教学目标
通过本课时的学习,让学生达成以下目标:
1.知识目标
(1)单词:gate, bottle, president, inspiration, iron, work, metal, creativity

(3)句型:①Have you ever thought about how these things can actually be put to good use?
②Not only can the art bring happiness to others, but it also shows that even cold, hard iron can be brought back to life with a little creativity.

Step 1 Lead-in
T: What can we do to save the earth?

T: In fact, we can do many things to save the earth. For example:
Take the bus instead of driving.
Recycle paper.
Turn off the lights when you leave a room.
Turn off the shower while we are washing our hair.
Don’t use paper napkins.
T: List more things that you can do to save the earth.

Step 2 Warming up
1. Show the pictures to the class and ask them what they are made of.
The things in these three pictures are made of plastic bottles.
2. Ask the students to look at the title and the pictures in 2b. Guess what the passage is about.

It’s about how people can think of creative ways to use things that are no longer wanted.

Step 4 Language points
1. Do you often throw away things you don’t need anymore? 你经常扔掉你不再需要的东西吗?
(1)throw away 意为“扔掉, 抛弃”,是“动词+副词”结构的动词短语,名词作宾语时,放在away前后都可,但人称代词作宾语时,必须放在away之前。类似结构的短语还有turn off, pull down, work out等。
Don’t throw those vegetables away. 别扔那些蔬菜。
The paper is still useful. Don’t throw it away. 这些纸仍然有用。别扔了。
(2)not…anymore意为“不再”,anymore通常位于句末,not与be动词、助动词或连系动词等连用。该结构可与no more进行转换。
The girl didn’t cry anymore when she saw her mother.=The girl no more cried when she saw her mother. 看到母亲后,那个女孩不再哭泣。
2. The windows and doors come from old buildings around her town that were pulled down. 窗户和门来自她所在的镇上被拆除的旧建筑。
pull down 意为“拆下,摧毁”,也是一个“动词+副词”结构的动词短语。
All the old houses here will be pulled down. 这儿所有的旧房子都要拆除。
3. The top of the house is an old boat turned upside down. 房子的顶部是一条翻转过去的旧木船。
turned upside down是一个过去分词短语,在句中作后置定语,修饰名词boat。过去分词(短语)作定语,含有被动的含义。
I like the photos taken by the lake. 我喜欢在湖边拍摄的这些照片。
4. Not only can the art bring happiness to others, but it also shows that even cold, hard iron can be brought back to life with a little creativity. 艺术不但给人们带来快乐,而且也说明只需要一点儿创造力,即使是坚硬、冰冷的铁也可以产生活力。
not only…but also…意思是“不但……而且……”,其中的also有时可以省略,用于连接两个表示并列关系的成分,着重强调后者,它也可以连接两个句子。
Not only I but also Tom and Mary are fond of watching television.
不仅我,(而且)汤姆和玛丽也都喜欢看电视。
Light and bright colors make people not only happier but more active.
浅而亮的颜色不但使人更开心,也会使人更具活力。
[注意] 1. not only…but also…连接两个主语时,谓语动词的人称和数上适用“就近原则”。
Not only I but also Lucy has been to China.不但我,(而且)露西也去过中国。
2. Not only…but also…连接句子时,not only 可以置于句首表示强调,这时第一分句要采用倒装结构。
Not only do the professors have their own ideas on the matter, but the students have theirs too. 对这件事不仅教授们有自己的看法,学生们也有自己的想法。
