(2023·浙江杭州·统考一模)ChatGPT was released (发布) late last year by company OpenAI. The technology chats in a conversational way, answering questions from users. The online chatbot (chat robot) has been trained on lots of information from the Internet—it can have a human-like conversation answering questions, admitting (承认) mistakes and refusing to answer improper questions. Experts say it can be used to write articles, stories, poems and even solve computer problems. But there are limits (限制) to what it can do, which OpenAI admits. Sometimes it writes answers which are incorrect or don’t make sense, and it sometimes guesses what the user has asked it instead of asking more follow-up questions to understand the questions better.
ChatGPT is getting mixed opinions from people. Some think students might use it to cheat, while others think they should use the tool in the classroom to help children learn. Some people believe that _______▲_______. In their opinion, just like when Google was created, people were unsure at first, but if teachers introduce the technology and teach students the advantages but also the disadvantages, that can help with their learning. In the USA, the New York City education office didn’t allow ChatGPT to be used at school and its Internet. They did so because of “bad influence on students’ learning, and worries that the answers from ChatGPT are probably not safe or correct”.
ChatGPT’s ability to answer questions caused some users to wonder if it might take Google’s place. Others asked if news reporters’ jobs were at risk. ChatGPT and other AI systems, have also raised a number of social risks, according to Carly Kind of the Ada Lovelace Institute, an independent research center to make sure AI works for people. Among the possible problems of AI, Ms. Kind mainly worries that AI might store the false information forever.
AI has a long way to go, and big ideas yet to discover. We will fall over along the way, and learn a lot from getting in touch with the real world.

① Type in “Can a cat go to space? ” and ask ChatGPT to write a bedtime story. Just one second later, you’ll get the story of Max, who made his way past many difficulties to sing among the stars.
② Developed by US company OpenAI, ChatGPT has won 100 million users since it came out in November 2022. People can ask the robot to write stories and emails, translate languages and answer all kinds of questions. Compared with Siri or other chat robots, ChatGPT uses a much bigger database (数据库) for training. It also uses stronger software and hardware to learn things by itself. “It’s a totally different product,” computer scientist Liu Xiaoguang from Nankai University told Tianjin Daily. “The knowledge level ChatGPT shows is similar to that of a university graduate. That’s why it shocked the world.”
③ According to a US survey of more than 1,000 students, over 89 percent of them have used ChatGPT to help with a homework task. Some schools in the US, Australia and France have stopped the use of ChatGPT. The move comes out of worries that the tool could make it easier for students to cheat on schoolwork. Some also worry that ChatGPT could be used to spread incorrect information. “It does not build critical-thinking (批判性思维) and problem-solving skills, which are necessary for academic (学术的) and lifelong success,” said Jenna Lyle from New York City Department of Education.
④ However, not all educators say “no” to ChatGPT. Some Canadian universities are making rules on its use, for both students and teachers. They have no plans to completely stop the tool so far. Bhaskar Vira, from the University of Cambridge in the UK, thinks that it is not wise to stop AI software like ChatGPT. “We have to know that AI is a tool people will use,” he added.

(2023·浙江杭州·统考一模)Getting less sleep has become a bad habit for most American kids. According to a new survey by the National Sleep Foundation, 51% of kids aged 10 to 18 go to bed at 10 p.m. or later on school nights, even though they have to get up early. Last year the Foundation reported that nearly 60% of 7- to 12-year-olds said they felt tired during the day, and 15% said they had fallen asleep at school.
How much sleep you need depends a lot on your age. Babies need a lot of rest: most of them sleep about 18 hours a day! Adults need about eight hours. For most school-age children, ten hours is needed. But the new National Sleep Foundation survey found that 35% of 10- to12-year-olds get only seven or eight hours. And guess what almost half of the surveyed kids said they do before bedtime? Watch TV.
“More children are going to bed with TVs on, and there are more chances to stay awake, with more homework, the Internet and the phone,” says Dr Mary Carskadon, a sleep researcher at Brown University Medical School. She says these activities at bedtime can get kids all excited and make it hard for them to calm down and sleep. Other experts say part of the problem is chemical. Changing levels of body chemicals called hormones (荷尔蒙) not only make teenagers’ bodies develop adult characteristics, but also make it hard for teenagers to fall asleep before 11 p.m.
Because sleepiness is such a problem for teenagers, some school districts have decided to start high school classes later than they used to. Three years ago, schools in Edina, Minnesota changed the start time from 7:25 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Students, parents and teachers are pleased with the result.
18.What is the new National Sleep Foundation survey on?
A.American kids’ sleeping habits.
B.Teenagers’ sleep-related illnesses.
C.Activities to stop sleeplessness.
D.Ways to solve sleeping problems.
19.How many hours of sleep do 11-year-olds need every day?
A.7 hours. B.8 hours. C.10 hours. D.18 hours.
20.Why do teenagers go to sleep late according to Carskadon?
A.Because they are influenced by certain body chemicals.
B.Because they are excited by some bedtime activities.
C.Because they are forced to do a lot of homework.
D.Because they are allowed to go to school late.
21.Where can we probably read this passage?
A.In a news report.
B.In a science fiction.
C.In a fashion weekly.
D.In a health magazine.
(2023·河南三门峡·统考一模)The chatbot ChatGPT, developed by American company OpenAI, has amazed the world since its launch in late 2022.
More than a million people tried the tool. Students can ask the tool to solve a math problem, translate languages or write an essay, songs, etc. The tool then gives a well-written answer. ChatGPT can get creative. It has the complete writing range of a real person! The power of ChatGPT also lies in its speed. We may spend hours researching and writing an article on something. But ChatGPT can produce a well-written one in seconds. Another good thing about it is that if you ask harmful questions, such as how to make weapons, it will not give you an answer.
This new research, however, has not been welcomed in education as expected. Faced with the threat of ChatGPT, the education community in many countries began to take measures. (2023·河北保定·统考一模)Do you live in a city? You’ve probably noticed how noisy and crowded cities can be. What if you could live next to a tranquil lake or river instead?
As it turns out, living near water, such as seas, lakes, or rivers, can help us feel both happier and healthier. Those who live less than a kilometer from the coast (海岸) have less mental (心理的) health problems than those who live 50 km or more away, according to a study by scientists from the UK. People who visit the coast at least twice a week usually experience better health, too.
So how does a “blue space” make us feel better? For one thing, The environments around the water always have less pollution and more sunlight, both of which are related (相关的) to better health. People who get more sun are always happier than those who do not.
There’s also the air above the sea. After spending time near the sea, you might find that you feel more relaxed than usual. This is because sea air is full of negative ions (负离子). These ions balance our levels of serotonin (血清素). They can have an influence on our feelings. With balanced serotonin levels, we feel more calm and relaxed.

