①并列与递进:and, or, also, neither… nor…, either…or…,likewise, similarly, equally, in the same way, that is to say ,as well as, the same „as, besides, additionally, furthermore, moreover, in addition to ,what is more
②因果:because, for, since, as, thus, hence, therefore, so, so…that, consequently, accordingly, due to, thanks to, as a result, because of, in that, for this reason, of course
③转折让步:but, however, yet, on the contrary, by contrast, on the other hand, unfortunately, while, whereas, unlike, rather than, instead of, it is true that, of course, although, though, even though, even if, nevertheless, despite, in spite of
④时间顺序:afterwards, at first, at last, finally, first, firstly, in the first place, to start with,in the meantime, last, later, next, second, secondly, then, third, thirdly, to begin with以及一些具体的时间。

Tricks To Becoming A Patient Person
Here’s a riddle: What do traffic jams, long lines and waiting for a vacation to start all have in common? There’s one answer. 36 .
In the Digital Age, we’re used to having what we need immediately and right ai our fingertips. However, research suggests that if we practiced patience, we’d be a whole lot better off. Here are several tricks.
●Practice gratitude (感激)
Thankfulness has a lot of benefits: Research shows it makes us happier, less stressed and even more optimistic. 37 . “Showing thankfulness can foster self-control,” said Ye Li, researcher at the University of California.
● Make yourself wait
Instant gratification (满足) may seem like the most “feel good” option at the time, but psychology research suggests waiting for things actually makes us happier in the long run. And the only way for us to get into the habit of waiting is to practice. 38 . Put off watching your favorite show until the weekend or wait 10 extra minutes before going for that cake. You’ll soon find that the more patience you practice, the more you start to apply it to other, more annoying situations.
● 39 .
So many of us have the belief that being comfortabel is the only state we will tolerate, and when we experience something outside of our comfort zone, we get impatient about the circumstances. You should learn to say to yourself, “ 40 .” You’ll then gradually become more patient.
A.Find your causes
B.Start with small tasks
C.Accept the uncomfortable
D.All this adds up to a state of hurry
E.It can also help us practice more patience
F.This is merely uncomfortable, not intolerable
G.They’re all situations where we could use a little extra patience

36.【答案】G
【解析】根据上文“Here’s a riddle: What do traffic jams, long lines and waiting for a vacation to start all have in common? There’s one answer.

【解析】根据上文“You should learn to say to yourself (你应该学会对自己说……)”以及后文“You’ll then gradually become more patient.

由此可知,D项“Don’t get caught making an embarrassing mistake at a restaurant (不要在餐馆犯尴尬的错误)”符合语境,其中“at a restaurant”对应标题中的“When Dining Out”,同时引起下文“Knowing some tips will help ensure that you have an enjoyable meal with friends or family — no matter where you are in the world.
根据上文“When you put them down between bites, always put them down together so they are parallel with the edge of the table in front of you. 由此可知,F项“Never stick them upright in your food or cross them as you use them (不要把它们笔直地插在你的食物中,也不要在使用它们时交叉放置)”讲述的也是使用筷子时的注意事项,符合此处语境,其中“them”指的是上文的“chopsticks”。
根据上文“In India and the Middle East, it’s considered very rude to eat with your left hand. People in France expect you to eat with a utensil in each hand. 由此可知,C项“Mexicans consider it inappropriate to eat with utensils (墨西哥人认为用餐具吃饭是不合适的)”符合语境,与下文形成转折关系。
根据下文“In Portugal, this would be a serious mistake, because it shows the chef that you don’t like their seasoning skills. Similarly, in Italy, never ask for extra cheese to add to your food. 由此可知,G项“It may seem like simple request to ask for salt and pepper at a meal (吃饭时要盐和胡椒看似很简单)”符合此处语境,其中“request”是关键词,说明,在用餐时提出一些我们看来很平常的要求在某些国家是无礼的。故选G。
40.【答案】B
【解析】根据下文“the more comfortable you’ll begin to feel with its foreign cultural practices.

