In 2050, dining at your favourite restaurant is likely to be a different experience.
For your starter, you'll tuck into a Caesar salad containing protein-rich mealworms instead
of chicken. Next, your android waiter 2.0 will bring over the mouth-watering main course; a
meaty burger that has been grown in a Petri dish(有盖培养皿). Then, if you still have room for
dessert, you'll choose from a range of sweet treats that have been designed on a computer and
    printed directly onto the plate.
These unconventional dishes may seem stomach-churning to us now, but in the future they
could help to solve a global food crisis. Over the next 35 years, the world's population is
expected to exceed nine billion, meaning an extra two billion hungry mouths to feed. To fulfill this demand, the amount of food we grow will need to increase by 70 percent, but with billions
of its inhabitants already undernourished, this is going to be a major challenge.
Today's global food industry is already unsustainable, so scientists will need to step in more
to help. By genetically modifying the plants we grow, not only can the more vulnerable species
be made able to withstand harsher environment, but the hardier species that can survive could
also be made more nutritious to ensure we all get enough vitamins and minerals.
Although growing fruit and vegetables generates a great deal of greenhouse gas, it is
livestock production that is the biggest contributor to global emissions. Demand for meat brings
negative consequences for our planet, so something needs to be done very soon. One simple
solution to the problem is to eat less meat, but for a mostly carnivorous (食肉的)global
population, this idea is unlikely to catch on. Therefore, tasty alternatives need to be found.
Instead of packets and tins, your local supermarket will sell ingredients in cartridges that you can load into your 3D printer at home. Then, with a press of a button, you can sit back and
relax while the machine builds a delicious dish—layer by layer—that is sure to impress your
    dinner party guests.
    24. What might be served in the future restaurant according to the passage?
    A. Beef burgers without calories. B. Delicious vegetarian dishes.
    C. Popular hand-made cakes. D. Bread made using insect flour.
25.Which is the reason why we may adopt unconventional dishes?
    A. To provide nutrition for people around the world.
    B. To decrease the farmlands being used in the planet.
C.To balance food supply and demand.
D.To feed the extra two billion hungry mouths.
    26. Which of the following is correct regarding the relationship between food and climate?

    A. Drops cultivation—gas emission—climate changes—more crops.
    B. Genetical modification—better adaptation—more nutrition.
    C. Livestock—minor influence—less consequence—remain unchanged.
    D.Less meat lovers—more tasty choices—more food changes.
27.What might be discussed in the paragraphs following the last one?
    A.Hi-tech farms. B.Lab-grown meat.
    C. Genetically modified food. D. 3D-printed meals.
    C
Popularization has in some cases changed the original meaning of emotional(情感的)
intelligence. Many people now misunderstand emotional intelligence as almost everything
desirable in a person's makeup that cannot be measured by an IQ test, such as character,
motivation, confidence, mental stability, optimism and "people skills."Research has shown that
emotional skills may contribute to some of these qualities, but most of them move far beyond
    skill-based emotional intelligence.
We prefer to describe emotional intelligence as a specific set of skills that can be used for either good or bad purposes. The ability to accurately understand how others are feeling may be
used by a doctor to find how best to help her patients, while a cheater might use it to control
potential victims. Being emotionally intelligent does not necessarily make one a moral person.
Although popular beliefs regarding emotional intelligence run far ahead of what research
can reasonably support, the overall effects of the publicity have been more beneficial than
harmful. The most positive aspect of this popularization is a new and much needed emphasis (重 视) on emotion by employers, educators and others interested in promoting social well-being.
The popularization of emotional intelligence has helped both the public and researchers
re-evaluate the functionality of emotions and how they serve people adaptively in everyday life.
Although the continuing popular appeal of emotional intelligence is desirable, we hope that such attention will excite a greater interest in the scientific and scholarly study of emotion. It is our hope that in coming decades, advances in science will offer new perspectives(视角) from
which to study how people manage their lives. Emotional intelligence, with its focus on both
head and heart, may serve to point us in the right direction.
28.What is a common misunderstanding of emotional intelligence?
    A. It can be measured by an IQ test. B.It helps to exercise a person's mind.
    C. It includes a set of emotional skills. D. It refers to a person's positive
    qualities.
    29. Why does the author mention"doctor"and "cheater"in paragraph 2?
    A.To explain a rule. B. To clarify a concept.
    C. To present a fact. D.To make a prediction.
    30. What is the author's attitude to the popularization of emotional intelligence?

