    2019新人教高中英语必修一Unit5 Discovering Useful Structures教案Teaching aims:1.Enable students to have a good understanding of the basic usages of relative adverbs such as when,where,why in attributive clauses;understand the structure in/on/at which in attributive clauses is equivalent to where/when.2.Master the basic usages of relative adverbs of attributive clauses in the real situation through self-study and practice.3.Describe favourite things using the proper relative adverbs of attributive clauses. Teaching key points:1.Help students to appreciate the function of relative adverbs of attributive clauses in a sentence. 2.Enable students to master the usage of relative adverbs of attributive clauses flexibly. Teaching difficult points:Use attributive clauses to describe things. Teaching procedures:Step I  Lead-inLook at these sentences and underline the restrictive relative clauses.Q:What kind of information does each clause communicate.   It was a time when people were divided geographically. Information:a time for an event.小结1  先行词(即被修饰的名词)在从句中作时间状语时,连接词使用when   Emperor Qinshihuang united the seven major states into one unified country where the Chinese writing system began to develop in one direction.Information:a location for an event.小结2  先行词(即被修饰的名词)在从句中作地点状语时,连接词使用where3.  There are many reasons why people learn a foreign language.Information:a reason for an action.小结3  先行词(即被修饰的名词)在从句中作原因状语时,连接词使用why4. These were animal bones and shells on which symbols were carved by ancient Chinese people.Information:a location for an action.小结4  先行词指物且在从句中作状语时,连接词可以用介词+which来替换关系副词,其中介词的选择和先行词的搭配有关。Step   Self-directed studyIn this class we will learn to grasp the basic usages of relative adverbs such as when, where, why in attributive clauses;understand the structure in/on/at+which in attributive clauses is equivalent to where/when and put them into practice. First, it's self-study time. Please observe the example sentences in the sheet and try to summarize their usages by referring to the dictionary or reference books. Make a mark where you can't understand. Then,10 minutes later,we'll see who is the best self-learner. Please begin now.Step   Presentation and special attention(10 minutes later)Time is up.Let's see how you learn attributive clauses one by one.定语从句是在句子中作定语,修饰名词或代词的从句,又称为形容词性从句。这种从句由关系代词或关系副词引导,并作句子成分。定语从句三步解体法:一、先找出主句;二、确定先行词;三、判断先行词在从句中作的成分。 定语从句的引导词 关系代词who(主语、宾语)  whom(宾语)that (主语、宾语) whose(定语)Which(主语、宾语) 关系副词Where(地点状语)When(时间状语)Why(原因状语)注:先行词在从句中作状语时,连接词有时可以用介词+which/whom来替换关系副词。Activity 1  Fill in the table to complete each phrase with a restrictive relative clause. Then use the phrases to make complete sentences.1.the daywhenthe earthquake happened/I started learning my second foreign language I was on holiday the day when the earthquake happened.I will always remember the day when I started learning my second foreign language.2.The placewhereMy friend lives/ I met the movie star She works near the place where my friend lives. Let me show you the place where I met the movie star. 3.The reasonwhyI didnt get a pay-rise/ I want to learn Spanish I don't know the reason why I didn't get a pay-rise. The reason why I want to learn Spanish is to travel to Peru one day. 4.The place/time介词+whichI found Grandmas glasses/ I first met you on the ship This is the cupboard in which I found Grandma's glasses. I will never forget the day on which I first met you on the ship.注意:并非先行词是表示时间、地点和原因的词时都用whenwherewhy,若先行词在定语从句中不作状语,而作主语或宾语,就必须用whichthat。比较:We often think of the days when we worked together in the countryside. when在定语从句中作时间状语,相当于on the daysWe often think of the days which we spent together in the countryside.which在定语从句中作宾语Activity 2  Fill in the blanks with the correct relative pronouns or adverbs. Add a preposition where necessary. (Page 96 Using Structures Exercise 2)1.Japanese uses three writing systems,including kanji________originated(起源)in China.2.