Swap, Don’t shop!
You keep hearing about recycling, right? But it doesn't end with bottles, cans, and paper. Clothing takes a huge amount of natural resources(资源)to make, and buying loads of new clothing(or throwing out old clothing)is not healthy for the environment. So what to do with all those perfectly-good-but-you're-maybe-a-little-sick-of-them clothes piled on your bedroom floor? ____16____. It's the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.
A successful swap depends on the selection of clothes, the organization of the event, and, obviously, how much fun is had. It's really easy to do! Here are a few pointers.
●Invite 5—10 people so you have a nice selection. ____17____ , and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.
●____18____. They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their "new" clothes home.
●Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room.____19____. Place a few mirrors around your room so people can see how things look when they try them on. One of the ground rules of the swap should be that everyone must try on the clothes before they take them—things always look different when you put them on.
●Set a starting time. Maybe you say “go,” or turn on a certain song, or whatever. ____20____. And don't forget to put out some cookies and fruits. Remember, it's a party!
A. Less people than that
B. Hold a clothing swap
C. If two people are competing
D. Just keep music playing throughout
E. Donate whatever clothes are left over
F. Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots
G. Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition
【解析】根据上文“So what to do with all those perfectly- good-but-you 're- maybe-little-sick-of-them clothes piled on your bedroom floor?(那么,该如何处理那些堆在卧室地板上的(看起来)完好但你可能有点厌倦的衣服呢?)” 下文“It's the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.(这是扔掉旧衣服、从朋友那里买衣服、同时开派对的最好方法。)” B项“Hold a clothing swap.(进行衣物交换。)”
17.【答案】A
【解析】根据上文“Invite 5-10 people so you have a nice selection.”(邀请5到10个人,这样你就有一个很好的选择。) 下文“and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.”(可能没有足够的东西可供选择;多于这个数量,它就变得无法控制。) A项“Less people than that”(少于这些人)提出一种假设,和下文中“more than that”相对,说明人数不宜太多,也不能太少,符合语境。故选A项。
18.【答案】G
【解析】根据下文“They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their “new” clothes home.”(他们还应该准备大量的可重复使用的袋子,把他们的“新”衣服带回家。) G项“Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition.”(告诉每个人带来品相完好的衣服。)
【解析】根据上文“Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room.”(把不同类型的衣服放在房间的不同地方。) 下文“Place a few mirrors around your room so people can see how things look when they try them on.”(在房间周围放几面镜子,这样人们试穿时就能看到衣服的样子。) F项“Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots.(让每个人的衣服都放在相应的位置上。)”
【解析】上文“Set a starting time. Maybe you say “go,” or turn on a certain song, or whatever.”(设置开始时间。 下文“And don't forget to put out some cookies and fruits. Remember, it's a party!”(别忘了拿出一些饼干和水果。 D项“Just keep music playing throughout.”(要始终播放音乐。)

1.end with 以…结束
2.a huge amount of 大量的
3.do with 应对,处理

6. place v.
7. swap v.
8. ground rules
9. try on 试穿
10. in their right spots
1. It's the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.
【解析】句首it为形式主语,get rid of本意“摆脱”,引申“扔掉”。
2. One of the ground rules of the swap should be that everyone must try on the clothes before they take them—things always look different when you put them on.

