Teaching steps: Step 1 Review (3mins) (1) Enjoy a song about days in a week and students will hear some words such as Monday, Tuesday and so on. (2)I will ask students to write the 7 days , and one student will write in the front of the classroom, and to find out whether he/she has done it correctly.
Step2.Lead-in(2mins) (1) I will show a picture of calendar. Students should look at it carefully and they will know today is Monday, June 4th. Then just look at 1a, there is another calendar, please fill in the first line and check the answers. (2) Another task in 1b. I will invite some students to read these words in 1b one by one and give them one minute to fill in the calendar, and check the answers. (3) In the end, I will draw a conclusion that Sunday, Saturday are weekends, Monday to Friday, all these words are weekdays.
Step 3 Presentation(5mins) After that, I will ask students if they can make sentences with words in the chart and then guide them to look at 1c. There is an example. Students work in pairs to read the conversation and try to make more conversations by themselves in 2 minutes ----What’s today? ----It’s Monday the 14th. I will give them 3 minutes to prepare and then invite 4 pairs to share their conversations.
Step 4 Listening(10mins) This listening task is very easy, so I will only play it twice. The first time they should finish 1c circle Yes or No. Then I will play it again, they should match the activities with the days. Before listening, I will tell students it is a conversation between Andy and Vince. And Andy is asking Vince to play tennis with him. After listening, I will let students know Vince is too busy, so Vince can’t play tennis with Andy .What a pity.
Step5 Group work(10mins) In this step, I will present two pictures of new movies and ask students “Do you want to watch movies?” Work in group of 6 and try to find out who can go to the movies with you. And each group , I will invite one student to give us a report. Students will have 5 minutes to finish this part. I will ask 2 students to front. There are some sentences that may help them. In our group, nobody wants to go to the movies with me. Because they are too busy. A has to …B…C…D…so I will go to the movies alone. ---Can you watch a movie with you? ---Sorry, I’m afraid not, I have to… Step6. Summary and Homework(2mins) In this step, I will guide students to summarize what we have learned in this class, so they will have a better understanding of this lesson. Homework: After class, students should go on to finish the report and make a schedule. Try to write it down, and besides they should preview the passage in 2a.
