Teaching Aims:
1. Knowledge Objects:
1) new words:ant, inset
2) target language:
① I used to like painting pictures.
② I didn’t use to like tests.
③ I used to hate P.E. class.
2. Ability Objects:
1) To learn how to talk about what a person used to like or do by “used to” and improve students’ ability of listening and speaking.
2) To grasp and use “used to do sth.” in the declarative sentences and negative sentences.
- Moral Objects:
Try to be more hardworking.
Teaching Key Points
1) To learn how to talk about what a person used to like or do by “used to”
2) To improve students’ ability of listening and speaking.
Teaching Difficult Points
Enable students to talk about what you used to like and what you used to do.
Analysis on students
The students have learned to express their changes in appearance, personality and hobbies with “used to...”. They’re familiar with the sentence patterns“I used to... I didn’t use to... ” They are able to express their changes in school life.
Teaching Procedures
Ⅰ. Warming- up and revision
1. Daily greeting.
2. Look at the pictures. Ask the students questions about Paula and Billy to review 2b
and 2d.
What did Paula use to like, playing the piano, painting pictures or science class?
What other things did she use to like?
What did Billy use to like, reading, talking to girls or getting good grades?
What other things did he use to like?
Ⅱ. Lead in
Show some pictures, such as tests, hanging out, wearing a school uniform and
so on . Have the students guess.
What did I use to like? Can you guess?
I used to like hanging out.
What other things did I use to like?
Look, this is a spider. That is an ant. They are insects.
I used to like ants and other insects.
Ⅲ. Presentation
1. Ss look at the pictures in 1a. Try to understand the activities in the pictures.
Check the things they used to like .

____ music class ____ ants and other insects
2. Let some Ss talk about the activities they used to like very much.
Work on 1b:
- What other things did you use to like ? Let Ss try to write some sentences. Then
discuss with their partners.
e.g. I used to like painting pictures when I was a child.
Have students work individually. Move around the room, offering language
support and helping them with any words they want to use. Have a student write
sentences on the board.
- Ask some students to report their sentences. Then have students discuss them
with a partner.
Ⅳ. Listening
Work on 1c:
1. Tell Ss to read the sentences in 1c and try to understand the meaning of them.
2. Play the recording for the Ss. Ss just listen for the first time. Play the recording again and check the sentences Ss hear.
3. Check the answers:

1. Let Ss read the sentences in 1d first. Tell Ss to listen again and fill in the blanks with the right words.

- Ask and answer:
T: The boy used to play every day after school, but now he plays all the time. What
about you?
S1: I used to watch TV every day, but now I study all the time.
Ask more questions to help compare the students with the girl and the boy.
- Have the students write sentences about their changes.

3. Work in pairs. Compare yourself with your partner.
e.g. A: I used to be nervous about tests all the time, but now I don’ t worry about
tests. What about you?
B: Yes, me too. And I used to be afraid of making a speech in public.
- Let some pairs make a conversation before the class.
- Our family have changed too. Give an example of my families’ changes.
- Have the students write sentences about their family’s changes after class.
VI. Advice
- Look at the pictures and fill in the blanks.
- Give advice: You have more subjects to learn now. Try to be more hard-working.
