In the late 1990s, a family visited the school where I taught deaf students. They said they would be moving here and planned to send their deaf daughter to my school as a first grader. They were upset that their child’s kindergarten teacher told them not to have high hopes for her academically. Based upon assessment results, the teacher painted a bleak picture for their little girl’s future. Standing behind them was Katherine, a beautiful five-year-old with long hair and dark eyes. The whole time her parents were there, and she didn’t make a sound or use sign language, even when her parents prompted her.
After a few weeks with Katherine. I discovered I was dealing with a very bright, very strong-willed child. Although I was able to engage her in a variety of learning activities, writing was a constant struggle. I tried all kinds of trickery to interest her in writing. Every time the pencils came out, she would shut down and refuse to write.
One day Katherine got off her bus and stood in front of the school wailing. The staff members present did not know enough sign language to ask her why she was crying. Finally they quickly took her into the office where they handed her a pen and a notepad. Katherine wrote:“PAC BAK.”. Immediately the office staff realized she left her backpack on the bus. They summoned(召唤)the bus back to school and soon Katherine was reunited with her backpack.
That day Katherine discovered the power of the pen. From then on she had a new appreciation for writing. She is a young woman now and has become an excellent writer, public speaker and student leader. In the summer of 2008 I traveled to the National Association of the Deaf Conference in New Orleans and watched her perform competitively as Miss Deaf Colorado. Kathy keeps in touch and I especially treasure her e-mails with term papers attached. This young lady wields a very powerful pen!

B. What a kind group the staff were!
C. Why Katherine could make a change.
D. Where her backpack was found.

In Wang Jinsong’s childhood, shadow puppetry(皮影戏), a theatrical performance that uses the shadow of puppets(木偶)cast onto a screen, was a form of children’s entertainment. Wang referred to the folk art as“magic”, not because of the performers’ techniques, but because of the happiness the art used to bring to the village in the old days. Dating back to 2, 000 years, shadow puppetry combines painting, carving, opera, literature and music. Today, it still provides a lot of inspiration for Chinese cartoons, captivating generations of audiences.
At the same time, different schools appeared in different places, such as Shanxi Province, Beijing and Hebei Province. Tangshan shadow play belongs to the Hebei branch. Going through ups and downs in the last 400 years, it has developed into an established school. “It has had a great impact on the development of many shadow puppetry schools in North China,” Wang said.
In Tangshan shadow puppetry, artists handle their puppets on strings behind the screen while one artist tells a story through song, at times improvising(即兴表演)as they go along. “The song’s scripts are the most difficult part to inherit,” Wang said. In the past, students could only learn them by carefully taking in their teacher’s performance. Due to low income and extensive training, young people today were less willing to study shadow play.
Fortunately, its development has gained attention. In 2016, shadow play was included on the national cultural heritage list. It’s been introduced in schools as part of local culture, and has gained many more young fans this way. According to Wang, the Tangshan Shadow Puppetry Troupe has been receiving more government support and provides viewers with more innovative and high-quality performances.
In 2019, Tangshan built a park themed on this art where visitors can learn more about the culture and history of shadow puppetry. “We hope to revive(复活)the ancient art in a modern and fun way,” Li Shaohui, manager of the park told Xinhua News Agency.

29. What is the attitude towards the future of shadow puppetry according to Wang Jinsong?
A. Objective. B. Indifferent C. Depressed. D. Optimistic.
30. Which statement about Tangshan shadow play is NOT true?
A. It is part of the Hebei branch.
B. It is popular with more young people.
C. It has a history of 400 years as a school.
D. It has influenced many shadow puppetry schools.
31. What’s the main idea of the text?
A. Chinese shadow puppetry is in danger at present.
B. It’s about the origin of China’s art of shadow puppetry.
C. Tangshan shadow puppetry went through many ups and downs.
D. It introduces the development of China’s art of shadow puppetry.
D
Growing up, we are constantly reminded that young people are the most affected by technology. We are the“antisocial social club”, those who prefer to text our friends in the same room rather than having to make eye-contact with them. And even though never-ending studies reveal to us the extent of our social media addiction, warning us that we are slowly turning into tech-zombies, we should at least consider that it’s not only us young ones any more.
There’s the rise of the Instagram mums, who like to post an abundance of cute baby pictures, showing their seemingly put-together lifestyles and sharing their many mom-feelings along the way. They are the so-called“Facebook mum generation”, a growing group of parents that like to overshare and, in the process, are slowly pushing out young people who can’t bear to see another one of mum’s embarrassing selfies(自拍照).
Actually, new research suggests that parents’ technology addiction is negatively affecting their children’s behaviour. According to the study, 40%of mothers and 32%of fathers have admitted to having some sort of phone addiction. This has led to a significant fall in verbal(口头的)interactions within families and even a decline in mothers encouraging their children.
There is no denying that I get annoyed when I receive the “I’ll be with you shortly line” from a parent, when all I want to do is ask one question. But, at the same time, leaving the room to wait until my father is finished with his“serious business”, has now become the norm(常态). Whether you want to escape your pestering children for a bit, or want to stay up late flicking through Twitter, know that wanting to do all of this is normal. We-yourchildren--know how addictive it can be and how difficult it is to switch off. But before telling us to“put our phones away at the table”or even worse, pulling up statisties of how damaging social media can be for us, maybe lead by example and consider how much time you spend on the phone as well as how this is impacting your children and your relationship with them. Maybe in this way we can work on our addiction together.
32. What’s the main reason why young people leave Facebook?
A. Mums like to post baby pictures on it.
B. More and more parents like to overshare.
C. The young people don’t like mum’s selfies.
D. The information on it is boring for them.
33. What can we infer from the text?
A. Instagram mums are living a bright life.
B. Young people are the most affected by technology.
C. Parents should set good examples for their children.
D. Only 40% of mothers are unwilling to encourage their children.
34. What’s the meaning of the underlined word in the last paragraph?
A. cute. B. intelligent. C. annoying. D. aggressive.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Parents Are Addicted to Phones Too.
B. Facebook Mum Generation Is Growing.
C. Young People Are Turning into Tech-zombies.
D. The Negative Effect of Parents’ Technology Addiction.

