Do We Really Need Smart Cities?
Cities around the world are racing to become “smart”. It’s just like a classroom full of hard-working students. Take Toronto, Canada, for example. Technology (Tech) company Google has made a 1,500-page plan. It’s going to remake two neighborhoods with things like snow-melting (融雪的) roads.
To build smart cities, we need lots of new technologies, such as robots and artificial intelligence (AI). These technologies will lead to safer and more efficient cities. However, they will also raise questions about privacy (隐私).
But there is a more serious problem: Smart cities will be difficult to manage.
As we know all too well from our personal lives, sometimes tech products are not dependable. The Internet and our computers break down regularly. Tech products also age quickly. Only a few years into their lives, problems may become more and more common.
In smart cities, many basic systems and services, such as water services, are based on such tech products. What if they break down regularly? Can you imagine the result?
New technologies in 2020 will be outdated before 2025. If we use smart technologies widely in cities, we will need to be prepared to replace them every few years. But who would want to pay this bill?
The most important problem is whether having a smart city will make us better at solving city problems. Smart technologies can’t solve problems on their own. Suppose AI programs discover a road that needs to be repaired. It still requires people to do the job, doesn’t it?
As an engineer, I think smart technologies should have a place in cities. However, that place is not everywhere. For many of our city problems, we don’t really need the latest technologies. The best of the old ideas work better.
58.The underlined word “students” in Paragraph 1 refers to “_____”.
A.cities in Canada B.advanced technologies
C.cities around the world D.people living in the cities

A.The best of old ideas. B.Lots of new technologies.
C.More building materials. D.The Internet and computers.
61.The example of a road that needs to be repaired is used to show __________.
A.tech products break down regularly in smart cities
B.it is difficult and expensive to manage a smart city

D.many new technologies become outdated in five years
62.Which of the following titles is also suitable for this passage?
A.How People Build a Smart City B.The Smartest City in the World

When we hear the word “sport”, we usually think of football, basketball, the Olympic Games, and things like that. But isn’t a sport more than that? Different people have different answers.
Many people think that a sport must be hard for your body. But what about if you only need to think? Look at chess. There are chess competitions and chess stars. So is chess a sport? And do you need to be strong and fit to take part in a sport? What about Olympic shooting? You don’t have to be strong to do that.
One thing all sports need is the skill. A skill is something special you can do better than others. It is often a thing you learn, but some people have natural skills. Most people can learn to play football. But to be a really good football player, you need to be naturally quick and move well.
Then there are hobbies. Hobbies are special activities that we like to spend our time doing when we aren’t working. So a sport can be a hobby, but not all hobbies are sports. Painting and cooking are hobbies, __________. If your hobby is looking after your garden, people don’t call it a sport. But if you climb mountains — if you’re a mountaineer — many people will say you’re taking part in a sport. Maybe that’s because mountaineers compete.
Finally, what are games? Football is a game — but chess, video games, and hide-and-seek are games, too, each with its own rules. Is a game something we do just for fun? That’s also true for hobbies. And some games are clearly sports, but people don’t agree about others.
There are different activities. For some, you have to be fit and strong. For others, you have to be smart or quick.
But are they sports, games or hobbies? You decide.
63.What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 3 refer to?

A.People have to be strong to do them.
B.They are less interesting than hobbies.

D.Each of them has its own rules.
67.What’s the theme of the passage?
A.Games. B.Sports. C.Hobbies. D.The Olympics.
Have you ever watched a show about the wild? A shark eats a seal! Lions run down a gazelle! Is all nature like that? All about eating and blood? Or is that just what keeps our eyes glued to the TV screen? Let’s look at some living things who work with each other instead of ripping each other apart.
When a lion kills a gazelle, it wants to eat as much as it can and maybe share the rest with its family. There are some living things that will take small pieces of another living thing’s body. Parasitism is when one living thing gets its energy from another living thing, does not give anything back, and hurts the thing it’s taking things from.
Now let’s get a little nicer. Sometimes a living thing will live off the body of another living thing without hurting it. They do not steal anything. They do not bite. Commensalism is when two living things live together and one gets good things out of it while the other is not hurt by it. Have you seen a picture of a whale(鲸)with rocky white things stuck to its skin? Those are banacles(藤壶). They attach themselves to the whale, so nothing will try to eat them and they can eat things that float by.
Now let’s get realty nice. “While sharks are biting and lions are fighting, are there any animals that just get along? Yes! Actually, there are many. Mutualism is when two living things work together and both get good things out of it. Bees and flowers are the most common example. Without flowers, bees could not make honey. Without bees, flowers could not make new seeds. It’s a win-win for these two. There are lots of animals that get along. Birds will live on the backs of zebras and eat the ticks that are drinking the zebra’s blood. The bird gets food. The zebra gets its ticks taken away. In some of these cases, one animal could not live without the other.
We use the word “symbiotic(共生的)”for all of these kinds of relationships. Sometimes it’s good for one and bad for the other. Sometimes it’s just good for one. Sometimes it’s even good for both. So, it is nice to know that there are some living things out there that are finding ways to live together. We could pay attention to the animals that do not always make it on TV.
68.The writer mentioned a TV show about the wild in Paragraph 1 to __________.

71.What can we infer from the passage?
A.The world of living things remains to be explored.
B.More action should be taken to protect living things.
C.TV programmes about living things require to be improved.
D.More money will be spent on documentaries about living things
72.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
八、阅读还原7选5
Many people think insects are scary. 73 However, these little animals have some amazing abilities. Scratch the surface, and you will understand how special insects really are.
In fact, spider silk is a tough material. Did you know, for example, that the web spun(纺织)by a spider is twice as strong as steel with the same pound? 74 Imagine what we could do if we could find a way to make spider webs.
Insects are natural recyclers, too. When living matter dies, insects play a major role in helping to break down this material and return it to the soil. 75 Insects speed up the process, turning garbage into useful nutrition(营养)for the soil.
76 It’s hard to imagine growing enough food to feed us all in a world without insects. They help plants reproduce by moving pollen(花粉)from flower to flower.
77 Scientists study them because they have a short life. Many generations can be studied in a short time.
Insects truly are our friends and allies(伙伴). A world without insects would look a lot different. Think about that the next time you see a bee buzzing quietly over a garden, just be friendly to them.
A.Insects also provide us with food.
B.Insects are Earth’s most successful animals.
C.Most of us avoid them when we can, but it’s not easy to do.
D.They’re different from us, so that’s why many people fear them.

Good Teenagers of New Age
I’m glad to share my ideas about how to be good teenagers of new age after watching the show called “Good Teenagers of New Age”. First of all, I must love our country and home. And I should also be honest and thankful to the people who help us. Secondly, I should work hard and learn to be independent.
Next, I love reading and helping others who are in need because these things can make me happy. However, I don’t like doing exercise and I always play games for a long time. I hope to be a good teenager of new age.
