    The Aral Sea
    The Aral Sea lies between Uzbekistan (t the suth) and Kazakhstan (t the nrth). Once the furth largest lake in the wrld, the Aral Sea is nw less than half f its riginal size. The Aral Sea is a terminal, r endrheic, sea (meaning n water flws ut f it). It is fed by the Syr Darya and the Amu Darya Rivers, but Sviet river diversins fr irrigatin made ver 40 years ag have starved the Aral Sea f water.In 2001, the Wrld Bank funded the cnstructin f an 8-mile dam t separate the Nrth and Suth Aral, and thereby save the smaller and less plluted Nrth Aral Sea. The Nrth Aral has been grwing since cmpletin f the Kk-Aral Dam in the summer f 2005. Repairs and updates t the inefficient Sviet-era canals have als played a rle in the rejuvenatin f the Nrth Aral.
    Understanding Ideas
    Macquarie Island lies in the Suth- west Pacific Ocean, halfway between Australia and Antarctica. Its native inhabitants encuntered challenges. Human interventin led t the ersin f the riginal habitat, cased chas and destryed the eclgy dramatically.
