I did it! I just completed my first ultramarathon (超级马拉松). I’m feeling very tired, but I’m really proud of myself. I didn’t think I could do it. I’ve only been running long distances for three years. I’ve completed five normal marathons, but this ultramarathon was much harder than they were. This race was 140km and it took over two days. I was very tired after yesterday’s running, but I had to run for seven hours again today!
Well, I think the most important thing for me is to get the speed right. If I go too fast, I won’t have enough energy (精力) for the end of the race. If I go too slowly, all the other runners will leave me behind, and it feels like I’ll never catch up with them.
My family can’t understand why I like doing ultramarathons. I didn’t like sports in high school. But this running is different. It’s a challenge. I like pushing myself to do better and better.
And of course, the other good thing is that I’ve raised quite a lot of money for charity (慈善事业) with this ultramarathon. A big “thank you” to all my friends and family who agreed to give money to the Red Cross. I love you all, so much! Er, I’m sure I’ll do it again next year.

These days, girls of all ages wear miniskirts. Miniskirts make female feel free, young, and beautiful. But they were thought to be horrible and in bad taste only about fifty years ago.

Peter Owen has been making wigs (假发) since the 1980s. He has made wigs for the stars of more than seventy movies, including Tom Hanks inPhiladelphia, Johnny Depp in Sleepy Hollow, and Nicole Kidman in The Others. One of his biggest jobs so far has been designing the hair and make-up(化妆) for the three Lord of the Rings movies. He had just six weeks to design and make more than a hundred wigs, each one a different style, colour, shape and length.
The hair and make-up in a movie are just as important as the costurnes(戏装) or the sets. Over the years, Peter has made actors look older, younger, healthy and sick. For one movie he even made a female actor look like a man!“What people don’t realize about wigs is that we are not always making people more beautiful,” he says. “Often we are covering up beauty and making them look ordinary.”
All Peter’s wigs are hand-made using human hair, so they look as real as possible. This also makes them very expensive―between US$4,500 and US$12,500 each! He knows he’s done a good job when people don’t realize the star of the movie is wearing a wig. So he was pleased when one newspaper said that Nicole Kidman had dyed(染色) her hair dark brown for a movie. “It was a wig and no one knew that,” he says.

New York is the dream city for many fashion designers. Luckily, now I work here as a professional woman designer.
Some people think being a fashion designer is an exciting job. It's very fun,(1)__________ we also have to work hard. My everyday life is quite busy but meaningful.
Most of the time,I stay in my studio and start my day with a cup of coffee or tea. I read the latest fashion news, draw and revise sketches(草图),make patterns and contact dressers. My craziest experience was when I cut out 50 dresses in one week. Often,I stay up until midnight. But I enjoy it because I get to use my creativity.
To find(2)__________,I visit museums or galleries. There are so many in New York, including the famous Metropolitan Museum of Art. The idea behind some of my works called Opposite Side of My Brain came from a visit to a neurology(神经学)museum. This work was shown during New York Fashion Week last year.
New York has many surprises as well. Before I came here,I thought it was just a completely busy city. But later,I found it could be very inclusive(包容的). In the streets, you will see fashionable people. (3)But at the same time, you will see homeless beggars. Interestingly, some of the beggars used to be bankers, musicians or painters in the past. I have been here for 3 years, but I feel like it's just the beginning. I want to design more in this fashionable city.

Miniskirts were made popular by English maker Mary Quant in the 1960s, and soon became an important part of most girls’ wardrobes.

They were thought to be the fashion choice of bad girls and not allowed in business places.
As people’s mind changed in the 1980s, office ladies were finally able to wear miniskirts at work. So when you are wearing your miniskirts this summer, remember it is not just a fashion sign, but also a part of women’s liberation history.

96.What is Peter Owen’s job?
A.An actor B.A director
C.A wig maker D.A manager
97.How many wigs did Peter make for the three Lord of the Rings movies?
A.More than one hundred. B.Seventy.
C.Sixty. D.Three hundred.

A.They can make people more beautiful.
B.They can change people’s hair styles.
C.They can cover up beauty and make people look ordinary.
D.They can make people look younger.
99.Why are Peter’s wigs so expensive?
A.They are made in foreign countries.
B.Peter makes the best wigs.
C.They are only made for rich film makers.
D.They are hand-made using human hair.
100.Which statement is NOT TRUE about Peter?
A.Peter Owen has made wigs for lots of movies.
B.Designing and making the wigs for The Lord of the Rings was a huge job.