A letter of intent(意向书)is typically written by a student who is trying to introduce himself to a program, a school, or a business that provides an internship(实习). So how do you write a letter of intent? Here are the ways.
36 This is not a casual or friendly letter. It needs to look professional. Use a simple font(字体)such as Times New Roman or Arial.
Introduce yourself at the beginning of the letter. 37 For example, if you are writing to the basketball department of a college, it would be appropriate to mention that you are the captain of your high school basketball team.
Next, describe why you are writing the letter. Describe how you first learned about the school or the program, and how you became excited about it.
Now it’s time to state your qualifications. Tell the reader why he should consider you for the school or the program. This can be in paragraph form or a list of your accomplishments. 38 In the following paragraph, say something good about the school or the program. You can flatter(讨好)the reader. 39 You can say the school or the program is so appealing.
40 You don’t want to address the letter to “Department Head”, or to “Whom it May Concern”. Unless the letter is directly sent to the right person, it’s not likely to be read by that person. A quick phone call to the program or the place of the business can usually get you the information you need.

My father’s comb was jade green. I heard he bought it when he married Mum, which made the comb(梳子)two years older than I was. Every night, he would smile, hand me the comb and say, “Be a good girl and help Daddy clean it, OK?”
I was more than happy to do it. At age five this mundane task brought me such joy. I would excitedly turn the tap on, then brush the comb with a used toothbrush as hard as I could. Satisfied that I’d done a good job, I would proudly return the comb to Dad. He would smile at me and place the comb on top of his wallet.
About two years later, Dad left his sales job and started his own wholesale business. I started primary school. That was when things started to change. He didn’t come home as much as he used to—just a couple of times a week. And when he did come home, it was always late and I’d already be in bed. I started to get mad. I stopped waiting for him to come home, and stopped going downstairs to check on him.
Today, I’m no longer a kid. I’ve graduated from college and got a job. Dad’s business has got back on track. Things are better now. Yet the uncomfortable silence between Dad and me continued.

ACBBB ACCAB CBCAC ACCBA
A
Civil War Tour: The Battle of Franklin Bus Tour的游览时间为7小时,The Redneck Comedy Bus Tour的游览时间为早上2小时,下午90分钟,晚上大约为2小时,所以一共为5.5小时,所以答案选C。
由题干定位到首段send their deaf daughter to my school as first grader. 由上文可知,Katherine来到作者学校的原因便是:they would be moving here,即:Katherine全家将会搬家至作者学校所在地,即答案B。
She didn’t make a sound or use sign language, even when her parents prompted her.
A项文章未提及;B项原文是说not because of the performers’ techniques;C项正确,enjoyment与原文的happiness 是近义词,与原文意思一致;D项与第一段第三句的信息混淆。
根据倒数第二段the Tangshan Shadow Puppetry Troupe has been receiving more government support and provides viewers with more innovative and high-quality performances. A项 objective adj.
根据第二段第一句以及“They are the so-called “Facebook mum generation”, a growing group of parents that like to overshare and, in the process, are slowly pushing out young people who can’t bear to see another one of mum’s embarrassing selfies.”
由文章最后一句话“But before telling us to “put our phones away at the table” or even worse, pulling up statistics of how damaging social media can be for us, maybe lead by example and consider how much time you spend on the phone as well as how this is impacting your children and your relationship with them. Maybe in this way we can work on our addiction together.”
从句子中whether...or...
空后的“address, the right person”是原词复现。

