(2022届北京市清华大学中学生标准学术能力诊断性测试高三上学期10月诊断性测试)As an eco-minimalist, Su Yige has maintained an environmentally friendly and sustainable lifestyle for the past three years while studying in Canada. She takes her own bag when she goes grocery shopping and uses second-hand items as often as possible. She avoids almost all paper-related products unless she has to use a public toilet while away from home.
Diligence and thrift are time-honored traditional Chinese virtues. Su’s family is a good example of this, according to the native of Weihai, Shandong Province. Although they have little formal “green” knowledge, her parents lead a very environmentally friendly life.
For example, the family has used the same hair dryer for more than a decade, and Su remembers many of her mother’s clothes from as far back as kindergarten.“As long as something can still be used, my mother will not replace it with a new item,” she said.
“I frequently asked my father to bring the plastic bag back home after dumping our waste in the trash bin. He was unhappy, and argued that instead of making that request, I should go downstairs to dump the waste myself,” she said. In another move, her father criticized her for doing too much shopping online. Later, they both made steps toward becoming better environmentalists. Her father brings the bag back for reuse and she has only bought two pieces of clothing online in the past six months.
Back in Canada, Su is looking forward to finding a job for sustainable development in China after she graduates as a computer science major in the summer.

(河北省衡水市2022届高三下学期二模考试)Officer Jonathan Smith, 30, was called to Bond Lake near Lewiston, New York, after receiving reports of a little dog that had fallen in about 50 yards from the shore. In this heart-in-mouth footage(镜头) captured by a fellow officer’s bodycam(随身摄像机), the brave police officer threw off some equipment before dashing out onto the ice, without any caution for his own safety.
The owner had been walking the 10-month-old dog around the lake on January 5 when Kona spotted a distant flock of geese landing on the water and ran towards them. Horrified, Kona’s owner watched as the dog fell into the freezing water at the edge of the ice.
In an email to Lewiston Police Department, the owner wrote:“Although she is a strong swimmer, there was zero chance of her getting back out onto the ice and she began to panic and tire quickly.”
The witness nearby called 911 right away, and 15 minutes later, Officer Smith and two other officers from the Police Department arrived. Without hesitation or rescue equipment, the officer removed his uniform and gun belt and ran over the ice towards the exhausted Kona. When he got close enough to her, Officer Smith grabbed the dog and pulled her from the water so she was able to run back over the ice to her owner.

(2022·茂名市高三级第二次综合测试)Many have had the same thought as Shannon St.Onge when looking at the approach of snow on a weather forecast—that they have time to finish their jobs. As the director of finance at the First Nations University of Canada, she had to drive 25 kilometers from her home to the city of Regina to attend an important meeting.
As she was leaving, the winter snow began to fall. Taking a dirt road for better traction(牵引) on her tires, she quickly became lost, with no ability to see the edge of the road from a rolled-down window. After a while she stopped and called 911.
“The operator took my information and told me to wait out the storm as my tank was full and I was warm. I waited almost 14 hours and nobody has called me yet to check in,” she wrote on a social platform.
“Would the gas tank last until morning? What if I was hit by another vehicle? What if I didn’t make it home at all?” St.Onge wondered.
Determined to ensure the safest end, she went out in the storm and discovered her location on a road sign, and then found a neighbourhood online group for the area she was passing through—warning others of her plight through an electronic map pin.
That was when 80-year-old Andre Bouvier Sr., a retired rescuer, got a call about St.Onge’s situation. He went out to find her, on foot, since he couldn’t manage to start his tractor.
On the way he found three other stranded(被困) vehicles. He walked the quarter mile there and back, and led the helpless cars one by one to his home. Bouvier let the survivors sleep at his house, where they ate and laughed, and departed the next morning after he had cleaned the driveway.
9.Why did St. Onge take a dirt road?
A.She was familiar with it.
B.She could refuel on the road.
C.She took the dirt road to save time.
D.She thought dirt road could increase traction.
10.What did the operator advise St.Onge to do?
A.Wait out the storm.
B.Find a warm place.
C.Ask Bouvier for help.
D.Write her condition in a Facebook post.
11.What does the underlined word “plight” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A.Wrong turn.
B.Poor sense of direction.
C.Difficult situation.
D.Bad weather.
12.Which of the following can best describe Bouvier?
A.Patient and gifted.
B.Brave and selfless.

Ⅱ.七选五阅读
(东莞市2022届高三上学期期末考试)We’re faced with so many decisions that it’s impossible to make a perfect choice every time. But there are many ways to improve our chances—and one particularly effective technique is critical thinking. There are many different ways of approaching critical thinking. 1 .
●Develop your question. 2 . For example, if you’re deciding whether to try out the newest diet, your reasons for doing so may be defeated by other factors. But what is important is to find what you’re looking for and decide whether the try really suits your needs.
●Gather your information. There’s lots of it out there, so having a clear idea of your question will help you determine what’s relevant. Information gathering helps you weigh different options. 3 .
● 4 . This is something you do by asking critical questions. Facing a decision, ask yourself,“What concepts are at work?”“What assumptions exist?”“Is my interpretation of the information logically sound?”
●Explore other points of view. 5 . However, exploring others’ viewpoints is good for you to understand the decision from different angles. This will allow you to explore alternatives, evaluate your own choices, and ultimately make better choices.
A.Consider the decision
B.Apply the information
C.In other words, know what you desire for
D.You may disagree with everything that others say
E.It moves you closer to a decision that meets your goal
F.Every day, a sea of decisions are possible to lie before us
