Alan Naiman was known for being very careful about how he spent his money. But even those closest to him had no knowledge of the fortune he quietly gathered and the last act he had planned.
Naiman died of cancer at age 63 last January. The man from the American state of Washington gave most of his money to groups that help the poor, sick, disabled and abandoned children.
He gave them $11 million. The large amount of his fortune shocked the groups that received his gifts and even his best friends. That is because Naiman had been known to repair his own shoes with duct tape. He had sought deals to buy food from grocery stores at closing time and taken friends out to lunch at low cost restaurants.
Naiman died unmarried and childless. He loved children but also was intensely private. He saved, invested and worked extra jobs to gather money. He rarely spent the money on himself after seeing how unfair life could be for children who suffer most.
Naiman was a former banker who worked for the past 20 years at the state Department of Social and Health Services. He earned $67,234 a year and also took on side jobs. Sometimes, he worked as many as three at a time. He saved and invested enough to make several millions of dollars. He also received millions more from his parents after they died.
He left $2.5 million to the Pediatric Interim Care Center in Washington. The center is a private organization that cares for babies born to mothers who abused drugs and children with drug dependency. The center used the money to pay off its mortgage(按揭) and buy a new vehicle to transport the children.
Naiman gave $900, 000 to the Treehouse, where children without parents can choose toys and necessities for free. Trechouse is using Naiman's money to expand its college and career support services statewide.
1.Why were Naiman's best friends shocked at his donation?
    A. He left nothing to his relatives.
    B. He was dishonest in his economic conditions.
    C. He received wealth from his parents secretly.
    D. He used to be very careful to spend money.
2.Naiman was greatly concerned about ________.
    A. his money              B. his career              C. children in trouble              D. life after retirement
3.How did Naiman's money benefit the Pediatric Interim Care Center?
    A. It improved its transport system.                     B. It offered more toys to children.
    C. It sent more children to college.                     D. It helped more women give up drugs.

Most of us lead unhealthy lives; we spend far too much sitting down. If in addition we are careless about our diets, our bodies soon become loose and fatty and our systems slow moving. There are some aspects (方面) of our unhealthy lives that we cannot avoid. I am thinking of such features of modern city life as pollution, noise, rushed meals and stress. But keeping fit is a way to reduce the effects of these evils. The usual suggestion to a person who is looking for a way to keep fit is to take up some sport or other. While it is true that every weekend you will find people playing football and hockey in the local park, they are outnumbered a hundred to one by the people who are simply watching them.
For those who do not particularly enjoy competitive sports—and it is especially difficult to do so if you are not good at them—there are such separate activities as cycling, walking, jogging and swimming. What often happens though is that you do them in such a leisurely way, so slowly, that it is doubtful if you are doing yourself much good, except for the fact that you have at least managed to get up out of your armchair.
Even after you have found a way for keeping in shape, through sport or gymnastics, you are still only half way to good health, because, according to the experts, you must also master the art of complete mental and physical relaxation. It has to do with deep breathing, emptying your mind of all thoughts, meditation, and so on. Yoga, as practiced in the West, is the most widely known and popular of the systems for achieving the necessary state of relaxation. It seems ironical (讽刺性的), though, that as our lives have improved in a material sense we have found it increasingly necessary to go back to forms of activity—physical effort on the one hand and relaxation on the other—which were the natural way of life of our forefathers.
(1)Pollution, noise and stress are examples of ________.
    A.causes of unfitness
B.bad features of living in cities
C.the things we can completely do away with
    D.unavoidable things in town

At a bright new building in Landover, Maryland, students are getting a crash course(速成课), in which they are learning how to spend, save and look after their money responsibly.
Tuesday marked the grand opening of the newest Junior Achievement Finance Park, where eighth-graders from Prince George's County schools will use tablet computers to practice personal finance skills they have learned in class. An international study last year clearly showed that more than 1 in 6 U. S. teens is unable to make simple choices about how to spend their money.
The center, a mini city of stores, was created by Prince George's County schools, Capital One Bank and Junior Achievement of Greater Washington. In fact the first Washington-area Finance Park opened in Fairfax County, Virginia, five years ago. Altogether there are 17 finance parks nationwide, and one is planned to open in Montgomery County, Maryland.