Passage 1
Experience-Based Education
Everyone is familiar with traditional education. You sit in a class and a teacher teaches. This is an important part of development. But at some point, every individual has to take charge of their own education. To do this, one must look at the root of learning. 1
Basically, unfamiliar experiences usually add more value than experiences that are familiar. 2 .And you are in a better state to learn something new. Honestly, someone who never experiences the same thing twice will never have a chance to benefit from anything learned. However, new experiences are generally what make people interested and push them to grow.
High school is a new experience. College is a new experience. 3 It is not that you won’t learn anything else, but that the environment is so familiar. As a result, you can easily become less aware of your experience and not learn as much.
To solve this, an individual needs to introduce new experiences into their life. You may spend a summer in a different part of the country or learn a new language through trial and error. You can also go to a drive-in movie (or some other entertainment events that are new to you). 4
These types of experiences often result in very little “book knowledge”. Instead, they will often provide you with a better understanding of yourself as you experience your reaction to different situations. They will also provide you with a better understanding of others. 5
Becoming a well-rounded human isn’t something that happens by accident. You can spend your entire lifetime developing your potential.
A.Has education changed so much in the last decade?
B.However, at some point traditional education becomes repetitive.
C.Those new experiences may not lead to great personal development.
D.It can be valuable for you to work effectively with different people.
E.These are all things that can stretch and expand your experiences in life.
F.This is because unfamiliar experiences require much more of our attention.
G.What makes some experiences add great value to our lives while other experiences do not?
【解析】根据下文“Basically, unfamiliar experiences usually add more value than experiences that are familiar. G选项“What makes some experiences add great value to our lives while other experiences do not?(什么使某些经历为我们的生活增添了巨大价值,而其他经历却没有?)”
根据下文“And you are in a better state to learn something new. Honestly, someone who never experiences the same thing twice will never have a chance to benefit from anything learned. F选项“This is because unfamiliar experiences require much more of our attention.(这是因为不熟悉的经历需要我们更多的注意力)”符合语境。故选F。
3.【答案】 B
【解析】根据上文“High school is a new experience. College is a new experience.(上中学和上大学都是一种新的体验)”及下文“It is not that you won’t learn anything else, but that the environment is so familiar. As a result, you can easily become less aware of your experience and not learn as much.(不是你学不到别的东西,而是环境太熟悉了。
根据上文“You may spend a summer in a different part of the country or learn a new language through trial and error. You can also go to a drive-in movie (or some other entertainment events that are new to you). E选项“These are all things that can stretch and expand your experiences in life.(这些都是可以延伸和扩展你生活经验的事情)”符合语境,与前文呼应。故选E。
5.【答案】 D
【解析】根据上文“Instead, they will often provide you with a better understanding of yourself as you experience your reaction to different situations. They will also provide you with a better understanding of others. D选项“It can be valuable for you to work effectively with different people.

How to Avoid Distractions While Studying
You know you really want to do well in your study. Your parents have put the pressure on, or you promised yourself you would do better. But you keep getting distracted (分心)! How can you solve the problem? 6
Find a place that makes you want to study. If the books and seriousness of the library put you in the mood for focusing on study, go for it. If the comfortable chairs and coffee at your local café are what you need to get through your reading for English, go there. 7
Set a study schedule. When you have many subjects to study for, it can seem hard to get through everything. Give yourself a schedule where you set specific times to study particular subjects. 8 Besides, change subjects every two hours.A little variety keeps you refreshed and focused.
9 If you find yourself distracted from studying by thoughts about everything else, spend 5 minutes thinking about them, but then tell yourself studying is your main task now. If you are tired of study, step away. A short break helps refresh you so that you can stay focused when you come back to studying.
Go off the electronic devices. Texting, social media, calls and other distractions that come from our electronic devices are some of the biggest barriers to staying focused when studying. 10 Turn off the distracting electronic devices!
A.Give yourself a brief study break.
B.Go out for a picnic to refresh yourself.

G.The most important thing is that the location motivates you to study.

【解析】根据空前“How can you solve the problem?(你应该怎样来解决这个问题呢?)”

