考点1　pretty的用法
1.pretty作副词时,用来修饰形容词或副词,表示程度,相当于very,但程度没有very强。例如:
After six months,I could speak English pretty well.六个月之后,我就能讲相当流利的英语了。
2.pretty还可作形容词,意为“漂亮的;赏心悦目的;美观的;精致的”。例如:
She is quite pretty.她相当漂亮。
考点2　as...as...的用法
1.as...as...意为“和……一样……”,两个as之间用形容词或副词的原级。其否定形式为“not as/so...as...”,意为“不如……”。例如:
This film is as interesting as that one.这部电影和那部电影一样有趣。
She doesn’t study as/so hard as her little sister.她学习不如她妹妹努力。
2.如果涉及数量或程度,可用“as much+(不可数名词)+as”或“as many+(可数名词复数)+as”。例如:
You must speak English as much as possible.你必须尽可能多地说英语。
You made as many mistakes as I did.你犯的错误和我犯的一样多。
3.修饰“as...as...”结构的常见词语有nearly,almost,just,exactly,half,quite,twice,three times等,需注意这些修饰语都只能放在“as...as...”结构之前,而不能置于其中或其后。例如:
I earn half as much as you do.我的收入是你的一半。
This rope is twice as long as that one.这根绳子是那根的两倍长。
考点3　population的用法
1.population意为“(某一地区的)人口;全体居民”,作集合名词,常与定冠词the连用。它作主语时,谓语动词用单数形式。询问“某地有多少人口”的句型是“What’s the population of...?”或“How large is the population of...?”
2.表示“某地有多少人口”的两种表达方式:The population of+某地+is+数词;某地+has a population of+数词。例如:
The population of the UK is about 66 million.=The UK has a population of about 66 million.英国大约有6600万人口。
3.当主语是表示“人口的百分之几、几分之几”时,谓语动词用复数形式。例如:
Three fifths of the population of this area are workers.这个地区五分之三的人口是工人。
4.表示人口的“多”或“少”,用large或small,不用many或few。例如:

The population of Shanghai is larger than that of many other cities in China.上海的人口比中国许多其他城市的人口都多。
