4.Guide students to talk about how to make a hometown dish for a potluck dinner in the United States.

Read the quote on the Opening Page and discuss the following questions.

1.    What can you see in the picture?

T: Class,Let’s see the picture on the Opening Page.What can you see from it?

Ss: It is a street with many Chinese restaurants.

T:Where do you think it is?Why?

Ss: I think it is Chinatown in the United States. Because there are both Chinese and English signs.

T: Class, what do you think of the sentence?

S1:It means the world is beautiful when its people are diverse.

Activity 1 Lead-in

1.    Talk about the American food that students are familiar with.

T: Class,what kind of American food have you ever eaten?

S1: Hamburgers in McDonald’s.

S2: Hamburgers in KFC and potato chips.

T: Can you name some ingredients of hamburger?

Ss: Bread;fried meat; cheese; tomato; lettuce; potatoes.

2.Look at the photos of American food and match them with their names.(课本P26,Activity 1)

Match the photos with the following descriptions of American food and then try to match them with their names.In addition,guess which countries’ cuisine influenced the food’s invention.

1.Small pieces of thin crisp chips(酥脆薄片)served with beans.

2.A crisp hollow cookie containing a piece of paper with a short message on it.

B:Sounds so easy! You could make it at your friend’s house.That way it will be fresh.
