    UNIT 1 How can we become good learners?

    设计说明

    课时学习有关学习方法的短文。教学时先从讨论学习习惯入手,导入新课,进入对课文的学习,通过对不同任务的阅读体验,让学生理解文本内容。

    教学目标

    通过本课时的学习,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    (1) 单词born, ability, create, brain, active, attention, connect, overnight, review, knowledge, lifelong, wisely

    (2) 短语be born with, pay attention to, connect…with

    (3) 句型But whether or not you can do this well depends on your learning habits.

    Use it or lose it.

    Practice makes perfect.

    Knowledge comes from questioning.

    2.能力目标

    (1) 能谈论一些好的学习习惯

    (2) 学会怎样成为一名成功的学习者。

    3.情感目标

    通过学习,培养学生良好的学习习惯和遇到困难勇于进取的精神。

    重点难点

    1.重点:能够从阅读材料中总结成功的语言学习习惯;训练学生快速阅读语篇,并从语篇中获取重要内容的技能

    2.难点:让学生能够通过上下文猜测生词的含义。

    Step 1 Lead-in

    Ask the students to have a discussion.

    What good learning habits can you think of? Make a list and discuss them with your partner.

    Some possible answers:

    Being attentive in class.

    Having an interest in class.

    Preview what you’ll learn before a lesson.

    Reviewing what has learned after each lesson.

    Asking questions in class.

    Having a study partner.

    Step 2 Reading   

    Fast reading

    Task 1

    Get the students to scan the passage and answer the following questions:

    1. What does the passage talk about?

    2. Which four habits of successful learners can you find from the passage?

    Check the answers one by one.

    The answers are:

    1. The passage talks about good learning habits.

    2. (1) Creating an interest in what you learn.

    (2) Practicing and learning from mistakes.

    (3) Developing their study skills.

    (4) Asking questions.

    Task 2

    Read the passage and find the words in 2d, then guess the meanings of them. If necessary, look them up in the dictionary.

    Task 1

    Read the passage and answer the questions.

    1. Does the writer think that everyone is born with the ability to learn well? Do you agree? Why or why not?

    2. Why is it a good idea to connect something you need to learn with something you are interested in?

    3. What do the sayings “Use it or lose it” and “Practice makes perfect” mean? Do you agree with them?

    4. Do good learners learn from mistakes, or are they afraid of making mistakes?

    5. What study skills does the writer talk about? Do you have those study skills?

    6. Do you agree that learning is a lifelong journey? Why or why not?

    Check the answers one by one.

    The answers are:

    1. No, he doesn’t.

    Yes, I do. Because whether or not one can learn well depends on his/her learning habits.

    2. Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time. You will also not get bored.

    3. Use it or lose it: If you stop doing something, you will forget how to do it.

    Practice makes perfect: If you do something again and again, you will become very good at it.

    4. Good learners learn from their mistakes, and they are not afraid of making mistakes.

    5. Take notes by writing down key words or by drawing mind maps.

    Look for ways to review what they have learnt, e.g. read the notes every day or explain the information to another student.