They put their skills to the test when they walk inside. Students are given a career, salary, debt and family situation, and then they are required to have to put together a monthly budget .
Budgeting can be tricky. Students need to figure out how much to spend on groceries, rent, transportation and even entertainment. They shop with virtual money, making a change in their budgets according to different situations they may go into.
When asked about the practice, LaChelle King, a teacher at Benjamin Tasker Middle School in Bowie, said the center was exciting and surprising for her students. One of the kids said," Now I know why my mom gets mad at me when I ask her to buy me things!"

Every boy and every girl expects their parents to give them more pocket money. 43.       One main purpose is to let kids learn how to manage their own money. The amount of money that parents give to their children to spend as they wish differs from family to family. Timing is another consideration. Some children get weekly pocket money. 44.

In order to encourage their children to do some housework, some parents give pocket money if the children help around the home. 46.      They believe helping at home is a norm part of family life.

Saving helps children understand that costly goals require sacrifice. Saving can also open the door to future saving and investing for children.

    C. Why do their parents just give them a certain amount?
    D. Some children are not good at managing their pocket money.

    VI.
The virtual world is full of opportunities to share with people around the world. It's also a place where nothing is    80    and there are no "take-backs." A lot of what you do and say online can still be found again even if you have    81    it, and it's often something that is easy for others to access.
Research shows that a high percentage of teens receive    82    messages and requests when they're online. These can be scary, strange, and even embarrassing. If you feel    83    by a stranger or a friend online, immediately tell an adult you can trust. It is never a good idea to    84   . Any response you make is not only likely to make things worse, and might result in you saying something you wish you hadn't.
If you are eager to let out angry comment on a message board or blog, it's a good idea to wait a few minutes,    85    , and remember that your comments may stay up long after your temper has cooled and you have perhaps changed your mind. You might mistakenly find yourself regulated on social networks and this could    86    mean, insulting, or abusive comments toward someone else. But later you may    87    all that you have done. We've all heard of cyber bullying  (网络欺凌), but most people think online bullying is something people do    88   . But sharing stuff or dropping random comments when we're not face to face with someone can    89    just as much, if not more. And it can damage how others see you if they find out.    90    , a good rule to remember is that if you wouldn't say it, show it, or do it in person, you probably shouldn't do it online either.
Chances are that you've already checked your "digital    91    " -- nearly half of all online users do. Try typing your screen name or email address into a search engine and see what comes up. That's one way to get a sense of what others see as your online identity. In general, if you have questions about the trail you're leaving online, don't be afraid to ask a trusted adult.    92    , you might know more about the online world than a lot of adults do, but they have more life experience, which is something that can often be of more help. Your online identity is    93    in much the same way as your real-life identity, except that when you're online you don't always get a chance to explain your tone or what you mean. Thinking before you post and following the same rules for    94    behavior online as you do offline can help you avoid leaving an online identity trail you may over time come to regret.

Many people take the idea of saving money very seriously. Back in 1924, in Italy, a group of people       (think) the inability to resist spending a major social problem. They had the idea of starting a day to remind people to put away some money for a rainy day. This is how World Saving Day, held on Oct 31st       (annual), was started, and it's still going strong in 2019.
Not surprisingly, a movement       (target) the poor was started. People in the underdeveloped world are more open        calls to be careful with money. But        idea of being thrifty (节俭)has also become popular among the rich. Take Mark Zuckerberg for example. The Facebook founder, one of the world's       (rich) people, doesn't spend very much money on himself.
Other people don't spend money because they don't like the culture of       (consume). This is connected to the view        we should make ourselves happy through the activities we take part in, rather than with what we buy.
But however we view money  moderate        (spend) is certainly a good idea when we are still too young to get a job. There is a British saying that offers some good advice in this situation: "Look after the pennies, and the pounds will look after       (they)."

Look after the pennies, and the pounds will look after themselves.“积少成多”,此处指代主语pounds,应使用反身代词。

结合句意可知,此处应是肯定形式,故can't改为can/ must/ should。
