If there is an empty lot (空地) in your neighborhood, what will you want to turn it into? Some US high school students, who study at Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio, turned such a lot into a place of hope.
The empty lot in their neighborhood was once poor and dirty. As a program for the school’s biohealth (生物健康) class, eight students decided to improve the lot. They wanted it to become a good place, and wished it could improve the health of people living near there.
After weeks of thinking and studying, the students made their program a success.
Now the lot is a different place. There is a wood walkway (小道). It lead to a purple bench (长椅). A few beautiful plants are already in the ground. There is also a blue hopscotch (跳房子游戏) board. Also, you can see a wall with words like “Love” and “Peace” and pictures on it.
The students painted the bench purple because it is a relaxing color. They think kids can go there to sit together, make friends and have fun.
The hopscotch board was created for a group of kids aged from 8 to 10 in the neighborhood. There was no place for kids to play, so they made it for them.

This week I tried two new restaurants—Michelle's and Anton's. They are both French(法国的)restaurants.
Michelle's is a small place with about twenty tables. The waiters and waitresses are very friendly, and the service is excellent. I ordered chicken with orange sauce along with rice and a salad. Then I had a chocolate cake and coffee. The chicken was delicious, but the cake was too dry. The meal cost about thirty dollars.
Anton's is a much bigger restaurant, and it was very crowded on that night. I waited twenty minutes for a table. Anton's is noisier than Michelle's, and the waiter was very slow with my meal. I ordered soup and a steak(牛排)with fried potatoes and vegetables. The soup wasn't very hot. The steak was OK, but the vegetables weren't very good. For dessert, I had icecream. The meal was really expensive—about fortyfive dollars.

Chinatown is the name of an area (地区) in the middle of London. It is a large Chinese community (社区) with a lot of Chinese restaurants, Chinese supermarkets and shops.
In the 1950s, it was a poor area. Everything was very cheap. At the same time, the world rice market became bad and thousands of farm workers in Hong Kong lost their jobs. They began going to London to look for work. They found jobs in the restaurants in this area.
These restaurant workers often worked 17 hours a day and had no time to learn English. As more Chinese arrived, more shops and businesses grew up. Women came to join their husbands and children came to join their fathers. The community grew, and Chinatown was born.
In the 1970s and 1980s, British-born Chinese started to have a better education (教育) and this brought economic success to the area. Many families moved out of Chinatown, and there was more space for businesses. Chinatown soon became a popular place for tourists.
Now everyone knows about London’s Chinatown. During the Chinese New Year, the streets are full of flags and thousands of Chinese go into the streets. Of all the things we eat and drink, water is the most important. Not many people understand this, but it is quite true. The human body (人体) can go without food for a long time, but two or three days without water usually make people dead.
Many people don’t understand how much water the human body needs to work well and many people do not drink enough, especially (尤其) in hot weather. Most people drink when they are thirsty, but they often need more water especially when they take exercises.

Now you know why I would go to Michelle's again, but not to Anton's.

For most time of the year, though, Londoners and tourists go there mainly for the food in the Chinese restaurants. The best restaurants are the ones where the Chinese eat.