One possible version:
Dear Olivia,
Thanks for your last letter. I’m writing to tell you something about labor practice activities in our school.
Varieties of labor practice activities are organized in all grades of the school. In addition to spring-cleaning in the school, students are frequently given chances to do some housework including cooking meals, sweeping floors as well as washing dishes at home. Besides, each class usually works as a group and undertakes different kinds of volunteering work in the community, ranging from sweeping trashes, watering flowers and trees to assisting elderly people. By participating in these activities, both in and out of school, not only have we experienced the importance of teamwork, but also developed a sense of responsibility.
I hope the information will be of great help to you. Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Two days before my birthday last year, Dad came home early. As usual, I helped him carry his bags into his study. When I turned to leave, he said, “Hey, would you like to help me clean my comb?” I looked at him a while, then took the comb and headed to the sink. Though I was reluctant to do that and also had some complaints in the heart, I brushed the comb carefully. After a while, I passed the clean comb back to Dad. He looked at it and smiled.
But this time, I noticed something different when I had a closer look at my father. My dad aged. He had wrinkles next to his eyes when he smiled. But his smile was still as heartwarming as before and it was the smile of a father who just wanted a good life for his family. Dad carefully placed his comb on top of his wallet. After so many years, he still organizes his personal items in the same meticulous way. I guess some things never change. Father’s love is like a mountain, thick and speechless.

Text 1
W: Jack, I wish your dad could get the heat back.
M: Yeah, Mom. My fingers will freeze if I take them out from under these blankets.
Text 2
M: Oh, Mom, how am I supposed to get to the kids?
W: I called your dad and he volunteered to drive them to our house.
Text 3
M: Sherry, I’m grateful to you for teaching me all I should know about flowers.
W: Don’t mention it. Let me tell you what you’ll need to do tonight.
Text 4
M: Hello, I need some flowers for my wife. Do you have a dozen red roses available?
W: Yes, we do. Red roses usually represent true love.
Text 5
M: What time do you want to come to lessons? They go on for three hours, and they started at 10:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
W: I wish I could come to the daytime lessons, but I can’t, so 6:00 p.m. please.
Text 6
W: Hello, Billy. Have you ever watched Peking Opera?
M: Oh, yes. I watched Farewell My Concubine once.
W: What did you think about the show?
M: Hmm. I love the style of singing, which is very impressive, and the costumes are very beautiful.
Oh, yes, the actors’ face painting was interesting.
W: In Peking Opera, the actors paint their faces with various colors and patterns to tell the character’s personality.
M: Really? What colors do they usually use?
W: Red, black, white, yellow, green and purple.
M: So interesting!
Text 7
W: Hello, are you going to Amsterdam, too?
M: Yes, actually I’m going to Paris first, and then to Berlin. I have a business conference to attend in the two cities, not for a holiday.
W: May I ask where you’re from?
M: I am from Madrid, Spain.
W: It’s the capital city of Spain, isn’t it? My dad has been there many times, but for me, only once, about four years ago. It was a nice city.
M: I am happy you liked it. By the way, are you from Japan?
W: No, I am from the country next to Japan. You know big pandas?
M: Oh, I see.
Text 8
M: Hi, Lily, I heard that you went skiing yesterday.
W: Yes, I did. At first, I hesitated because I had never done it before. But I thought everyone should try it at least once in her life.
M: That’s true. Was it difficult?
W: Yes, it certainly was. Although I skied with an instructor on the beginners’ hill, I found it very difficult. However hard I tried, I just couldn’t keep my balance.
M: Maybe that was partly because you were too nervous.
W: Yes, you’re right. But after I fell down several times, I began to get the hang of it.
M: It must have been a thrilling speeding down the mountain.
W: It surely was. When I could finally ski with ease, I was able to enjoy the beautiful scenery: fresh cool air and bright sunshine. That was something I had never experienced before.
M: Sounds interesting! I’d like to try it myself.
Text 9
M: Hello, and welcome to our program, “Working Abroad”. Our guest this evening is a Londoner, who lives and works in Italy. Her name is Susan Hill. Susan, welcome to the program. You live in Florence. How long have you been living there?
W: Since 1982. But when I went there in 1982, I planned to stay for only 6 months.
M: Why did you change your mind?
W: Well, soon after I arrived in Florence, I got a job with one of Italy’s top companies, Ferragamo.
So, I decided to stay.
M: How lucky! Do you still work for Ferragamo?
W: No. I left there in 1988. I’ve been a free designer since then. I’ve designed for some Italian companies as well as two American companies. And in the last five years, I’ve also been designing for the British company, Burberry.
M: What have you been designing for them?
W: Mostly handbags and sometimes shoes and leather jackets.
M: How’s your industry changed since 1982?
W: It’s become a lot more competitive because the quality of products from other countries has improved a lot. But Italian quality and design is still world-famous.
M: Well, thank you for talking to us, Susan.
