When Merle was a child, she was often sick. To getstronger, she took up swimming. Soon, she was taking part inopen-water swimming competition. Merle moved to Florida 12years ago, but she continued to swim in the ocean. One dayduring training,she almost swallowed(吞)some floatingplastic waste. This made her think of the sea animals. Shedecided to do something to let people see this serious problem.
Merle had an idea ofswimming like an oceananimal. She began to swimwith rubbery fin(脚蹼) onher feet. Instead of using herarms, she swam forward bykicking her legs together.