(2023·江苏苏州·统考一模)Braille is a special reading and writing system. People who are blind can use it to read by touch. In the Braille letters, raised dots(点) spell out words and numbers. High level Braille even uses short symbols for common words, like when someone texts “ttyl” instead of “talk to you later.”
Recently, researchers have discovered that some people who read Braille by touch use the same part of their brains to read as people who can see do. They studied the brains of blind readers as they touch-read Braille. If brains were organized based on which sense is at work, the researchers explained, the test would mostly find activity in the readers’ parietal lobes(顶叶)—an area of the brain connected with touch. Instead, the researchers also found activity in the area connected with sight.
How would touch information reach a brain area usually used to see? Researchers believe the process connects to our brains’ abilities to change. They explain that in people who are born blind, the area used for seeing goes unused. However, the brain quickly begins to recruit unused areas for new jobs, including language, hearing, and finally reading and math. It does this by forming new connections among the neurons(神经元). This can change how information reaches different areas in the brain.
This ability of our brains to reorganize after an injury(损伤) or other challenge is called plasticity. The brain is most plastic at birth. Research has shown that people born blind use the area of the brain connected with sight during Braille reading more than those who lost their sight later on. However, the brain seems to never lose the ability. A recent study showed that sighted people who read Braille skillfully also showed some activity in the area of the brain connected with sight. They only touched the Braille text without seeing it. It seems that our brains are good at breaking the rules and dealing with information in new ways.
32.What can we know about Braille according to Paragraph 1?
A.High level Braille uses words more often.
B.The blind read Braille by touching the raised dots.
C.People use it to text to others through mobile phone.
D.It’s a difficult reading and listening system for the blind.
33.In which part of the brain was the activity found as the blind read Braille?
A.The area only connected with touch. B.The area only connected with sight.
C.The areas connected with both touch and sight. D.The area connected with neither touch nor sight.
34.Which word has the same meaning as the underlined word “recruit” in Paragraph 3?
A.We were recruited to help collect donations for the charity.
B.Our mind will recruit different resources to help us solve problems.
C.John was a young recruit in the organization and needed to be trained.
D.I wanted to make my mark as the new officer at a recruit training center.
35.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Sighted people may have great brain plasticity.
B.Only injured and disabled people can have plasticity.
C.Sighted people can’t read Braille as well as the blind.
D.Our brains will lose the ability to reorganize when we grow up.

34.词句猜测题。根据“However, the brain quickly begins to recruit unused areas for new jobs, including language, hearing, and finally reading and math”可知,当大脑的某一区域“闲置”时,大脑会组建这些未使用区域用以其他功能,故文章划线部分意为“组建,组成”,B选项“我们的大脑会组建不同的资源来帮助我们解决问题”中的“recruit”与其意思一致。A选项中的recruit意为“动员”,C选项中的recruit意为“新成员”,D选项中的recruit意为“新兵”。故选B。
35.推理判断题。根据“A recent study showed that sighted people who read Braille skillfully also showed some activity in the area of the brain connected with sight…It seems that our brains are good at breaking the rules and dealing with information in new ways.”可知,不只是盲人,视力正常的人也可以阅读盲文,这说明他们的大脑可能具有可塑性。故选A。
