Riley clearly made a good impression during his first day on the job, as community services manager Jane Carrol said, who was very pleased with his enthusiasm for the role. If having to make a choice between reading an e-book and a printed book, which would most people choose? Some would go for an e-book while some still prefer the hard-printed book.
Undoubtedly,e-books do have benefits.Firstly, changes to an electronic publication are relatively easy to make. They are quicker to obtain.E-books are more easily updated. The printed books on many subjects can become outdated very quickly. Secondly, e-books can be easily and quickly kept up to date. You usually get far more than just the e-books. Most e-books are sold with bonuses and related information that usually do not come with the purchase of a printed book. Moreover, they take up less space. Instead of a big library, you can fit literally thousands of books on your computer. It also makes it easier to share this information with families and friends.
For nearly twenty years, additionally, futurists have been predicting the development of printed books. They hold the view that digital e-books are on the edge of replacing paper books. However, this has not been the case.A printed book has its advantages too. Firstly, it is an object that can be carried and used alone. It needs no electric outlet (插座), no batteries, nothing. Secondly, e-books will always require some forms of support that the printed book does not need. I believe that the online publishing has not taken off because people want real books. What is being published online more and more are pamphlets (小册子)and things that really do not need to be in print. These are stuff that people throw away afterward. More often, people do not want to read a book on the computer. What could be better than a paper book? It lasts a long time. These books are designed to last a long time without disappearing.
To sum up,there is no denying that the printed book is still very much preferred over its digital cousins. Reading electronic publications is just not the same when it comes to books. People are still very interested in real books and notebooks.
8.What can we know about an e-book?
A.It will never be out of date.
B.It always gives you an added bonus.
C.It can deliver information quickly.
D.It has taken the place of printed books.
9.Which statement would futurists probably agree with?
A.Printed books will disappear.
B.Printed books can be used alone.
C.E-books have many restrictions.
D.E-books have no disadvantages.
10.What is the underlined phrase “taken off” mean in the fourth paragraph?
A.failed B.removed C.changed D.succeeded
11.What does the author think of the future of the printed book?
A.Hopeless. B.Unpredictable. C.Costly. D.Promising.

Zo Trisha Prinsloo cares about the beaches of Cape Town,South Africa. She leads cleanups there. She set up a group called Save a Fishie years ago! It has picked up plastic bottles, food containers, and other waste.“My main goal is to constantly remove anything and everything I can off our beaches,” she says,“and to try to prevent litter from being taken out to sea.”
Lately, however,Prinsloo has noticed an increase in a certain kind of plastic waste. It's from PPE(personal protective equipment). Her group Save a Fishie saw “eight different kinds of gloves” during a cleanup.“I find masks more and more regularly, too,” she said.
People everywhere are wearing PPE to protect themselves from COVID-19.But when PPE isn't thrown out the right way,it pollụtes the environment and endangers wildlife. Each year,at least 8 million tons of plastic enter the world's oceans. Now this waste includes more PPE.Last year, the Ocean Conservancy led by its chief scientist George Leonard held its annual International Coastal Cleanup.“We've found tens of thousands of PPE waste, and more of it is being put into oceans.PPE waste is a significant threat to oceans,” Leonard said.PPE waste can hurt ocean animals that can eat it or get tangled(缠绕)in it.Sue Schwar manages South Essex Wildlife Hospital in the UK.Her team saved a seagull.“Its legs got tangled,” she said.Thankfully, the staff was able to untangle the bird and set it free.
PPE will continue to be common until COVID-19 ends, but there're steps you can take to reduce its environmental impact.Wear clean reusable masks and deal with them carefully before throwing them into rubbish bins to make sure animals won't get tangled up.Put used PPE in a bin with a safe lid(盖子).This is important when the bin is outside because masks and gloves can be carried away by the wind.
12.Why did Prinsloo set up Save a Fishie?
A.To clean up the beaches. B.To offer free PPE to people.
C.To stop people producing rubbish. D.To help fight against COVID-19.
13.What has Leonard's team discovered?
A.Ocean animals also need PPE. B.PPE waste is a growing problem.
C.Ocean environment depends on PPE. D.PPE can help protect people greatly.

