At age 16, he left school to focus on soccer full-time. Soon, he was moving up the ranks, getting noticed by scouts(星探)in the Premier League. She has been by his side throughout the entire journey. When asked by a journalist why his mother still lives with him, he said, “My mother raised me and she devoted her life to me. She would go to sleep hungry, just to let me eat. We had no money at all. She worked seven days a week and nights as a maid to buy my first shoes so I could be a player. All my success is due to her. For motorcycle enthusiasts, nothing beats the excitement of riding your motorcycle on the open highway with the wind on your back. With gas prices going up. motorcycles are economical and a much greener way to travel.
Along with the benefits comes the risk of personal injury if an accident occurs. After all, you’re not protected by steel like you are while driving your car. But besides wearing a helmet, the latest safety innovations are personal airbags that you can wear.
Airbags have been protecting people in car accidents for decades. Now, a Swedish company, Mo’cycle, has made jeans that can be filled with air for motorcycle riders. The jeans are designed to offer protection for the rider’s lower body in case of an accident. The airbag jeans look like conventional pants and are reusable. They are made of a special material which is stronger and weighs less than steel. The airbag component is removable and the jeans can be washed, dried, and worn again.
The jeans help to reduce damage from roadways after a fall. The airbags help cushion(缓冲)the rider if he or she falls off the motorcycle. Mo’cycle teamed up with airbag technology company Helite to design and produce the airbags. The airbags are actually built into the jeans and are triggered(触发)in milliseconds if the rider is separated from the vehicle.
This innovative technology is designed to safeguard motorcycle riders by protecting the lower body areas that have not been previously covered, like the riders’ upper legs, the lower waist, and especially the tailbone! According to the company, “It is revolutionary to use airbag technology to protect the lower part of the backbone, because backbone injuries are what disable motorcycle riders.”
Mo’cycle’s airbag jeans are on sale on the company’s crowdfunding campaign along with an airbag vest and a complete protection package. Making the roads safer for motorcyclists is certainly a worthy effort. So the next time you have an urge to ride, make sure you put on protective device before you hit the open road.
28. Why are airbags in cars mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A. To illustrate how to use airbags.
B. To compare cars and motorcycles.
C. To introduce the topic of airbag jeans.
D. To show the best way to protect drivers.
29. What does Paragraph 4 mainly tell us about the airbag jeans?
A. Their production and sales. B. Their designs and appearance.
C. Their materials and components. D. Their functions and working principle.
30. What do we know about Mo’cycle’s airbag jeans from the last paragraph?
A. They are available. B. They need to be improved.
C. They keep passers-by safe. D. They inspire an urge to ride.
31. What can be the best title of this text?
A. Safety Rules for Motoreyelists B. Airbag Jeans for Motorcyclists
C. Risks that Motorcyclists Face D. Innovation in the Clothing Industry
D
Homes are usually warmed with radiators(暖气片). Some homes are warmed by floor heating. Now, a new way of heating is being developed by using the “wallpaper” on your walls. This wallpaper is not decorative. It actually goes under and not over the wall—electrically heats a room. And this type of heating technology heats objects, even people, instead of the air and this helps you feel warmer.
The electric heating panels which are hidden in the wall are connected to the main electrical panels of your home. Each room can be used independently through an app so you do not have to heat unused rooms. It takes around 20 minutes to heat a room.
With rising prices for home heating, the panels seemed like the right way to go. “It makes me happy that I don’t rely on gas.” Kris Bilski, an early user, said. An estimated 23 million homes in the UK are connected to the gas grid(网)but the government wants to phase out gas-fired boilers by 2035. Home heating is responsible for 17 percent of greenhouse gas emissions so removing fossil fuel-based heating will help the environment.
The new electric heating systems are available for private homes and the company is currently testing the new technology in public housing in some cities. The versions being tested can be installed(安装)while people are still living in the apartment so it makes installation a lot easier.
Heating your home with this type of technology does not heat your water so an additional heating system is required but an energy efficient heater can be used.
While the wallpaper is greener, electricity in the UK is very costly so it is not an economic way to heat homes unless there is a renewable energy source like solar panels used. Still, reducing the dependance on fossil fuels will go a long way to green the UK and help the country meet its climate targets.
32. What is special about the wallpaper compared with radiators?
A. It is decorative. B. It is traditional. C. It is unseen. D. It is more efficient.
33. What does the underlined phrase “phase out” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Stop using. B. Improve greatly.
C. Restore gradually. D. Finish developing.
34. What is one of the advantages of wallpaper heating system?
A. It looks beautiful. B. It’s easy to be fitted.
C. It heats up instantly. D. It fits all buildings.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards the use of this wallpaper heating system in the UK?
A. Skeptical. B. Optimistic. C. Enthusiastic. D. Disapproving.

At the cafeteria table, I overheard my new colleague say, “I hate going home tonight, because we have to get rid of our dog.” I said, “Oh, no! Is your dog ill?” She replied, “No, she’s fine, just not a fit for our family. No one wants her, so it’s best we give it away.”
Coming from a family whose home could be a petting zoo, I was shocked to think that people could be so heartless. Worried by this dog’s fate, I asked my new co-worker a few questions. She shared that the dog’s name was Lady. She was a German Shepherd and had been trained for a year and a half as a guide dog for the blind. Unfortunately, Lady failed her final test because she demanded too many hugs after completing her tasks. I begged the woman to give me a little time to reach out to my mom as we would consider taking her. With my talent for dramatic storytelling and my mom’s compassionate heart, I knew Lady would have a home with us.
After work, I drove to pick up Lady. An old woman greeted me at the door, leading me to the kitchen. There sat the beautiful but very thin dog, sitting in the corner licking and scratching her right paw. “She did that to herself,” the woman said as she pointed to the injured paw. She continued, “That dog is hopeless!” The woman then took a broom and pushed the dog to stand. Lady had tears in her eyes when I led her outside.
There were no goodbyes from this family, just a sense of relief that Lady was no longer their problem. I sat on the sidewalk with her and introduced myself. For me, it was love at first sight. She had perfect markings, a delicate, beautiful face, but the saddest eyes. “Lady,” I said, “I’m taking you to your new home with my family who will always love you. Please give us a chance.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

第二节(满分25分)
As I pulled into our driveway, my mom was waiting with open arms and delicious dog treats. We led Lady to our family room where my mom had placed a huge comforter on the floor just for her. My mom hoped to build a relationship with Lady with an act of love. Days passed and my mom made many more generous moves to Lady, but she remained distant. Lady just spent most of the time hiding in her place, licking and scratching her paw, refusing Mom to help her with the injured paw. This went on for a few frustrating weeks.
One day, to win Lady’s trust, my mo m led Lady to her bedroom. She had a face-to-face talk with Lady. Hours passed, by the end of the day Lady’s pa w was bandaged, and both she and my mom walked out of the room side by side. It was as though Lady did understand my mom’s words of acceptance. From then on, Lady became a member of our family. We had a combination of playmate and protector who shared our secrets, laughs, tears and hugs. Every night at 2:00 a. m., Lady regularly made her rounds, checking to see that we were all at home. Only then would she rest.
