设计说明
本课时通过向学生展示一组有关环境污染的图片导入新课,组织学生讨论本单元的话题“保护环境”,激发他们的学习兴趣。通过听力练习,提升学生快速获取信息的能力并进一步了解各种污染。通过朗读对话,提升学生的朗读能力,培养在日常生活中保护环境的意识。指导学生学习新知识点,积累英语基础知识。最后,设置对应练习,检查和巩固学生所学的基础知识和语言技能。

Step 1 Lead-in
Show some pictures about pollution to class. And ask them to talk about them in English.

Step 2 Presentation
Work on 1a.
1. Here are some words related to different kinds of pollution. Write them in the box below.

2. Ask them to listen to the recording and complete the sentences.
3. Play recording again for the students to check their answers.

Step 4 Discussion
Work on 1c.
1. Ask the students to work in pairs. Role-play the conversation.
Mark: The river was dirty. Even the bottom of the river was full of rubbish.
Tony: But it used to be so clean!
Mark: Yes, but people are throwing litter into the river.
Tony: Everyone in this town should play a part in cleaning it up!
2. Tell the students to make their own conversations about the kinds of pollution in 1a.
Step 5 Listening
Work on 2a.
1. Before listening, ask the students to read the different kinds of pollution.

2. Play the recording and ask the students to circle the kinds of pollution that Jason and Susan talk about.
3. Check the answers.

Interviewer: Today we’re talking to Jason and Susan about environmental problems. Jason and Susan, can you tell us about some of the problems you’ve seen?
Jason: I think one problem is that the air is badly polluted. I hardly ever see blue skies anymore.
Susan: Yes, and I used to see the stars clearly.
Interviewer: What do you think has caused this problem?
Susan: Well, there are more cars on the road these days.
Jason: And factories that burn coal also pollute the air with a lot of black smoke.
Interviewer: What other problems do you see?
Susan: I guess there’s too much rubbish and waste in the streets.
Jason: Yes! Every day people are throwing away things like wooden chopsticks, plastic bowls and plastic bags.
Susan: They’re also littering in public places, for example, during picnics in parks. This is turning beautiful places into ugly ones.
Interviewer: You’re right. These are serious problems for our environment. Next, let’s talk about the things we can do to help.
Step 6 Practice
Work on 2c.
Use the information in 2a and 2b to role-play conversations between Jason and Susan.
1. Ask the students to role-play the conversation with their partners.
2. Encourage some pairs to present their conversation.
Step 7 Role-play
Work on 2d.
1. Play the recording of the conversation.
2. Ask the students to read the conversation after the recording.
3. Explain some important language points of this part.
4. Ask them to read the conversation on their own.
5. Role-play the conversation in pairs.
6. Divide the class into three groups and ask them to role-play the conversation.
7. Complete the chart.

Step 8 Language points
1. But it used to be so clean! 但它过去如此干净!
used to意为“过去常常”,强调过去经常发生,但现在不再发生。后接动词原形。
My family used to live in the countryside, but now we live in the city.
我家过去住在乡下,但现在我们住在城市里。
He didn’t use to like vegetables.
他过去不喜欢蔬菜。
[注意] be used to意为“习惯于”,to是介词,后接名词、代词或动词-ing形式。
My father is used to getting up early.
我父亲习惯于早起床。
2. …we should take the bus or subway instead of driving.
……我们应该乘坐公共汽车或地铁而不是开车。
instead of是短语介词,意为“代替;而不是”,其后可跟名词、代词或动名词形式,否定of后的内容。
I can attend to the meeting instead of my sick brother.
我可以代替我生病的弟弟参加会议。
[拓展] instead是副词,常位于句末。位于句首时,其后有逗号,肯定instead所在句的内容。
He didn’t reply. Instead, he left the room. 他没回答,反而离开了房间。
3. It’s good for health and it doesn’t cost anything! 那对健康有好处,并且没有什么花费!
cost (cost,cost)及物动词,意为“花费”。常用搭配为sth. cost(s) sb. some money,意为“某物花费某人多少金钱”。
The computer cost me 3, 000 yuan. 这台电脑花费了我3 000元。
4. And remember to throw rubbish in the bins and keep public places clean and beautiful for everyone. 记得把垃圾扔进垃圾桶里,为了大家要保持公共场所干净美观。
