本课时学习与篮球历史相关的阅读理解。教学时先从谈论篮球的基本装备入手,导入新课,进入对课文的阅读理解,通过对不同任务的阅读体验,让学生理解文本内容。

Step 1 Lead-in
Play a short video of basketball for the students to enjoy.
Then talk about the basic equipment about basketball: basketball, basket, backboard, net, wooden floor.

Can you guess what the passage talks about?
Check the answer.
It talks about basketball, including when and maybe how basketball was invented, and maybe it will tell us the development of basketball.

That a person is famous does not mean that everything goes well for him/her all the time.

stop…from doing sth.阻止……做某事
We must stop him from going to swim in the river.
我们必须阻止他去河里游泳。
在主动语态中,stop…from doing sth. 中的from可以省略,但在被动语态中不能省略。
3. In China, you can sometimes see people playing basketball in parks, schools and even factories.

not only…but also…不但……而且……
在句中常用来连接两个对等的成分,also可以省略。
She speaks Russian not only in class but (also) at home.

not only... but (also)... 用来连接并列主语时,谓语动词的单复数遵循“就近原则”,即与but (also)后的名词或代词的数保持一致。
Not only Zhou Xia but also her parents are fond of watching football matches.
不仅周霞而且她的父母也都喜欢看足球赛。
5. The number of foreign players, including Chinese players, in the NBA has increased.
NBA中的外国球员数量有所增加,其中也包括中国球员。
the number of...……的数量,后接可数名词复数,作主语时,谓语动词用单数形式。
The number of the students in our school is 2, 000.
我们学校的学生数量是2 000。
