Egg carving(蛋雕) is often called the most fragile(易碎的) art, as it requires great care before, during and even after the carving. Yu Wen, the granddaughter of a famous local painter in Dandong, Liaoning Province, has been practising egg carving for about 25 years.
Yu has used more than 10,000 eggs, and years of hard work has left many thick calluses(茧)on her hands. Sometimes she can’t even hold chopsticks properly after a long day of holding the carving knife. But in Yu’s opinion, the difficult process makes egg carving more exciting. “If you carve the egg too much, the work will be broken and there is no way to deal with it. That makes the sense of achievement even greater when you finish a piece,” Yu said.
Yu’s love for egg carving started in her childhood. In northeast China, when a baby is born, friends and relatives often send eggs colored red as gifts, and some auspicious words are carved on them. The Chinese character fu is a popular one. Her egg carving is just as much about eggs as it is about Chinese culture.

After that, the woman asked, “Boy, don’t you feel ashamed of yourself?”
“I’m sorry,” whispered the boy.
“What did you want to do it for? Your face is dirty. Nobody at home told you to wash your face?”
The boy shook his head.
“Then,” the woman shouted, “it will get washed this evening. You are going to remember Mrs. Jones!” She dragged the frightened boy behind her and got to her door.
“Are you taking me to the police?” The boy asked.
‘‘Not with that face! Have you been home to eat yet?”
“There’s nobody at my house.”
“Then we’ll eat,” said Mrs. Jones. “I believe you’re hungry, so you tried to steal.”
“I wanted a pair of leather shoes,” said the boy.
“Well, you didn’t have to snatch my purse to get things you want. Besides, there’s little money in it.”
There was a long silence. After he washed his face and turned around, wondering what to do next, he saw the door open. He could run, run, run and run!
In the corner of the room, Mrs. Jones was heating some beans. She didn’t watch the boy to see if he was going to run, nor did she watch her purse which she left behind on the bed. But the boy took care to sit on the far side of the room, away from the purse, where he thought she could easily see him.
“Do you need somebody to get milk or something?” The boy asked.
“I don’t unless you want,” said Mrs. Jones.
As they ate, she didn’t ask about where he lived, or his family, or anything that would embarrass him. Instead, she said, “eat some more, boy!”
When they finished eating, she got up. ‘‘Now here, take this ten dollars and buy your shoes. Next time, don’t snatch my purse, nor anyone else’s — shoes got in bad ways will burn your feet!”

46.句意:每天我们有很多练习要做,还有很多考试要考。根据“As Grade 9 students, we are busying studying for the coming entrance exam.”

56.Dear teacher and classmates,
I am glad to tell you my experience in labor education. There is no doubt that I am willing to take an active part in the labor practice. The most unforgettable experience that I have learnt was to care for the old in community. I spent the whole afternoon preparing a big meal for them. Although it was tiring and full of challenge, I felt happy when I saw the smile on their faces.
What’s more, I helped to clean the classroom at school. My classmates and I successfully made our classroom clean and tidy. I also developed good labor habits at home. I always believe that it’s our duty to share the housework, such as washing the dishes and our own clothes. I found it meaningful to learn some useful life skills from my parents. All in all, thanks to the labor education, I learnt a lot. And it helped me gained more practical life skills. More importantly, I developed a sense of responsibility.
That’s my sharing. Hope all of us enjoy the labor education.