Passage 3
How to Write a Good Ending to a Story
Stories present an event or series of events and have a beginning, middle, and end. 11 To write a good ending for your story, there are at least four methods to show the reader why your story is important.
Deciding the End
12 The middle will include rising tension and your characters’ reactions to the conflict. Most story conflicts will either be person vs. nature, person vs. society, or person vs. themselves. Your final scene should resolve this conflict, whether your characters get what they want or not.
Explaining the Journey
Reflect on the significance of all the events. What themes, ideas, or arguments are you trying to portray through them? You don’t want to tell your reader directly, but you need to show them. 13 —where the reader follows the events flowing in turn—will help you create an ending that makes sense based on what has happened earlier.
Using Action and Images
Use action to show (not tell) what is important. We know that stories full of action, whether written or visual, appeal to all ages. Build your ending with description and sensory images, for sensory details connect us emotionally to the story. Highlight a theme. 14
Following Logic
Sometimes when we get too excited (or too frustrated) about a story we’re writing, we can forget that events and behaviors tend to follow logic. 15 Most topics—if pursued through logic—will invite your readers into deeper thinking.
A.First, identify the parts of your story.
B.Taking a journey to seek inspirations
C.Thinking about your story as a journey
D.Your story will have a beginning to introduce characters and setting.
E.A good story ending often creates a significant impact on the reader.
F.Actually, a good ending just records what would logically happen in a situation.
G.Focusing on a specific subject through images and actions can help you create a structure unique to your story.
【解析】根据前文“Stories present an event or series of events and have a beginning, middle, and end. 下文“To write a good ending for your story, there are at least four methods to show the reader why your story is important.”(为了给你的故事写一个好的结局,至少有四种方法可以向读者展示你的故事为什么重要。)
【解析】根据下文“The middle will include rising tension and your characters’ reactions to the conflict. 及“Your final scene should resolve this conflict, whether your characters get what they want or not.”(你的最后一幕应该解决这个冲突,无论你的角色得到他们想要的或不。)
【解析】根据段落标题句“Explaining the Journey”(解释这个旅程)及下文“where the reader follows the events flowing in turn—will help you create an ending that makes sense based on what has happened earlier.”(读者则会跟踪事件的发展——这将有助于你根据之前发生的事情创造一个有意义的结局。)
结合前文“Sometimes when we get too excited (or too frustrated) about a story we’re writing, we can forget that events and behaviors tend to follow logic.
Passage 4
Do Weighted Blankets Work?
Sleep is supposed to be a natural thing, but if you wrestle with insomnia (失眠症), you may be tempted to try pieces of equipment that promise better sleep. 16
“They’ve become the sleep tool to have,” says Alanna McGinn, founder and lead sleep expert at Good Night Sleep Site. “I’m a huge supporter of them because they can work so well.”
About 32 percent of Americans don’t get enough sleep, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 17 Insomnia impacts as many as 35 percent of adults from time to time, while 10 percent have chronic trouble falling and staying asleep.
Choose one that’s around 10 percent of your body weight. 18 Inside is a layer of plastic, glass or metal balls surrounded by filling. McGinn says the blanket’s heaviness acts as a touch therapy called deep pressure stimulation. Just as wrapping babies tightly can send them to sleep, these blankets help your heart and breathing rates slow and your body release feel-good hormones, including serotonin (血清素).
Are they effective? A 2020 review study in the U.S. looked at eight previous studies and concluded that weighted blankets helped reduce anxiety — but not necessarily insomnia. 19 A randomized controlled study in Sweden looked at 120 people with insomnia and also depression or anxiety. 20 People with conditions such as diabetes or breathing issues, however, should check with their doctor before using one. “And if you’re someone who is a little afraid of an enclosed space, it’s probably not the best thing for you,” adds McGinn.
A.It recommends at least seven hours a night for adults.
B.Those who used a weighted blanket slept better and were less tired or anxious.
C.The study found a significant rise in the related symptoms.
D.But other 2020 research tells a slightly different story.
E.One that might sound a little weird but that has been known to work is a weighted blanket.
F.Dealing with such problems can be more or less tricky.
G.Weighted blankets range between two and 14 kilograms.

20.【答案】 B
【解析】后文“People with conditions such as diabetes or breathing issues, however, should check with their doctor before using one.(然而,患有糖尿病或呼吸问题的人在使用之前应该咨询医生)”提到重力毯可能不适用的人群,和前文语义有转折,B项“Those who used a weighted blanket slept better and were less tired or anxious.(那些使用重力毯的人睡得更好,更少疲劳和焦虑)”说明重力毯的作用,可以和后文形成转折,符合语境。故选B。
Passage 5
Users should reduce their screen time
According to the researchers from National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), long and consistent use of social media can lead to depression, stress, and anxiety among users of all ages. 21 This effect is driven by a constant urge to check and interact with the content on these platforms.
However, if you reduce the time you spend on your phone every day, you can spare a few more hours for outdoor activity. 22 Reducing your screen time also allows you to develop better in-person relationships. Positive social interactions release mood-boosting neurochemicals that promote overall happiness.
Here are a few tips to reduce your screen time:
Set limits. Many mobile devices and apps can record the amount of time you spend on your device. You might decide you only want to spend three hours online each day. From there, you can track your time to ensure you don’t go beyond the limit.
Remove distractions (使人分心的事物). Whenever you’re working on something else, try placing your phone in another room or closing your laptop. 23 You might also be less likely to conduct an Internet search that turns into an extended browsing (浏览) session.
24 Accessing the Internet takes seconds, which can easily become a convenient habit. However, making specific plans to see friends or go outside can help you deliberately break away from the screen.
Create a habit. 25 For example, instead of grabbing your phone first thing in the morning, leave a pen and paper beside your bed and spend a few minutes journaling when you wake up. This way, you can train your brain to enjoy alternative forms of happiness and lessen the urge to log on to social media immediately.
A.Plan activities.
B.Develop friendships.
C.The process takes continuous effort.
D.Many users even experience social media addiction.
E.It means reminding yourself of other sources of entertainment.
F.Research shows many positive effects, such as lower blood pressure and stress.

