Researchers at Stanford University have developed a new material that can move heat out of buildings and into space. The researchers say the material can cool buildings even on hot days.
The cooling material is a very thin board with many layers that could be placed on a roof like solar panels(板). However, instead of turning sunlight into energy as solar panels do,the material turns heat into radiation. Shanhui Fan is an electrical engineering professor at Stanford University. He says that the panels have a layer of material that is like sand and they act like a mirror, taking heat out of buildings and reflecting the light from the sun. He also says both the heat and sunlight are sent 100 kilometers into outer space. It’s a structure that cools itself without electricity input, even in the sun. So, what it does is basically radiating(发散) heat to outer space and also reflecting the sunlight so it doesn’t get heated up by the sun. Mr. Fan says, “It is like having a window into space. The heat is sent directly into space without warming the air.”
He says buildings in developing countries that do not have electricity or air conditioning(空气调节) could use the panels. “In areas where electricity is out of reach for many people, there is a benefit for storing medicine or even food. In many of these situations, being able to reduce the temperature is important. And this would provide a way to do it.”
The Stanford researchers described their technology in the science publication Nature. The researchers say the main problem is creating actual cooling systems using the high-tech panels. They say it may be possible to develop a cooling spray(喷涂) that could be used on present solid structures. They believe the cooling spray technology could be developed in the next three to five years. They say as much as 15 percent of the energy used in the United States is spent providing power to air conditioning systems.
4.The underlined word “reflecting” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.
A.turning off B.focusing on C.throwing back
5.How does the new material work?
A.It sends heat away right into space.
B.It has a window to let out the heat.
C.It takes in the heat and cools it down.
6.What does the last paragraph mainly discuss?
A.The various uses of cooling materials.
B.The characteristics of cooling technology.
C.The future development of cooling technology.
7.Which of the following shows the structure of the whole text?

My First Marathon (马拉松)
A month before my first marathon, one of my knees was hurt and this meant not running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Yet, I decided to go ahead.
I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class, the teacher asked us to run and then hit a ball. I didn’t do either well. He later told me that I was “not athletic”. That is to say, I was not good at sports.
The idea that I was “not athletic” went with me for years. When I started running in my thirties, I realized running was a fight against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the fight against my own body and mind.
The night before my marathon, I dreamed that I couldn’t even find the finish line. I woke up sweating (流汗) all over, but I had a strong mind to face the challenge (挑战).
Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces (鞋带) became undone. So I had to stop to tie them again. Not the start I wanted!
At mile 3, I passed a sign: “GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!”
By mile 17, I became out of breath and my knee hurt badly. Though feeling very painful, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.
By mile 21, I was quite hungry and thirsty!
As I drew closer to mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my cost on running.
I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal (奖牌). In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the man who came in the first place had.
Decide to be myself, move forward, free of shame and worldly labels (标签), I can now call myself a “marathon winner”.
根据短文内容,选择最佳答案。

二、阅读还原5选4
A problem is only a problem until there is a solution (解决办法). We find solutions by thinking creatively. 12 In other words, we think outside the box. Sometimes, thinking outside the box solves not just one, but two problems.
Amsterdam is one of the most crowded cities in Europe. As a result, housing is very expensive, especially for students. 13 However, finding this type of apartments was almost impossible until recently.
While the colleges in Amsterdam were trying to solve the housing problem, thousands of shipping containers(集装箱)were lying quietly in ports around the world. These huge steel containers carry products from one country to another. The life of each container is about 10 years. 14 Yet they can’t recycle all of them because there are so many.
Back in Amsterdam, a company came up with an amazing idea. Why not reuse these shipping containers as student apartments? 15 They are all the same size and fit together perfectly. The steel is strong. Moreover, these containers are so widely available that they are quite cheap to buy. For all these reasons, they can be used to build apartments quickly and cheaply. Building began in 2005, and after only a few weeks, hundreds of Amsterdam students had new homes.
When students first heard about this idea, they thought the containers apartments would be small, noisy and cold. However, they were surprised when they saw them. Each container apartment has a kitchen, a bedroom with a study area, and a bathroom. The apartments are warm and quiet. They even have a high-speed Internet connection. Living in a shipping container has become popular. Today, over 3,000 Amsterdam students live in the container village.
根据短文内容,从下列选项中选出能填入文中空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。
A.Students need low-cost apartments.
B.The containers are great for building apartments.
C.In fact, these apartments are not in good condition.

五、阅读回答问题
阅读短文,回答下面5个问题。(每题答案不超过10个词)
You don’t know me unless you read a book called The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Huck’s my name, Huckleberry Finn. That book ends like this: my best friend, Tom Sawyer, and I found $12,000 in gold in a cave. We became rich. We got $6,000 each.
My mother died long ago and then my dad, Pap, disappeared. He was always drunk and he often beat me. Then a kind old lady called Widow Douglas took me into her home to live. She gave me a bed to sleep in and bought new clothes for me. She read stories to me and taught me how to eat at a table. She sent me to school every day.
I hated those new clothes. I missed my old life. I put on my old clothes and ran away and was free and happy, but Tom Sawyer found me and said that if I wanted to join his club, I would have to return to live with the widow. For this reason, I returned to live with her.
The months passed and winter came. The weather got cold. One morning I woke up and there was snow on the ground. On my way to school I saw some footprints outside the widow’s house. My heart jumped. Pap!
“He’s heard about my money,” I thought. “And he wants it! ”
When I lit my candle and went up to my room that night, there sat Pap—his own self! I expected to be scared of him now, but I wasn’t. I stood looking at him; he set there—looking at me.
Pap was nearly fifty years old. His black hair was long and uncombed and dirty. He had allowed hair to grow on his face, which was ghostly white. Just looking at the ugly white skin made me feel sick. His clothes? —dirty and torn. His feet showed through large holes in his shoes. His hat was on the floor—an old black hat with a large hole in it.
