. Today you smelled just like my mom used to. " Ms Hart, with tears in her eyes, whispered back. She said, "George, you were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I'm so proud that today I can be your mother!"
