Teaching objectives:
- Understand the history and development of English.
- Lead the students to enhance the diversity and richness of cultural connotation.
- Enhance the students’ cross-cultural awareness.
Evaluation objectives:
After this class the students should understand the history and development of English, the diversity and richness of cultural connotation and especially, they can develop the cross-cultural awareness.
Teaching key and difficult points:
- Understand the history and development of English.
- Write down a short passage about their embarrassing experience caused by the misunderstanding of the English idioms.

Teaching procedures:
Step1:Revision
- Fill in the blanks with the proper words.
(1)This activity is beneficial for children’s (创造力).
(2)The examples are (独一无二的) to this dictionary.
(3)As far as I know,their house is (在……对面) ours.
(4)They were getting along (相当地) well with each other.
(5)No one knows the (起源) of the custom.

Step5:Presenting ideas(Group work)
1.Ask the students to have a discussion in groups and do Activity 1 on Page 24.List creative ways to learn English.They can brainstorm and list as many ways as possible.
2.Choose the most creative idea and prepare a short presentation following the steps below.Use the expressions in the box to help you.

教学反思:
After this class the students can recognize the differences between American English and British English.And they can learn to ask for and give clarification. They should have the ability to write down a short story based on given pictures and importantly, they should from the awareness of cultural differences.
