The world is not only hungry, but it is also thirsty for water. This may seem strange to you, since nearly 70% of the earth’s surface is covered with water. But about 97% of that is sea water or salt water. Man can only drink and use the other 3% fresh water from rivers, lakes, underground and other sources. And we can not even use all of that. Even worse, some of it has been made dirty.
However, as things stand today, this fresh water is still enough for us. But our need for water is becoming larger and larger quickly, almost day by day. We should take steps to do with this problem now and in this way we can get away from a serious world-wide water shortage(缺少)later on.
We all have to learn how to stop wasting our valuable water. One of the first steps is to develop ways of reusing it. Today in most large cities, water is used only once and then sent out into a sewer system (下水道). From there it returns to sea or runs into underground places.

These days there are lot of possibilities to be always connected lo family and friends. Now that I have just moved lo France, this can be very convenient. 1 can ring my sister who lives in Los Angeles on Viber, or I can Skype my parents or friends back in England for a chat. However, sometimes the convenient and dependability of technology can be intrusive.
Even the most out-going people need some “down time" to calm down on their own and get relaxed. This is something that 1 consider necessary and healthy. In my heart, my favorite CD is the one called The Queen and the Dream. The singer of the CD is Chris Lee. I deeply like this CD because I love her and really like the music that has great lyrics and the singers who sing the words clearly. If you listen to this CD, you will find that all the songs are very wonderful and gentle. Also the song’s names are positively active, such as Loving, Happy Wake Up, Give Me Five and so on. In all, the CD is great indeed! That’s why I recommend it to you. I think everybody will be attracted by the CD if he/she listens to it! “How are you?” is a nice question.①It's_a_friendly_way_that_people_in_the_United_States_greet_each_other.But “How are you?” is also a very unusual question. It's a question that often doesn't need an answer. The person who asks “How are you?” hopes to hear the answer “Fine”,even if the person's friend isn't fine. The reason is that “How are you?” isn't really a question and “Fine” isn't really an answer. They are simply other ways of saying “Hello” or “Hi”.
Sometimes, people also don't say exactly what they mean. For example, when someone asks “Do you agree?”,the other person might think,“No,I disagree.I think you're wrong…” But it isn't very polite to disagree so strongly,so the other person might say “I'm not sure”.It's a nicer way to say that you don't agree with someone.
People also don't say exactly what they are thinking when they finish talking with other people. For example, many talks over the phone finish when one person says “I have to go now”.Often, the person who wants to hang up gives an excuse:“Someone's at the door.” “Something is burning on the stove.” The excuses might be real,or not.Perhaps the person who wants to hang up simply doesn't want to talk any more, but it isn't polite to say that.②借口更加礼貌,而且它也不会伤害他人。
Whether they are greeting each other, talking about an idea,or finishing a talk, people don't say exactly what they are thinking. It's an important way that people try to be nice to each other, and it's part of the game of language.

Being polite is very important.(1) If you are polite to others, they will be polite to you.
In English there are many words to show your politeness; the use of “sir” and “madam” is not an important one. These words are used far more rarely than we think. In Britain, it is unusual for someone in the street to say “Excuse me, sir.(2) Can you tell me the way to the station?” The people who use the word “sir” in this way are usually expecting some money for a service—a taxi or a waiter. For example, “That will be $12,sir.Thank you!”
The word “please” is used everywhere in Britain.(3) Many visitors don’t know when to use “please”. When they go into a cafe they say “A coffee.” or “I want a coffee.” or even “Can I have a coffee?”(That might be really alright in their own languages).However,(4) it seems that they are impolite! Just adding a simple “please” would make it better —“A coffee ,please.” or “I would like a coffee, please.” It is better and safer to always use “please”!
Let’s look at polite ways of asking questions. Instead of a direct question we often use “Can you” and “Could you” before we say what we want .Look at these examples, which are from a normal conversation at home between husband and wife: “Can you park your car over there, please?” “Could you move the table against the wall, please?”
“Could...?” is a little more polite than “Can...?”,but both questions contain the word “please”.
If you are not a native English speaker ,then to use “Can...?” and “Could...?”to express a request is wise. In fact, you can be even more polite: “Sorry, could you tell me the way to Oxford Street, please?” “Sorry, could you tell me your name again, please?” (5) it’s, with, the, word, request, very, common, to, start, a, “sorry”.
If you ask for help, try “I’m sorry to bother you, but could you help me, please?” You might say to a friend “Hey John, lend me $100,will you?” But you couldn’t say this to somebody you do not know well.

We spent a day in the country, picking some white and yellow wild flowers. With the car full of flowers we were going home. On our way back, my wife noticed a cupboard(橱柜)outside a furniture shop(家具商店). It was tall and narrow(窄的). “ Buy it,” my wife said at once. “We’ll carry it home on the roof rack(把它绑在车顶行李架上运回家). I’ve always wanted one like that.”
What could I do? Ten minutes later, I was£20 poorer; and the cupboard was tied on the roof rack(橱柜被绑在车顶行李架上李架上). It was six feet long and eighteen inches square(它有六英尺长和十八英寸见方), quite heavy too. I drove slowly. Other drivers seemed unusually polite that evening. The policemen even stopped traffic to let us go through first. Carrying furniture was a good idea.
After some time my wife said, “There’s a long line of cars behind us. Why don’t they overtake(超车), I wonder ?” In fact a police car did overtake. The police car stopped at our village church(村里的教堂). One of the officers came to me.
“Right, sir,” he said. “Do you need any more help?”
I was a bit puzzled(迷惑不解). “Thanks, officer,” I said. “You have been very kind. I live just on the road.”
He was staring(盯着) at our car, first at the flowers, then at the cupboard. “Well, well,” he said, laughing. “It’s a cupboard you’ve got there! We thought it was something else.”

An important part of learning something is making sure you plan your time and use it well. If you want to remember
things well, you need to review information you’ve learned. Try to follow the advice:
DO
DON’T
●Make a study timetable at least three weeks before your exams and follow time to relax and have fun.●Review little and often.
●While you’re studying, have short regular breaks. A short break every 45 minutes is good idea. Stand up and walk around— you will feel more awake.
●Try making a weekly plan showing what you do every day(school, travel, meals, etc). You might see where you’re wasting time that you could use to study or read.
●Study for hours every night a week before your exam! Studying for hours the night before will make you tired and your brain won’t work well.●Study for a long period of time without a break. You probably won’t remember information very well if you do this