A.What to do to reduce rubbish. B.Where to put rubbish bins.
C.How to solve the PPE problem. D.When to wear masks and gloves.
15.Where is this text most likely from?

It was early spring and Nana was in the backyard with her grandchildren. Amy, Michael, and Justin were playing when Nana said, “I’m going to start planting my garden. Who wants to help me?”
“What are going to plant, Nana?” asked Amy. “I like big, yellow sunflowers.”
“I’m going to plant vegetables. That way we can have them to eat when they are ready,” said Nana.
“How long does that take?” asked Michael. He liked vegetables sometimes, especially carrots.
“It will take a few months before anything is ready to eat,” answered Nana. The children were surprised.
“Months? Why would you do all that work and then have to wait so long?” asked Amy. “You should just go to the store and buy them.”
“Patience, my sweeties! Don’t you know food always tastes best when you grow it yourself?” replied Nana. “And if all of you come to help, it won’t be too much work.”
“I’ll help you, Nana,” offered Justin. He put down the soccer ball and went to look at the gardening tools Nana had laid out. “What do we do first?” Michael and Amy came over to look, too.
Nana taught Justin how to use a trowel (小铲子) to dig small rows of holes for the seeds. Next, Nana showed Amy how to place the seeds into each hole. And it was Michael’s job to cover up the holes with soil. Finally, Amy wrote the vegetable names on sticks that Justin pushed into the ground. “This way we can remember which vegetable seeds we have planted,” said Nana.
When they had planted everything, the children took turns filling up the watering can so that Nana could make the soil nice and wet for the seeds to start to grow.
“Now we just water them a little every day, and with some time and sunshine, we’ll have some delicious things to eat in the summer,” said Nana.

第二节:读后续写
One possible version
Possible version1 :
Whenever the grandchildren came to visit, they would dash into the garden. Not surprisingly, they were going to see how the garden was growing. Every one was in high spirit. Eager to help grow the vegetables well, they took turns to water the vegetables, remove the weeds around the plants and apply organic fertilizer under Nana’s instruction if necessary. As time went by, the plants were growing taller and stronger. When they noticed the vegetables flowering and producing fruits, their eyes were sparkling like diamonds. Never had they looked forward to summer like this before. Their efforts during the time was worthwhile. Then, they were waiting for the inviting results in the coming harvest patiently.
Finally, Nana said it was time for the first harvest. Hearing that, the children all jumped into the air and cheers filled the whole garden. Nana gave them each baskets and, together they gathered some of the cucumbers, carrots and tomatoes, which were turned into delicacies. After that, they ran back home, smiling and skipping along. And then they were busy making vegetable salad with excitement and happiness.Tasting the salad, they thought nothing could be more delicious, because it was they who grew these vegetables. They all learned that many hands make light work and patience really pays off.
Possible version 2 :
Whenever the grandchildren came to visit, they would dash into the garden. Eager to help grow the vegetables well, they first took turns to water the plants. Then Nana showed them which plants needed trimming or which needed tying up to grow tall and straight. Day after day, spring turned into summer and finally, the plants started revealing their colorful secrets. The children were thrilled to see the tomatoes turning red, the cucumbers hiding under the green leaves and the peppers growing bigger. Not until then did they realize that Nana was right-- all they needed was patience.
Finally, Nana said it was time for the first harvest. With baskets ready, Nana and the children started out on their business. Nana took them around the garden and picked some tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and cabbages. Then for the following hour, they were busying making vegetable salad. The children helped wash the dirt off the food while Nana chopped up the vegetables. When Nana asked who wanted to try the fresh salad, everyone expressed their willingness excitedly. “OK. Amy, get the plates. Justin, get the water and cups, and Michael, get the forks. Let’s celebrate the harvest!”
