The Colossus of Rhodes, a giant(巨大的) bronze statue(雕像), was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Other ancient civilizations(文明) also built large statues, but the Colossus of Rhodes was one of the tallest. The Statue of Liberty, its modern counterpart(对应的事物), is only a little taller.
The Colossus of Rhodes was designed and built by the sculptor(雕塑家) Chares of Lindos. It showed the sun god Helios. The Colossus was completed twelve years later. It welcomed friends and warmed enemies as they came close to the island’s harbor(海港).
Unluckily, the statue stood for only 56 years. In 224 BC, a powerful earthquake hit Rhodes. The earthquake damaged the Colossus, and it fell to the ground in giant pieces. The Statue’s parts lay on the ground for hundreds of years and travelers came from all over to see these impressive ruins(废墟).

二、阅读判断
When he was nine years old, American boy Milo Cress had a question: How many plastic(塑料)straws(吸管)do Americans use every day?
He quickly learned there wasn’t a simple answer. The boy tried to work it out himself. Through lots of research, Cress found out that Americans use about 500 million straws every day. In hopes of reducing(减少;缩减)plastic waste, he founded(创建)the Be Straw Free project in 2011.
Cress started the project in his hometown—Burlington, Vermont. He asked a local restaurant to stop offering straws with every drink order. It was a simple change. However, it would save money. And by doing that the restaurant would cut down on its straw use by 50 percent.
For the years that followed, Cress tried to spread his project across the United States. More and more restaurants agreed to join. They stop providing the customer with a straw unless he or she asks for one. Last April, Seattle became the American city to completely ban(禁止).
Plastic pollution has been one of the most serious problems today. According to scientists, more than eight million tons of plastic end up in the ocean each year. Plastic straws are especially terrible. They make it easy for people to get comfortable with single-use plastics.
After his project became popular, Cress took his findings on the road. He has since spoken to tens of thousands of students around the world. He wants to encourage more people to say no to plastic straws.
“Focusing(聚焦)on straws is one simple step we all could take, ” Cress says. “And it makes me feel that I, could make a difference, too.”
根据短文内容,判断正(A)误(B)。

A problem is only a problem until there is a solution. We find solutions by thinking creatively. 16 In other words, we think outside the box. Sometimes, thinking outside the box solves not just one, but two problems.
Amsterdam is one of the most crowded cities in Europe. As a result, housing is very expensive, especially for students. 17 However, finding this type (类型) of apartments was almost impossible until recently.
While the colleges in Amsterdam were trying to solve the housing problem, thousands of shipping containers (集装箱) were lying quietly in ports (港口). 18 Yet they can’t recycle all of them because there are so many.
Back in Amsterdam, a company came up with an amazing idea. Why not reuse these shipping containers as student apartments? 19 They are all the same size and fit together perfectly. The steel is strong. Moreover, these containers are so widely available that they are quite cheap to buy. For all these reasons, they can be used to build apartments quickly and cheaply. Building began in 2005, hundreds of Amsterdam students had new homes.
When students first heard about this idea, they thought the container apartments would be small, noisy. 20 Each container apartment has a kitchen, a bedroom with a study area, and a bathroom. The apartments are warm and quiet. They even have a high-speed Internet connection. Living in a shipping container has become popular. Today 3, 000 Amsterdam students live in the container village.
A.Students need low-cost apartments.
B.The containers are great for building apartments.
C.We use our imagination and come up with creative ideas.
D.However, they were surprised when they saw them.
E.Steel companies recycle some of the old containers.

“Hi, Grandpa,” said Pablo, taking a seat across from his grandfather at the breakfast table. Pablo knew that his grandfather’s eyesight had been going downhill for the past year.
“Morning, Pablo,” said Grandpa. “Here (一口) of this.” Grandpa scooped up (捞起) a piece of omelet (煎蛋卷) and hot sauce (酱) from his plate and offered it to Pablo.

Grandpa laughed. “It keeps me young!” he said.
Pablo was surprised to see Grandpa walk over to the computer a few minutes later and flip (轻击) it on. “Do you need some help, Grandpa?” asked Pablo.

“Well, I’m going to go to a special Website where I can hear an audio clip (音频剪辑) of the news. I listen to the headlines and then choose a story I want to hear more about.” Pablo’s grandfather began typing (打字).
“How do you know where all the letters are?” asked Pablo.
“I’ve been typing for a long time,” answered Grandpa. “After 60 years of typing, I think I have the location (位置), I could use a Braille keyboard (盲文键盘) to guide me.”

“Losing my eyesight just made all my other senses sharper (尖锐的),” said Grandpa. “It sounds like a cliche, but it’s true.” He smiled at his grandson. “I’m happy to be here,” he added. “I can never get enough time with my grandkids.”
