If your child has mobile Internet access, it will be more difficult to monitor (监督) and control his or her Internet use. Kids are turning to the Internet for everything from hanging out with friends to shopping, which makes it harder for parents to keep track of their online activities. Fortunately, there are many choices for controlling what your kids see on their computers, laptops, and mobile devices.
Content blockers and filters are great tools to use for younger kids. They allow you more control over where they go and what they do online. A content blocker can block some unhealthy websites or limit a child’s search to the kind of sites. A content filter can scan sites and pictures and block those sites that contain certain words, key phrases, or content.
Consider tracking software for older teenagers. This software enables you to see which sites your children have visited, tracking their path online. This tool gives young people more freedom to explore the Internet, but it also allows you to check that they are using the Internet responsibly. Let your teenagers know that you trust them, but that you will be regularly checking if they are visiting appropriate sites online.
Even if you use content blockers, filters, and trackers, you know that a lot of kids figure out ways to get around these, so it’s important to remain alert. Remember that not all adult sites can be identified by blocker, filter, or tracker software. That’s why it’s important to talk to your kids about what to do when something inappropriate or scary comes up. Nothing can replace involvement and supervision(监督) by adults. Keep monitoring how your kids use the Internet on a regular basis without getting into the role of Internet traffic police.

While Jennifer was at home taking an online exam for her business law class, a monitor(监控器) a few hundred miles away was watching her every move.
Using a Web camera equipped in Jennifer’s Los Angeles apartment, the monitor in Phoenix tracked how frequently her eyes moved from the computer screen and listened for the secret sounds of a possible helper in the room. Her Internet access was locked remotely to prevent Internet searches, and her typing style was analysed to make sure she was who she said she was: Did she enter her student number at the same speed as she had in the past? Or was she slowing down?
In the battle against cheating, this is the cutting edge and a key to encouraging honesty in the booming field of online education. The technology gives trust to the entire system, to the institution and to online education in general. Only with solid measures against cheating, experts say, can Internet universities show that their exams and diplomas are valid—that students haven’t searched the Internet to get the right answers.
Although online classes have existed for more than a decade, the concern over cheating has become sharper in the last year with the growth of “open online courses”. Private colleges, public universities and corporations are jumping into the online education field, spending millions of dollars to attract potential students, while also taking steps to help guarantee honesty at a distance.
Aside from the Web cameras, a number of other high-tech methods are becoming increasingly popular. Among them are programmes that check students’ identities by using personal information, such as the telephone numbers they once used.
Other programmes can produce unique exams by drawing on a large list of questions and can recognise possible cheaters by analysing whether difficult test questions are answered at the same speed as easy ones. As in many university classes, term papers are scanned against some large Internet databanks for cheating.
28. Why was Jennifer watched in an online exam?
A. To correct her typing mistakes.
B. To find her secrets in the room.
C. To keep her from dishonest behaviour.
D. To prevent her from slowing down.
解析:细节理解题。根据第二段中的“... and her typing style was analysed to make sure she was who she said she was: Did she enter her student number at the same speed as she had in the past?” 可知,监控珍妮弗的原因是为了确保她不作弊。故选C项。