    A.Favorable. B.Intolerant.
    C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.
    31. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about concerning emotional intelligence?
    A. Its appeal to the public. B.Expectations for future studies.
    C. Its practical application. D. Scientists with new perspectives.
    D
When it comes to work, workers, and jobs, much of the concern of the modern age boils
down to the fear that we're witnessing the final stage of the game, and that there will be nowhere for humans to withdraw(撤退) as machines take over the last few tasks. The most recent
example comes from the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Is there no area of human experience that can't be replaced by AI? And if not, what is left for humans to do except the tasks involved
in taking care of the machines?
At the heart of this concern is our desire for good jobs —jobs that make the most of
workers'natural abilities and where the work provides the worker with motivation and work-life balance. More importantly, good jobs support workers in learning by doing — and, in so doing,
deliver benefits on three levels: to the worker, who gains in personal development and job
satisfaction; to the organization, which improves as employees find new problems to solve and opportunities to pursue; and to the community as a whole, which harvests the economic benefits of hosting positive organizations and workers. This is what makes good jobs productive for the
organization, as well as engaging and fulfilling for the worker.
Does the ongoing advance of AI threaten to get rid of all the learning, creativity, and
meaning that make a job a good job? Certainly, some have blamed technology for just such a
result. Headlines today often express concern over technological innovation (革新) resulting in bad jobs for humans, or even the complete disappearance of certain professions. Some fear that further technology advancement in the workplace will result in jobs where employees are being
asked to work in split times or for longer periods over more days.
The problem here isn't the technology; rather, it's the way the technology is used — and,
more than that, the way people think about using it.
    32. What is the passage mainly about?
    A. How to take care of the AI machines.
B.The relations among work, workers, and jobs.
    C. The human's fears in the age of AI.
    D. Human experiences were replaced by AI.
    33. What jobs are supposed to be good according to the passage?
    A. Those that mainly have the economic benefits.
B.The ones that offer chances to progress professionally.
    C. Those that make full use of workers'motivation.

    D. The ones that don't bring new problems to workers.
    34. How do news media respond to the development of AI?
    A. Negative. B. Supportive.
    C. Objective. D.Indifferent.
    35. What will the author probably talk about next?
A.The future jobs humans will do.
B.The possible application of AI in the future.
    C. The ways that humans do jobs.
    D. The proper attitude towards AI.

If you travel to nearly any Chinese city in the summertime, you will see people, mostly men
wearing T-shirts, sitting out on the sidewalks on low chairs in the shade, playing a game with
large round disks of wood. 36 Xiangqi dates back as early as the Warring States period.
While experts have different opinions as to who created Xiangqi and how it is linked to Western
chess, there is no doubt that by the Tang Dynasty Xiangqi was a popular game in China.
37 And in the 20th century both Sun Yat-sen and Zhou Enlai were big fans of the game.
And, though it may look quite a bit different than Western chess, Xiangqi is actually quite similar in what the pieces can do and how the game is played. Like Western chess, the object of
the game is to capture the other player's "king". 38
Unlike Western chess, instead of placing the pieces in squares, the pieces are placed on the intersections of lines. Another big difference between Western chess and Xiangqi is that there is
a large empty space in the middle of the board, which the elephants cannot cross. 39
This space refers to an area in China where Liu Bang and Xiang Yu had a life-or-death war. The war was so influential that"the Chu River and the Han Boundary"has become a metaphor(隐
喻)referring to any boundary between two opposing armies. When the Chinese people today see this name on the board, the battle scenes come to their mind, as though they are surrounded by
thick smoke, able to hear the beating of war drums. 40
    A. Actually, in Xiangqi he is just a general.
    B. During the Qing Dynasty its popularity grew.
    C. It is called"the Chu River and the Han Boundary"
    D. The game is called Xiangqi, a game of ordinary people.
    E. There are many differences between Xiangqi and Western chess.
    F. An intense battle is about to take place on this small chessboard.
    G. Several sayings related to Xiangqi are in common use in China today.

It's common to see a barista(咖啡师) create coffee art, but it is completely different to do 56 same thing with tea. It is called dian cha in Chinese, a tea art 57 (date) back to the Song Dynasty. Over the past six years, Han Zheming, a 40-year-old Shanghai designer, 58 (manage) to revive the ancient art form.
The process of dian cha begins 59 pouring hot water over fine powdered tea to make a paste, and then more hot water is added slowly as the tea is . 60 (constant) whisked(搅拌) by hand with a bamboo stick."The 61 (mix) usually requires whisking between 180 and 200 times before the froth appears."

Eartha lost her balance and fell heavily onto the floor."I'll never be as flexible as you are,
    Grandma."she sighed softly.
Eartha's Grandma had been practising yoga for more than 50 years, who could twist, bend and curl her body with ease. She could even stand on her hands and pull her body into different
    poses.
"Eartha, your name means 'patience'.You need patience for yoga," said her Grandma.
Like many schools in the country,Eartha's school held an annual yoga competition. Eartha wanted to make her Grandma proud. But she could hardly stand on one leg.
Grandma returned to the kitchen.Eartha kept practicing hard. She stood straight, her arms at her sides. She moved her hands and knees, arching her back. All of these poses were easy, while the competition was certain to be harder. So she tried more challenging poses, lying on her
stomach and pushing up on her hands. Her arms soon got tired and she collapsed to the floor.
    Eartha wandered into the kitchen.
    "Finished already?"asked Grandma.
"It's hard,"Eartha said."How did you get to be so strong?"
    Grandma smiled."Patience."
The next morning, Eartha felt ached and sore all over the body. Her legs hurt so badly from the poses she practiced that she even wanted to quit. However, her grandmother's words echoed in her mind, and she held the pose for a longer time.
Each day Eartha would practice a new pose, before going over the poses she had practiced the previous few days. With the date of the competition approaching, she started to feel stronger
and more flexible. Her arms and legs stopped trembling.
The day of the yoga competition arrived as expected. In the gym, Eartha lay on her back
with her knees bent and placed her hands on the floor behind her. Everything went smoothly.
Just then,so eager was she to win Grandma's pride that her poses displayed a mix of impatience, and rigidness. Eartha fell on the mat, which cost her edge over other competitors. A bell rang,
ending the first half of the competition.
