Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. And I was one of a group of climbers who decided to climb it to raise money for charity.
The hard climb and influences of altitude (海拔) have made everyone look tired. The group climbs silently through deep snow. The high altitude makes me feel terrible. People around me are just standing still as they try to get their breath. I try to encourage them to keep walking. When I check my watch, I see, with surprise, that I have been walking for three hours already. I feel as if I am fighting every step of the way. All I want to do is to turn round and go down, but I must reach the top! Each step I take makes me more and more dizzy (头晕的). My breathing is very rapid. Someone tells me we have another hour and a half to go.
I force my body to keep moving forward. I begin to lose my sense of balance and have to be really careful. Then I see Gilman’s Peak up ahead of me. We climb up the last few meters and suddenly I realize we’ve done it! We’re at the top of Africa!

五、阅读回答问题
阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题(请注意每小题的词数要求)。
There were at least sixty students in the school, far more than expected. I had thirty weeks to teach them the skills of public speaking. These shy and quiet students made me think of myself.
I was a shy boy and born with a speech difficulty. It took me six years to have special education classes to pronounce the forty-four sounds of the English language. One day I decided to make my voice heard, so I joined a debate (辩论) team to practice my speech skills.
I stuttered (结巴) more than I spoke at first. However, I started using the same tools I had learned to speak years ago—practice and time. Day by day, I began to talk a little louder both inside and outside of the debate. In a few months, I was still nervous, but with finding my voice, I found a power I could only dream of when I stood in silence so many years ago.
I gave these students my experience. As the weeks passed, the students began to find their voices. At the last class, I looked up and saw each of them standing bravely, ready to speak their minds. I couldn’t wait to see how far they could go from here.
Everyone has their own shortcomings (缺点). Many people can’t make themselves better because they can’t face them bravely. So with courage, time and practice, everyone can overcome them.

How is everything going? You asked me how to get along well with other classmates in your new class. Here are some ways that might help.
First of all, you should respect others. For instance, say hello to anyone around you, which can make them familiar with you as soon as possible. In addition, be friendly to people. If you are always ready to help them, they will understand you better. What’s more, it is better for you to take an active part in the activities after-class where you can show your talent and can make more friends who have the same interest with you. Finally, you should be willing to share the sadness and happiness with others.
I hope my advice will be helpful to you. May you be happy in your new school.
Yours,
Li Hua
