(1) It is a time…意为“这是一个……的时刻/时间”。
It is a time for children to show thanks to their fathers.这是孩子们向父亲表达谢意的时刻。
(2) 辨析:among与between
among
在……之中
表示在三者或三者以上的人或物之中。
between
在……之间
表示在两者之间,也可表示三者或三者以上的人或物中的每两者之间。between…and…意为“在……和……之间”
The baby is sitting among the students.这个小孩正坐在学生之中。
The baby is sitting between Lucy and Jack.这个小孩正坐在露西和杰克之间。
2. People make short speeches and give thanks for their food.人们作简短的致辞,为食物而感恩。
give thanks (to sb.) for (doing) sth.意为“对(某人)(做了)某事表示感激”。
Let us give thanks to our friends for coming here.让我们对朋友们的到来表示感谢。
3. The local people, the Native Americans, taught the pioneers how to grow corn.当地人,也就是美洲印第安人,教这些拓荒者如何种植玉米。
how to grow corn是“疑问词+动词不定式”结构,此处在句中作宾语。
know, teach, show, ask, wonder, decide, tell等动词后可接该结构作宾语。

The kids wondered where to take the vacation.孩子们想知道在哪儿度假。
4. We lay the table…我们摆放餐桌……
lay the table 意为“摆放餐桌”。lay (laid, laid)在此处用作及物动词,意为“摆放(餐桌)”。
Mother told me to lay the table for breakfast.母亲让我摆好餐桌准备吃早饭。