There is no such thing as a quick Web search. For example, you just want to look up one thing. But before you know it, you are likely to find more than 37 sites, and 45 minutes are likely to be wasted on what should be a 30-second exercise.
We used to waste our spare time in front of the TV. There is an old saying: No one can become successful sitting on the couch watching TV. The same is true of the Internet. And endlessly surfing the Web isn’t going to get your goals done. Nor is it going to magically make you successful. So reduce your endless surfing. But what should you do?
If you really need to get work done without being disturbed, turn off the Internet. Use “airplane mode” on your phone. If you need a better way to do that, there are software apps that will let you block certain websites for a certain amount of time. For example, such an app blocks news, Facebook, Twitter and so on, but still lets you do your work, research, etc.
These days, information can be easily found through a click or Web search. But do you really need to know the answer to every bit of trivia(琐事) that pops up in the course of your day? Try not to immediately look everything up on Wikipedia. That one search could end up costing you hours of time.
If you must search the Internet, set a time limit on your Web adventure. You’d better set an actual time. This can prevent you from staying online for too long. Leave the Internet immediately when you’re reminded to do that.
When you are surfing the Web, you may want to keep reading each linked(链接的) article. A great way to stop this is to save “other” articles and read them later. Use an app to save those articles. This allows you to save important information while preventing you from endlessly reading now.
32. What does the author want to show in paragraph 1?
A. It’s easy for us to waste time online.
B. A quick Web search can be helpful.
C. It takes time to find useful information online.
D. There are many types of information on the Web.
解析:推理判断题。根据文章第一句可知,上网搜索没有便捷搜索引擎,这样可能导致在网上浪费很多时间,故选A。
答案:A
33. What are the software apps mentioned in paragraph 3 used for?
A. Blocking some advertisements online.
B. Blocking some social network websites.
C. Preventing us from getting connected to certain websites.
D. Providing us with certain websites for entertainment.
解析:细节理解题。根据“... there are software apps that will let you block certain websites for a certain amount of time. For example, such an app blocks news, Facebook, Twitter and so on, but still lets you do your work, research, etc.”可知,提到的app可以阻止你和特定的网站连接,故选C项。
答案:C
34. What does the author suggest doing in paragraph 5?
A. Staying away from the Internet.
B. Not staying online for too long.
C. Not reading other linked articles online.
D. Setting a time limit while surfing the Web.
解析:推理判断题。根据“If you must search the Internet, set a time limit on your Web adventure.”可知,设定上网时间,有助于防止你在网上浪费太多时间,故选D项。
答案:D
35. What would be the best title for the text?

B. Some Great Apps to Help Save Time Online

Addicted to playing online games, you are not only wasting your valuable time but also hurting the feelings of your parents. Your parents love you so much that they are trying every effort to make your life better. Therefore, wouldn’t it be reasonable for you to respect them, have a talk with them and apologise?Meanwhile, you should manage your time more wisely and find some meaningful ways to spend your free time.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I bought my silver Labrador(拉布拉多犬) in the spring, I loved her so much that I named her Lucy. At first, she was still fairly new to my 80-acre family farm. Days later, Lucy was playing with my sister’s dog, Plank, while I repaired a tractor on my farm.
The dogs eventually wandered down to a neighbour’s yard. Suddenly, I heard a couple of gunshots. My sister’s dog came back, and he was terrified. At that point, I tried to look for Lucy and she never came back. I spent days searching for my dog in fields and forests for miles with no luck.
Talking with the neighbours, I found Lucy was last seen playing with my neighbour’s young daughter. But the family didn’t know who Lucy belonged to, and they assumed since she was wearing a collar(颈圈), she’d find her way back home. At that point, I knew Lucy wasn’t shot and she was still alive.
As the days turned into weeks, I made posters with photos of Lucy, putting up the posters for miles and distributing them to my area’s animal shelters and vets. I also posted photo after photo of Lucy on the Internet, hoping someone might recognize her. Many reached back and shared my posters, but no one had seen Lucy. My biggest fear was that she was stuck in the rocks or something like that. Not knowing was just the hardest thing—not knowing her condition or where she was.
Summer turned into fall and winter, and the possibility of finding my dog was really small. My friends were trying to comfort me and said, “Well you know, she’s probably not going to come back and you may have to get a different dog. ” But I refused and wanted to find Lucy.
注意:

Prater had come to my area in July to camp when she found Lucy. As a vet, Prater knew this dog was just terrified and got lost. She opened up her car door, and Lucy jumped right in. Prater spent hours trying to find the lost dog’s owner, going from house to house. She contacted local animal rescue groups, but no one had reported a missing dog.
