The Adulthd Ceremny in Ancient China In ancient China, the adulthd ceremny was the essential frm t shw a child has grwn up. Accrding t the Bk f Rites, males received a capping ceremny at 20, while a female received the hair-pinning ceremny at 15. Bth were hsted by the senir f the same family members accrding t the traditin.
The capping ceremny fr men meant ding the hair and wearing a cap. Usually it was held in a special place and the date was chsen by the capped persn himself.
At the end f the ceremny, the hnured guest wuld deliver a speech. The general idea f the speech is as fllws: frm nw n, yu are ging t wear adult clthes. Yu wuld behave like an adult, nt a child anymre. We wish yu a lng life and a successful career. Then the capped persn perfrmed a frmal bw and gt a new name.
The hair-pinning ceremny fr wmen referred t gathering wmen's hair int a knt (发馨） with a hairpin t hld it. The prcedures were almst the same as thse f the capping ceremny, with slight differences.
