Unit 2 This year we are training more carefully.

1. I am not going for lessons, but to play football. 我不去上课而是去踢足球。

【知识点1】 not...but...

意思是“不是......而是......”, 表示选择关系。在句中连接的是并列成分，本句中but后面省略了going。

☞ I don’t eat an apple but an orange. 我不是吃了一个苹果，二是吃了一个橘子。

【拓展】

not...but...连接主语时，谓语形式根据but后面的主语来确定单复数。

☞Not his parents but his aunt is going to take him to the zoo. 不是他的父母，而是他的姑姑打算带他去动物园。

2.  We all arrive as early as we can so that we have time to warm up. 我们都尽可能地早去。

【知识点1】so that

意思是“目的是，以便”，在句中引导目的状语从句，相当于in order that, 二者都可以和in order to do sth. 进行同义句转换。

☞ I get up early so that I won’t be late for school. = I get up early in order not to be late for school. 我早起的目的是上学不迟到。

【辨析】so that 与 so...that...

(1)  so that 引导目的状语从句，从句中常用情态动词can, may, might, could等；主从句连接紧凑，无逗号相隔。

☞I wore a red coat so that he could see me easily. 我穿了一件红色外套，以便他能很容易看见我。

(2)  so...that... 意思是“如此......以至于......”，引导结果状语从句。

☞Guilin is so beautiful that millions of visitors go there every year.

【知识点2】warm up

热身；做准备活动。

☞Let’s do some exercises to warm up a bit. 咱们先做做操热身一下吧。

3. We are training harder than usual because the other team beat us last year. 我们比平常训练得更加刻苦，因为另一支球队去年打败过我们。

【知识点1】train

①    不及物动词，（体育）训练，操练

☞He is training hard. 他正在刻苦训练。

②    及物动词，训练

☞They train elephants to do the farm work. 他们训练大象干农活。

③    可数名词，火车

☞I love travelling by train.

【知识点2】usual

形容词，通常的；平常的。反义词：unusual, 不寻常的。

①    as usual 跟往常一样。

②    Usually 副词，通常。反义词：unusually不寻常地

“Beijing, Toronto and Paris are the most important cities bidding for the Olympic Games of 2008,” said Richard W. Pound, the IOC’s first vice president(副主席).
