Part I Grammar | 1. The teacher demonstrates reading and guides students to read sentences aloud. 2. Understand the concepts of condition, concession, result and way Adverbial clause, and help students understand these Adverbial clause through Exercise 1; Help students deepen their understanding of concepts through Exercise 2; Help students consolidate their knowledge points through exercises 3 and 4. 3. Understand the conditions, concessions, results and ways of the commonly used conjunctions of Adverbial clause. 1)条件状语从句 一般由 if、unless、on condition (that)...、as / so long as 等连词或词组引导。 注意:条件状语从句中用一般现在时表示一般将来时,用现在完成时表示将来完成时。 If you don’t hurry up, you’ll be late. 如果你不快点儿,就要迟到了。 We’ll go there unless it rains. 我们要去那里,除非下雨。(下雨的话我们就不去了。) I can tell you the truth on condition that you promise to keep a secret. 我可以告诉你真相,前提是你答应保守秘密。 You can take my car as / so long as you drive carefully. 只要你小心驾驶,你可以开我的车。 2)让步状语从句 让步状语从句常用 although / though、as、even though / even if、whatever / whichever / whenever / wherever / however、no matter what / which / when / where / how 等引导。 注意:as 表示让步时要用部分倒装结构;though 可用倒装,也可以不倒装;although 引导让步状语从句时不可以倒装。 Child as / though he is, he knows to help others. = Though / Although he is a child, he knows to help others. 他尽管还是个孩子,却懂得要帮助他人。 Successful as / though he is, he is not proud. 他尽管很成功,却一点也不骄傲。 We won’t give up even if we should fail ten times. 即使失败多次,我们也不会放弃。 No matter what / Whatever you do, I will support you. 无论你做什么,我都会支持你。 3)结果状语从句 结果状语从句一般由 so...that...、such...that...、so that 等引导。 注意:so...that... 与 such...that... 用法有区别,so 接形容词或副词,such 接名词或名词词组。 English is so useful that I am determined to learn it well. 英语如此有用,以至于我下决心要学好它。 He spoke for such a long time that people began to fall asleep. 他讲了那么长时间,以至于听众都要睡着了。 4)方式状语从句 方式状语从句常由 as if / as though、(just)as...so...、as / the way 引导。 As water is to fish, so air is to man. 空气对于人的重要性,正如水对于鱼一样(空气对于人类就像水对于鱼那样重要)。 Just as we sweep our rooms, so we should sweep backward ideas from our minds. 正如清扫房间一样,我们也应该摒除陈旧思想。 Please do it the way I have told you. 请按我说的去做。 Note: the meaning and usage of as if and as thought are the same. In the Adverbial clause introduced, the predicate mostly uses the Subjunctive mood to indicate the contrary to the fact, and sometimes also uses the declarative mood to indicate that the said situation is a fact or is more likely to be realized. For example: They completely ignore these facts as if (as though) they never existed. 他们完全忽略了这些事实,就仿佛它们不存在似的。(与事实相反,谓语用虚拟语气。) It looks as if the weather may pick up very soon. 看来天气很快就会好起来。(实现的可能性较大,谓语用陈述语气。 | |
Part II Pronunciation | 1. The teacher first demonstrates the stress and weak pronunciation of the article 'a', having students follow suit. Then, give two to three phrases or sentences containing 'a', and have students read each sentence twice. When reading the first time, a should be emphasized, and when reading the second time, it should be read weakly, allowing students to experience which reading method makes the sentence sound more coherent, fluent, and rhythmic. 2. The teacher provides more examples of stress and weak reading of articles and pronouns, allowing students to read aloud and appreciate the role of weak reading in reading sentences. 3. Have students observe the table above and collaborate to explore. Under the guidance of the teacher, students can summarize that articles and pronouns are often weakly pronounced in sentences. In addition, try to summarize the rules of weak reading: 1) Weak reading form/ ə/ Mainly. 2) If a word is pronounced long, its weak form usually becomes the corresponding short sound. | |