Passage 6
We are in a rare moment when we can rebuild our social networks better than we were before the pandemic. Many of us have reflected over the past three years on the things that are truly important and make us happiest at work and at home. 26 Weigh who matters, what’s missing and how to build our A-team. Here is some advice for rounding out your circle of friends.
27 It may include family, home, work, hobbies and interests, and emotional life. Think carhether you have friends who can provide it. And if there are friendships that do not fulfill (满足) you anymore, just let them go.
Start with those you miss most. Rekindling (重新唤起) a relationship is easier than starting one. If it’s someone you deeply care about and really miss, they are going to be thrilled to hear from you. 28 Sometimes the best way to maintain a friendship is to show up when you are needed. And it can feel good to help someone else rather than always focus on your own issues.
Once you have identified the types of friends you need, take action to find them. Start with the area of your life that feels loneliest. For me, after two years of not seeing colleagues in person, I realized I need more work friends. The rekindling-versus-starting-anew advice holds here, too. Have you recently moved? Maybe there is someone from your past who lives nearby. Join a group of people who share your interests — or your current struggle — and show up regularly. 29
Don’t limit yourself by age, race, gender or anything else. Often, the people who expand our world to the greatest extent are those who are different from us. 30 It is great to have friends close by, but that is not always possible. With the Internet, you can make a meaningful connection anywhere. Remember that family and even pets can be friends, too. If you can keep your definition of friendship broad, you are going to have the strongest team.
A.You need people who understand you.
B.Don’t let geography hold you back, either.
C.Make a list of the different areas in your life.
D.Now it is time to do this with our friendships.
E.It is important to have friends in the same life stage as you.
F.Research shows friendship happens with repeated interaction.
G.Prioritize friends who’re experiencing a tough time and need support.

Passage 8
(2023·河北·校联考模拟预测)I was a radio presenter for many years, including hosting a music show. I soon noticed that almost everyone chose music from the same period: when they were in their teens or early twenties. 36
Firstly, we tend to have a different good memory between the ages of about ten and thirty. 37 The second reason is that music is a powerful trigger for our emotions, which in turn spark our memories. The music in our teen years is likely to have lots of emotions to understand, so even a very small part of a particular song can bring powerful feelings and memories flooding back.
38 It can have a calming effect, putting you in a relaxed mood, ready, to remember. Rhythms and rhymes are great memory aids. And when we love a song, we tend to repeat it over and over, again. Singing or playing something can even activate “muscle memory”, and there are many cases of people with severe memory loss still being able to perform music they learned decades ago.
So the next time you hear a familiar song, put it to good use, to explore and exercise your memory. Think about the places and people it reminds you of and the emotions it brings. 39 Remember a particular time in your life, think about the music you listened to then and let it take you back, following the connections as you piece together the past.
You can also use music when you’ re learning. 40 If you’re dealing with several topics, play different styles of music while learning different things.
Experiment to see what works for you, Songs can have a powerful impact on memory, and that should be music to everyone’s ears!
A.There are two very good reasons for that.
B.The following practical suggestions are just for you.
C.There are further ways in which music boosts recall.
D.Find recordings that energize your thinking in your study.
